Today’s topic is…

The party is still going strong and you find yourself conveniently positioned under the mistletoe. Which video game character would you call over for a cheeky kiss?

This is a no brainer for me. Everyone knows of the iconic WWE 2K18 game right? I would call over the cover Superstar, none other than my husband SETH FREAKIN’ ROLLINS!

I mean of course he would be the character that I would call over, but since that was a bit of a cheap answer, I will also provide another.

Scorpion from Mortal Kombat would be a great choice. I have always been a Scorpion fan to a bit of a mild obsession with the character back in my youth. Here’s how it would go down:

Mario has invited all of the video game characters over to the Mushroom Kingdom and Peach’s Castle for his annual Holiday Party! This time, chosen gamers were on the guest list and yours truly received an E-vite!  mario  This was it, my chance to finally meet some of my heroes (and Villains :P) from my childhood and let’s face it adulthood as well.  I’ve decided on wearing a nice little gamer dress to show appreciation for the Mushroom Kingdom and hopefully score cool kid points from my host.

gamer dress
Snazzy right?

Right on schedule a warp pipe arrived at 6:00pm on the dot and it was time for me to take my leave of the world for 1 night. I quickly hopped in the pipe and was off to the party.

warp pipe

The warp pipe dropped my gently at the front door of Peach’s Royal Castle. I wonder if her husband Bowser will drop by and “‘kidnap” her for the night lol. This definitely seems like a night where the 2 lovers can escape unnoticed. I reached out and pressed the Star shaped doorbell and was greeted by Toad and Yoshi! Instantly I gave him a hug and presented my invitation to the festivities. Toad bowed to me and escorted me inside.

The guest list was top notch! I was greeted by characters like Sonic, Cayde-6 from Destiny 2, Vegeta and Trunks and many more characters that I have come to know and love. There’s was a great spread of food on the table so I strutted on over and grabbed a few cookies. Right as I was getting ready to pour a glass of eggnog, I caught a glimpse of Scorpion in the corner. He was staring at me… I think. Frantically a looked behind me because surely he was looking at someone else. But no one was around me. I flashed scorpion a flirty smile and took a sip of the eggnog, ughhh Wario spiked it, not bad though. Before I could make a move I hear the echo of “Get Over Here” and scorpion pulls me close.

Lakitu, always the stalker… eww well journalist,  lakitu flies over us and a string of mistletoe hovers. I shrug my shoulders and kiss scorpion on the cheek. The rest of the night I mingled with the absolute best in gaming, but one thing crossed my mind. I didn’t see Peach or Bowser the entire night. Guess it was a Happy Holiday for all parties involved!

12 Days of Christmas Day 3: Santa’s Video Game Helper!

Happy Holidays Players! We are celebrating 12 days of Christmas with our blogging buddies over at Later Levels! This month we will all post answers to the questions in a very gaming Christmas Collaboration on select days! The rules are simple, post your response to the questions designated for each day and share the Holiday fun with the blog-o-sphere! Make sure to check out posts from our friends participating as well! Want to join in on the fun and spread your holiday cheer? Check out the rules here!

Today’s question is…

You receive a call from Santa, as the elves desperately need a hand in the workshop getting all the toys ready. Which video game character would you recruit to help out?

After mulling it over in my hand I have decided to select ClapTrap from borderlands! Claptrap is a robot that assists your character in your missions. Claptrap is funny and handy as he has just about everything one would need in a workshop. Looking for a tool? Claptrap’s got it! Need schematics to assemble a toy? Claptrap’s got it!

Borderlands Wiki

Claptrap is a CL4P-TP general purpose robot manufactured by Hyperion. It has been programmed with an over enthusiastic personality, and brags frequently, yet also expresses severe loneliness and cowardice.

