Happy Sunday Players! Welcome to Day #3 of the GamersUnitedGG 30 Day Video Game Challenge! Yesterday we visited our Favorite Video Game Worlds and a few places made my list. Want to know where I’d live? Click here to find out! You can join us and read the official rules by clicking here! Power up Players for Day 3 of the 30 Day Video Game challenge!
Who is your favorite video game sidekick?
Sidekicks to me are great additions to any story or video game. Holding a similar place in my heart as villains. Notable sidekicks like Daffy Duck, Tom from Tom & Jerry and Donald Duck have always been my favorites. But what about video game sidekicks?
Diddy Kong is a sidekick that made a name for himself. Following behind his famous Dad Donkey Kong, Diddy was inserted into games where he is the secondary character. Currently, my friend Emily is playing Donkey Kong Country on the SNES Classic. Diddy has climbed the ranks and started starring in his own titles, most notably, Diddy Kong Racing. While Diddy is a great candidate, he is not my favorite video game sidekick.
Miles “ Tails” Prower is my favorite video game sidekick of all time. Tails is amazing, he can fly, he’s kind and he’s super smart. My first encounter with Tails happened in Sonic 2 where you could play with the two-tailed fox. I really loved having Tails as the sidekick and longed to play with him alone. Low and behold Sonic and Tails allowed me to do just that with playing with Tails, Sonic or both characters. A good sidekick has the main protagonists back, provides assistance when needed and can always be called upon to help. Tails has definitely gotten Sonic out of sticky situations and his willingness to stay by his friend’s side, earns him the spot as my favorite video game sidekick!
Day 4: What was the toughest boss that you had to face?
Who are your favorite video game sidekicks? What sidekicks do you like in general? Let’s talk video game sidekicks!
Happy Wednesday! It’s been a great (& busy) month to start off the year and our GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition comes to a close today. We have had 3 awesome participants building their own video game and I think that the responses were fantastic in each instance. At the end of Week 2 we had a tie for 1st place between Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie and Daniel from Home Button. Flying Colours has been a great participant and mathematically locked in the 3rd Place prize. Let’s analyze each of the 3 participant’s video games and award the final points to determine the winner.
Flying Colours was the first participant and took a different path than the other 2. Colours placed their responses in the comments of each prompt and came up with a video game that I think is a superhero adventure. The main character was tall, dark and handsome with awesome abilities like flying (I see what you did there) and mind reading. In week 2 we meet a villain that is obsessed with power and control.
Pix1001 really piqued my interest the first week with the main character Osha that I really liked. Osha is a nerdy girl that wants to save the planet, not just it’s inhabitants, but the environment as well. Pix provided a very detailed description of the main character and the description was vivid enough to paint a picture in my head which was awesome! In week 2 Osha’s nemesis and the main villain of the gain was a political mastermind called Mira. Mira is an extremely intelligent villain that did not always start out as an evil mastermind. Mira seems to have become jaded with the way people in the world are and is planning to destroy everything and use the presious resources of the planet to escape to another world. A great villain is relatable and has a story that draws you in and feel as if Mira exemplifies those characteristics. Going into the final week I was questioning how battling would work but Pix delivered! She answered that in her week 3 response with the party battle system. We find out that the game takes place on a planet called Gaia and that you are playing a JRPG game. The game will launch as a Nintendo Switch Exclusive.
To Pix:“You set distinct goals and it made sense. I loved the dialogue inclusion in your game. Some of the best games have sassy one liners or undercutting remarks that make the game smirk a little. Having your characters make colorful remarks is almost synonmous with Nintendo. I fell in love with your main character and most of your game mesh elements mesh together very well.”
Daniel took yet another approach from the other 2 Players by starting his posts as a dossier or FBI type rundown. I immediately envisioned the voice from unsolved mysteries in the opening package to the game running down the file on Jin Usagi while the typewriter sound plays in the back. In week 1 we are privy to the confidential file of the truth tellers who we find out later are actually the villains. Jin is a man with considerable skill and was apart of the title organization known as Full Arsenal or F.A. In week 2 we get a glimpse of the organization and some of their members from a Truthers perspective. It’s a Suicide Squad type of feel where the government or people in power put together a band of rogues and mercenariess to form a special task team. But of course, being self aware the team realized that they could go out on their own and didn’t need bosses. In the final week Full Arsenal is unveiled at E3 2020 and the trailers along with the developers talk about how the game will function. It’s an open world, choice driven game that will launch on PS4 and Xbox One.
To Daniel: ” Your premise and your methods of delivering your game each week was exciting and a great read. Your character, plot and villains are all outstanding and I can see the game vividly in my head. I really like the choice driven aspect and the option to kill your enemy and take pieces of their armor or spare them and possibly turn them to your side. This element would be cool in many games today.”
All 3 Participants did an amazing job with their video games and thank you for participating. Here’s a reminder of the prizes:
1st Place will receive a large Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!

Happy Sunday Players! November was a great month for me in a personal sense, but let’s see what has happened on the blog!
Surprisingly, we published 24 posts in the month of November! I was participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge all month, so I was not as active as I have been due to the challenge. Yet somehow between myself and our contributors we still had a decent number of posts!