Thinking about it further,  I have also decided to select Miles “Tails” Prower from the Sonic the Hedgehog Series! Oh did you forget  that Tails is a whiz at building? Sure he focuses more on electronics but what kids do you know who are NOT asking for electronics for the holidays? Tails is very smart and will be able to assist the elves in putting together and fixing all sorts of modern items. He can work in tandem with Claptrap by building the electronics (tablets, gaming consoles, Nintendo DS) from the schematics that Claptrap has provided. I know that with either of these video game helpers, Santa and the elves will be able to make their deliveries with all of the toys on the list! Moreover, having both Tails and Claptrap is a recipe for success and the elves will be able to have a well deserved cup of hot cocoa before Santa leaves!

December’s Question of The Month!

Power up Players! Thank you for reading my extremely delayed response to the Question of the Month hosted by our friends over at Later Levels! Each month other game bloggers and myself answer the question posed by Later Levels or the community. It’s a great way to get involved and I’m very thankful to Kim for letting me participate! I was working on the NaNoWriMo challenge in November, so along with less blog posts, i was unable to submit my answers for the poll. I still enjoyed the question so I will post my opinion and answer here and then you all can visit the Later Levels blog to read and vote for your favorite answer!

This month’s question was submitted by : Nathan!

Which video game character would make the best Santa?

The first character that popped into my head instinctively wa Sonic the hedgehog. After a careful analysis of my Sonic gaming history, I’ve realized that he would make a fantastic Saint Nick! sonic santa

Comparison : Sonic Versus Santa

In most Sonic games, especially the early generation games, your goal was to speed through maps or “Zones” to stop the plans of the evil Dr. Robotnik or Eggman! In order for Sonic to accomplish this task, he had to find and collect the Chaos Emeralds so that he could use the powers of the united Emeralds to defeat his enemy and save whatever animals or characters that were under siege. Sonic also collected rings that allowed him to gain strength. Bam, that’s Sonic! As the games progressed, Sonic was joined by friends who would help him defeat his enemies as well.   From this analysis, I can already see great qualities that would make Sonice an excellent Santa!

  • Sonic is a master in searching for Chaos Emeralds! This savvy makes Sonic an excellent gift giver! He is able to search all of the best deals whether he’s at the mall or shopping online to find the gifts that everyone wants. You want an exclusive toy, if you were nice all year, Sonic will find it!
  • Sonic is super fast and as far as I have seen a tank of endurance and stamina. Sonic can definitely take on the monumental task of delivering the presents all over the world in one night. He doesn’t need magic, all he needs are a few chilli dogs and plenty of water. SonicSantaClaus
  • Sonic’s entourage of friends would definitely assist in building the slay with Tails, wrapping the presents with Amy, Stuffing the Stockings with Cream and even picking the coolest toys with Knuckles. Sonic’s friends are definitely the “Elves” and “Toyshop workers” that help Santa fulfill the wishes of all nice children!

Those are my reasons for picking Sonic the Hedgehog as the best video game character that would work well as Santa! What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my answer? Which video game character would you choose and why? Make sure to check out the poll and vote for your favorite entry by clicking Here! Let’s talk!

Favorite Video Game Duos!

Happy Friday Novas and thank you for reading today’s post! A duo is a team of 2 that, when working together, creates a fantastic tandem! Duos work well individual, but when they team up the results are impeccable and that’s what today’s post will highlight; Video game duos! I’ve compiled the responses from our blogging buddies and we’ve come up with our favorite gaming duos!

Baird and Cole Train (Gears of War)-

The duo of Baird and Cole Train in the Gears of War franchise is one of my favorite all time duos in video game! Baird is the sarcastic engineer while Cole Train is the charismatic brawn of the Gears. When they are paired together on 2 Player missions, the banter between the 2 is one for the ages! Cole Train points out the obvious while Baird uses his cynical views on the depleting humanity to try and lighten the mood. This duo works well because you have the classic mix of Brains and Brute that makes a winning combination every time!   tumblr_ops5myZgHb1u7skpbo2_500  What’s even more fantastic *Spoiler Alert, Spoiler Alert* is that both characters manage to survive all of the series of the franchise, something must be going well for the 2!

Now let’s here from some of our friends. Guys, who do you think makes a great video game duo and why?

The Last GuardianKim from Later Levels takes an interesting approach to the question!

In The Last Guardian, you take on the role of a young boy who awakens in a strange cave with Trico. Your initial attempts at helping this mistreated creature get you slammed at a wall and knocked unconscious; but slowly he starts to become used to your presence, even accepting some food and letting you pull bloody spears from his body.

Over time the protagonists learn more about themselves and each other, even finding a way to communicate, and their relationship is one built on trust. When Trico can’t move because he’s scared of the stained-glass eyes dotted around the environment, it’s up to you to smash the artifacts to pieces. When you’re trapped on the other side of a canyon, Trico mewls at you to give you the confidence to make the jump and catches you before you plummet.

The bond depicted in The Last Guardian is one of the most believable bonds between a human and animal within a video game, and this is what makes the boy and the creature such a great duo. Everybody needs a Trico by their side.

Sam & MaxKevin from The Mental Attic touches on a classic theme.

A dynamic duo from the LucasArts archive that is often forgotten is Sam & Max, Freelance Police, despite that thanks to Telltale Games, they had a successful outing well past the demise of LucasArts itself, with three seasons of adventure games that you can only describe as zany, if not completely and utterly bonkers.
Sam & Max have been through everything together and they keep each other in check. Without Sam’s steady hand, the psychotic white rabbitty thing Max would surely destroy the world on a whim, but what is truly interesting and which the Telltale games showed was that without the murderous lagomorph, Sam becomes a brooding violent detective, crossing the line from hardboiled to truly vicious.
The Freelance Police are both functional(ish) but together they’re stronger, making up for each other’s weaknesses and keeping the insanity levels to tolerable levels, though nothing can ever contain the power of Max’s sarcasm.
We all could use a Sam in our lives to keep us in check and make sure we don’t do something profoundly stupid, but you know what? I could do with a little buddy who just cracked me

Banjo & KazooieLuke from Hundstrasse regards a duo that can trust each other.

I may have been late to the party having only taken the reins of these two for the first time earlier this year, but I can see why the bear and bird known collectively as Banjo Kazooie are well regarded as one of the best duos gaming has to offer. They form a single combined entity; Banjo merrily bouncing along with Kazooie safely tucked in his backpack ready to pop his legs out at the seams and role reverse at a moment’s notice.  kazooie  There is an unparalleled trust as Banjo carelessly drops on to his back in the knowledge that Kazooie will bear the burden and catapult them into the air. It’s an excellent demonstration of creative character design that shows why Rare was such a powerhouse developer at the time.

Ratchet & ClankChris from Overthinker Y has some fun with a classic pairing.

A Lombax in a world with no more Lombaxes. A war mech who just isn’t cut out for war. A ton of planets needing to be saved from diabolical evil. It’s a combination for the ages, and the pair of Ratchet and Clank have to be one of the archetypical odd couples of gaming, having now saved the galaxy in more than ten adventures across fifteen years. Clank’s your logical but occasionally gigglesnarky robot who helps Ratchet traverse the world with his jetpack, while Ratchet just wants to use lots of very big and very ridiculous guns to blow up lots of stuff. It’s perfect!

Notable Classic Duos

  • Mario & Luigi
  • Sonic & Tails
  • Shrek & Donkey

There you have it, some of our favorite video game duos! Who are some of your classic video game duos and why? Let’s talk video games!

30 Day Challenge Video Game edition: Day 7!

Happy Wednesday Novas! Thank you for stopping by on our 30 day blogging challenge journey! I’m switching up today’s post just a tad, so let’s see what the topic is!
Couples! The twist that I’m bringing to today’s post will be to blog about my favorite video game “Duos” instead of couples. There’s been historic duos that we all know and love. The best duos to me in video games are the ones that compliment each other well. You know the duos that work so well in tandem that any task can be completed.  Those duos! I’m going to skip common duos like Sonic and Tails or Mario and Luigi because we know they’re awesome!