We have 1064 Views, 668 visitors and 316 likes!
Complete NaNoWriMo – Since we are in the month of November, I have been working on the NaNoWriMo challenge and my personal goal is to complete it!
1 Steam Game Review I have a few steam games that I have yet to play so I look to play them and write up a review this month (Thank you Thero159 for Offworld Trading Company and Amello!).
Post at least 3 times per week – The blog activity may not be as frequent as previous months because I’m focusing on NaNoWriMo, but I will try to have at least 3 posts per week for the month of November.
The only achievement that we earned last month was the one for Completing NaNoWriMo! The novel is about 51,000 words (I’ve been editing it) and it is a Young Adult, period drama series.
Complete a Steam Game Review!
Set up the GamesUnitedGG YouTube Channel!
Launch a community Guest Blog Challenge!
Set up the GamersUnitedGG Podcast
Those are my goals for December! As you can see it’s a lot of prep work for our anniversary in January and the launching of extensions to the blog!
Here are our top posts from the month of November!
Happy Sunday Novas! Our good friend IgnitedMoth posted an update from the NaNoWriMo challenge for her first week. Check out her progress and say hi! November 1st – 1788
November 2nd – 2846
November 3rd – 1393
November 4th – 2194
November 5th –2107
November 6th – 2446
November 7th – 182
November 8th – 1766
November 9th – 1453
November 10th – 2457
November 11th – 1255
Total Count 19986 (includes 99 words left over from last night).
I’m really proud that I have been making so much progress on the novel. I’m trying to stay motivated and dedicated as this will be the first novel that I have completed if I meet my goal. This post will include another excerpt from the novel. If you would like to read my first excerpt, please click here!
La Roja City, Mythonia April 15th, 1523
“I am sorry to have to bring you this news Adrian, but you are now the head of the House of Star.”
The crown of his father was too heavy for the young prince and the burden of a country now lay at his feet. Adrian was a rambunctious boy who lived life as he saw fit. The day I had to tell him that he and his little sister Princess Lara were the last 2 remaining heirs of House Star, was the saddest day of my life. I could see his joy and happiness slipping away, but immediately I had to make sure that he was aware of the magnitude of this honor and on how quickly we had to move to install him as ruler.
There’s no time for Adrian to grieve. His uncle is starting a petition throughout Mythonia to be installed himself, as king. It’s no secret that his uncle Bastion has been an envious brother to the deceased king. It’s no surprise that Bastion is reaching for the throne before the king’s body’s even cold yet. We have to make sure that the council and kingdom views Adrian as the heir apparent and a strong leader to place on the throne.
I have convinced the council to hold off on the coronation of Adrian until he has found a suitable bride and married her. We need a strong marriage and hope for an heir to really solidify Adrian’s position. My prince is very “Fluent” in the language of love. His courtly love games and flirtations are known throughout the kingdom and it has damaged his image as he is now expected to turn into a respectable citizen and ruler. We have to get him married quickly and before anyone realizes that there is another candidate in contention for the throne.
I’ve received numerous messages from kingdoms offering up their princesses to Adrian. He is handsome, rugged and has a zest for life so I’m in no way concerned about the suitors not being attracted and faithful. But we need supporters. We need a country that brings wealth, a strong lineage and a great reputation to bring validity to Adrian’s rule. When I received a letter saying that the Princess Ariana of Tamlonia had come of age, I knew that we had a perfect match. Tamlonia and the House of Tamlin is one of prestige and respect. Their trade routes are some of the most lucrative and the princess is the most eligible bride on the market. I contacted the ambassadors of Tamlonia and proposed the betrothal of Adrian and Ariana. 2 Young, beautiful rulers that will most definitely create heirs and unite the 2 kingdoms.
–Sterling, Prince Adrian’s Advisor
What do you think so far? I’m really proud of my work and I know that the editing process will be the hardest part, but I’m optimistic! Are you currently tackling the NaNoWriMo challenge? If so, how’s it going? Are you currently working on any projects? Let’s talk writing!

Here’s my thoughts on the posts submitted:
I loved how Chris described the scenery of the mansion. He exhibited video game tendencies by allowing the reader to see the choices that were before him. I really felt like I was playing the game alongside of Chris and it was a big plus! We’ve all been there choosing the wrong path like in Crash Bandicoot and having to go back to the fork in the road. This post brought back nostalgic memories for sure! And is it me or does it remind your of a Goosebumps Choose Your Own path book?
Ellen’s comedic response had me laughing from the start. I like how she incorporated other gaming classic characters in her response. Her response reminds me of myself when playing games, if I hear something creepy I’ll try to not look at it. Because if you make eye contact it will eat you right?
Incognita’s post was really funny. It starts out very professional and sounds like a Memoir of sorts. She references the type of puzzle games where you have to find the key to get inside which was all too familiar. She exhibited typical video game behaviors like listening for footsteps and looking for clues. I could envision the game and the steps that were taken.
Each response was great and made me feel like I was playing the game so great job everyone!
The winner from the first week’s post is…. They will be choosing the theme for Next Week’s post! The Winner is… Drum roll please…