Day 7 – Favorite game couple

My first duo that I love is Banjo and Kazooie from well Banjo and Kazooie! Playing Banjo and Kazooie and Banjo To lie on Nintendo 64 was awesome growing up. I was able to beat all of the levels myself and I love the combination or Banjo’ s strength matches with Kazooie’ s agility and flight.

Cole Train and Baird! There’s no secret on my blog that I’m a hugeeee Gears of War fan. From the GOW franchises story mode a great friendship has developed between Cole and Baird. Baird is the intelligent weapons expert while Cole Train is the Brawn. He runs straight into every battle like “Leeroyyyyyy Jenkinsssss.” Cole was a pro football player before E Day so his speed, strength and agility is unmatched. I love the snarky comments each make within the franchise and their snippets when killing locusts. Cole and Baird are the unsung heroes of Gears of War to me. Vulgar language inbound on these clips. GOW has obscene language and violence.

Johnny Gat and Pierce from Saints Row are a pretty awesome duo. Gat is the leader, mentor and total awesome character of the Saints whole Pierce is the comic relief! I love doing missions with Pierce and Gat because driving in a car and listening to them bicker is the best. I’m between the missions you can listen to full conversation and interactions between both characters. For that fact Shaundi and Pierce are a great duo as well.

My last duo will be the annoying creeper and skeleton duo in Minecraft. The skeletons take all of your attention by shooting you with bows while the creepers sneak up behind you! I would rather fight any other combination of 2 mins than creepers and skellies.

What do you think of the duos I’ve highlighted today? Which duos are your favorites? Let’s talk video game duos!

30 Day Challenge Gamers Edition: Day 5

Happy Monday Novas! I hope your week is starting off well. We are continuing with the 30 day blogging challenge for Gamers and today’s topic had me scratching my head trying to come up with an answer. After a few hours in deep thought, I’ve finally come up with the answer! Let’s see who I picked!

Day 5 – Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)

Today’s topic wants me to answer the question on which video game character I feel I am most like. I’m taking it back to Nintendo; Mario to be exact. Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself and see if anyone can guess the Mario character I picked. I like to say that I am a jokester, always trying to make jokes and keep everyone in a good mood. I like playing pranks on my friends and family. I’m pretty friendly and my most used emoji is the tongue sticking out one :p.  I also daydream and float off into the space of my own mind quite often. Back in middle school I jumped out of my art class everyday in the hopes of scaring my friend Kelly! Which character do I feel I am most like? Drum roll please….

BOO! No, no, no Boo! I feel like I am most like the free spirited, trickster Boo from Mario! Boo has been one of my favorite Mario characters since the Mario Party franchise began. Remember there was a spot on the map in which you could “Hire” Boo to steal coins or stars from the other players. While I do not fancy myself a thief, I did use Boo’s services when I felt the situation was justified. I would make my way to Boo’s shop and ask him to retrieve items (which I always referred to as taking it to Boo) from my brother and friends. Boo also can disappear and reappear. I’d like to think that trait refers to my ability to adapt and blend in with situations (I was really reaching on that one lol).

I’d like to answer the alternate part of the question as well! If I could be character, i’d be Princess Daisy in Mario!Princess Daisy was amazing! She wasn’t as much drama as Peach and she seemed more fun and free spirited. Also, who wouldn’t want to be a princess? i first started using Daisy in Mario Double Dash and Mario golf. When Yoshi wasn’t available, I had to pick an alternate character. Daisy was my pick!

Thank you for reading today’s post! Which video game character do you feel you are most like? Who would you want to be? Let’s talk video game characters! Have a fantastic day and we will see you for tomorrow’s post!

Day 29 – A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving.
Day 30 – Your favorite game of all time.

Day 1 Question: Your 1st Video Game:

My Very First Video Game that I can remember has to be either Tetris, Dr. Mario or Duck Hunt. Tetris is an amazing game of stacking different shaped blocks as they fall on the screen. The goal is to not let your blocks reach the top of your screen (come on you all remember Tetris, Right?). tetris

Dr. Mario was a classic game of matching the colors on the pills to get rid of them. Similar to Tetris, your goal is to not let your falling pills stack up and reach the top of the screen. Now that I think about it, this game was pretty creepy. Dr. Mario is basically an illegal pharmacist mixing medications lol. Dr_mario_screenshot

Duck Hunt was a game for Super Nintendo in which you, well you shoot ducks. It came with this gnarly orange and gray gun that you would point and shoot at the screen. Tons of fun with Duck Hunt.

Day 2 Question: Your Favorite Character.

It’s funny, the Day 2 question I just answered this morning on the Shameful Narcissist’s blog lol. My favorite video game character of all time would have to be Yoshi! Yoshi was the man! He was green, could turn people into eggs and a great maneuver-er on Mario Kart! I would always select Yoshi if he hadn’t been taken and wreak havoc!!!! I remember playing Mario Party 4 on Gamecube with my brother and his friends. I was the champion always winning in Castaways and the basketball mini games.   Yoshi-o Every game I would pick Yoshi, my brother would select Toad, his friend would pick Waluigi and my friend would pick Peach. Great times. Some other characters I love are the Arbitor from Halo (He’s AWESOME!) and Baird or Cole Train from Gears of War!  I guess it would also depend on the game. If we’re playing street fight Chun-Li is bae and in Mortal Kombat Scorpion or Sonya Blade are my go to’s. Well Cinder was pretty awesome as well. The best thing about being a gamer is that you don’t have to choose your favorites! You can play with all of the characters and still have fun.

Thank you for checking out this second post today. What are your 1st games and favorite characters? Let’s talk gaming!

Ultimate TKO Thursday: Nasty Ninjas Scorpion Vs Master Shredder!

Happy Thursday all! Thank you for tuning in to this week’s Ultimate TKO Thursday battle where we pit 2 opponents from different series, comics, video games, etc against each other in an all out battle to see who will reign supreme. This week I’ve taken the request of Drew @ TheTattooedBookGeek’s from last week’s battle (Final Freeze: Subzero vs Mr. Freeze) request to see Scorpion in a TKO Battle! Scorpion is an experienced marital artist and a pennacle of the Mortal Kombat franchise. After mulling over the options, I have come to the conclusion that a great match up for him will be none other than Master Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Let’s jump into a quick synopsis of their backgrounds and get into the battle!

Master Shredder or Oroku Saki is one of the main villains in TMNT. He started as a trusted friend of Master Splinter and delve into his own practice of starting a ninja army know as the Foot Clan. Some of Shredders defining features are his size, speed, strength, intelligence and mastery of Ninjitsu.

Scorpion or Hanzo Hasashi is a ninja warrior who appears in the Mortal Kombat series. Most notably known for his Kunai Spear that shoots from his hands, Scorpion is also a master in Ninjitsu and fights using fire and flames. He is a resurrected ninja that battles his demons which each fight. He is quick, agile and deadly when he becomes enraged.

“When are you finally going to rid Earth of those pesky Turtles so that I can rule?” krang Krang says. The clank of Shredder’s boots against the marbled floor of the Technodrome is worse than the sound of nails against a chalkboard. “It’s hard to think that you can rule anything with the amount of times that I’ve had to save you personally, dear friend.” Shredder responds. He stops a mere 10 feet away from the brain known as Krang. Shredder stands firm with his piercing gaze directed towards the alien. “How dare you speak to me with such insolence, you should know your place.” Krang responds. Shredder’s gaze turns deadly, his fist are now tightened into a ball with the veins sprouting out from both sides. “I’ve had enough…” he starts as he leaps into the air head on towards his once ally, right fist extended with maximum strength towards his target. The last thing Shredder sees is the smirk on Krangs face as he steps aside and opens a dimensional portal. Before long Shredder awakens in a dark, mysterious land. He dusts himself off and rises to find another ninja a few feet away dressed in scorpion3 yellow and black. Before he could ask where he was the assailant strikes an impressive martial arts pose, “Uhhuh” Shredder says. “I guess this is the dimension that Krang was mentioning last week, this is OutWorld.”

Scorpion’s stance looks very familiar to Shredder, it’s very similar to his own fighting style of Ninjitsu, yet it is tweaked somehow. “I’ll have you know that I am a master of Ninjitsu.” Shredder says as he copies the stance. He notices that Scorpion’s eyes are bright white. The sky rings with the drums of the thunder cascading around the 2 ninjas, it’s almost as if Raiden had played the symphony of the skies for this occasion. Scorpion sizes up his opponent, who is standing with blades lined along his forearms and top of his helmet. Scorpion finally breaks his stance and walks to the left of his opponent in a circular motion. Shredder takes off his purple cape to reveal the tight ninja suit that he is wearing. It is flexible enough to allow Shredder to use his full range of motion while fighting. Shredder counters by walking to the right of Scorpion, both men checking to see who will make the first move. After about 2 and a half rotations Scorpion stops and bows to his opponent bring his hands back to the Shaolin Fist stance. Shredder bows back and launches into battle with quick strikes of his fist.

Scorpion matches Shredder’s aggressive strikes and tries to counter with his own barrage of punches. Both opponents are true masters of martial arts and therefore are able to quickly dodge and counter attack each other instantly. Finally a blow hits it’s target! Shredder use the blades on his forearm to pierce the cloth of Scorpion’s Shirt. Scorpion seemingly increasing in rage shoves back Shredder and drops to the ground to initiate a quick leg sweep. The taller Shredder falls to to the floor. Shredder stands up and releases his Steel Claws . Shredder makes his way closer to Scorpion but after a few steps he finds himself dodging a speared rope coming from Scorpion’s palm. The next round of the spear has Shredder swiping at the Spear with his Steel Claws.

Scorpion throws fireballs at is opponent barely scorching the wrist of Shredder. As Shredder leaps into the air to attack Scorpion counters with a backflip kick straight into the jaw of Shredder. As Shredder stumbles he falls to one knee and and lunges with his claws at Scorpion piercing his chest. The 2 masters fall back into the quick firing hand to hand combat. Scorpion spins and misses his punch but lands a kick to the shin. Shredder grabs Scorpions right leg and pulls him to the ground, following up with quick punches to his face. Scorpion spits a hot, burning acid on Master Shredder to make him flinch and fall over. Scorpion kick flips up and starts stomping scorp-kick on Shredder before hitting 3 backflips away from his opponent. Shredder flips up to his feet and wipes the blood from his jaw. “You are a worthy opponent, but I’m afraid that this duel has come to an end.” His Steel Claws are ready to end the fight. He takes a step towards Scorpion and feels a tingle in his right arm. The Kunai Spear from Scorpion’s palm had caught him. Shredder yells in fury, “Get Over Here!!!!” Scorpion says and pulls Shredder close for the fatality.

The blood starts to pour out of his body and light up the floor of Outworld. Yet, it looks too orange to be blood. It’s not, it’s the lava flowing out of Scorpions body. When he pulled Shredder towards him with the Kunai, he never took into account that Shredder’s left Steel Claw was left uninhibited. Shredder had used his body as a diversion, he was caught by the spear to throw his opponent off guard. The Steel Claw slashed open the belly of the beast and sent him spiraling to the ground. Shredder, bruised and bloodied, bows to his opponent. “Now to take care of that Krang!” He says before taking 3 steps and also tumbling to the ground.

What did you think of this week’s TKO battle? Did you agree with the outcome? Who would you like to see featured in our weekly brawl? Let’s talk TKO! Thank you for reading!
