A Sense of Community and February Update!

Happy Wednesday Gamers, Geeks and Friends! I didn’t have anything scheduled to post today but recent events and a few blog posts that I have read from my peers made an impression on me. Firstly I will do a quick February Update!

  • In February We have made it to 80+ Followers so thank you everyone!
  • 33 Posts were Published on the blog
  • WE had 388 Visitors
  • We had 338 Likes and 238 Comments

Personal Goals:

  • I purchased 3 Video Games. (Halo Wars 2, Thief and Game of Thrones)
  • Purchased all the tickets I wanted for Wrestlemania! (Wrestlemania, Raw, Smackdown and WWE Axxess VIP for Seth Rollins 🙂 )
  • I have been writing at least 5 times a week! (Now I need to start working on my book lol)
  • Met amazing bloggers!  thumbs-up

Now I wanted to say how incredible it is to find other bloggers’ posts and opinions. I find myself wanting to rush to my laptop to read other blog posts or communicate with some of the bloggers that I have met. I feel a great sense of community here, as I am an extrovert I’m very aware that it’s easier for me to communicate with someone standing in front of me or over a computer screen.

But the reality is that you never know who is sitting across the screen from you typing their thoughts and opinions. It can be a next door neighbor, a grandmother that doesn’t have much family around, a gamer that revels in online gaming, a sarcastic kid who doesn’t have many friends, a socialite that can’t tell their friends about the newest technology craze for fear of rejection and so on. We are all made up of completely different personalities yet we find ourselves drawn to others blogs and posts. Why? Myself I love the “Individual.” Someone who is doing their own concept, creating their own genre, staying true to what they believe. We may not always agree, but we can respect each other. I’m drawn to creative individuals, bloggers that make me feel a certain way or feel anything at all. Bloggers who are seeking to provide a service, express their thoughts, vent, provide the raw and real emotions of their soul and lay it out on the table for anyone who’s hungry to come and eat.

The point of this rant I guess it is, is to say that I love and respect all of the bloggers that I have had a chance to interact with. I feel like we are a community and that people can care and value others opinions. I fancy myself a humanist, I want us all to succeed and to keep the people by our side that have cheered us on the entire way. Some of you I can call “friend.” What you write resonate with me and I enjoy the banter we may have. From the people that I have met to the others that I will meet in the future, I appreciate you and I am glad that we are taking this crazy journey called “blogging” as far as each of us personally can. mlp-wheels  Let’s ride this thing until the wheels fall off with the wind in our hair, the Pepsi in our hand, the beats of our favorite song playing as loud as we dare and with the friends that make this life feel a little less lonely.

Thank you and have a fantastic March!

Game Tutorials: Yay or Nay!

Happy Wednesday Gamers, Geeks and Friends! I am taking today to play some video games and I have re-downloaded Magic Duels on Xbox One. Since I have already played the game before I really don’t need to play the tutorial, yet I feel as though I should because I am a little rusty. This prompted me to write today’s post (as Wednesday is an unscheduled day for me 🙂 ) and I wanted to post the question to Gamers Worldwide: Do you play game tutorials?

When I first buy a game let’s say a shooter classic like the Call of Duty franchise I NEVER play the tutorial! Maybe it’s because I figure I know how to point shoot and toss grenades (as the button configuration of these elements never change in the franchise), yet if I play a strategy game or even a RPG Tutorials are a MUST (against my inherent nature to just jump in the deep in and figure it out lol). So is it the game type that compels me to play the tutorial or not? Am I simply too impulsive to play the tutorials often?

I want to say that the game type is seldom relevant because I have started playing Civilization 6 civilization-districts.png and skipped right past the Tutorial straight into a game. Yes, I have played Civilization before but this was my first time in PC (I played Civilization Revolution for Xbox 360). There are some games where you cannot skip the tutorial, built in “How To’s” at the beginning of a game. Those I would love to just skip past but I cannot, take for instance the Dark Souls games. In Dark Souls III you have to play through the tutorial to finally get to the actually game.

Don’t get me me wrong, tutorials can bring understanding to a game and we really should be playing through them ,but I do not. I figure everything I am going to learn will come about some way during the game-play. Some tutorials really annoy me like the Minecraft Tutorial. It’s a really fun game and I love to play, but when I first started and played the tutorial, I was like “What is this? I’m just going to punch tress all day?” When you really delve into a game, for me that’s where the love and respect comes in. Tutorials really don’t give me anything other than controls (which I can find in the Options menu). Am I crazy lol?

That’s pretty much my short rant for today, tell me what your thoughts are in playing tutorials for a game. Are you for a tutorial or not really? Which games have you played the tutorials for? Which games have the best tutorials? Let’s Talk Video Games!

Neat Blog Award

Happy Wednesday Gamers and Friends! Today’s surprise post (as I do not normally have a post set for Wednesdays) was made possible by the awesome IgnitedMoth <— Make sure to give her blog a read and follow, she’s awesome! I was nominated for the Neat Blog Award and I couldn’t be happier. real-neat-blog-award This is my 2nd community award nomination in my first month of blogging and I am so thankful for any and everyone who reads my content. I have really taken a liking to reading blogs and creating my own original content for everyone to see. It’s kind of a therapeutic release from the stresses of life in general.

Gamers & friends, your mission (should you choose to accept it 🙂 ) is to:

  • Thank and link the person who nominated you.
  • Answer the seven questions your nominator has provided.
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers and create 7 questions for them

It’s time for me to answer my 7 hot seat questions from IgnitedMoth!

1.) What is your favorite memory of 2016? My favorite memory of 2016 was visiting a long time friend from Xbox. Our birthdays are in the same week of April so we have finally decided to meet in person. I took a road trip up to Illinois (which was the worst idea lol ) and stayed with my friend Kira. We had a blast! I actually decided to fly home because spending 36 hours traveling on a bus versus 2 hours on a plane was a significantly better option.

2.) If you could make a living in any profession (your absolute dream job) what would it be? I would want to start a Gamer Bar! A place where gamers can come play in tournaments, play all sorts of video games, eat, drink and network with new people. I would love to open up a Gamer Bar!

3.) Have you ever met anyone famous? Yes I have. I live in Orlando, Florida so we see celebrities here all the time. In 2012 for the NBA All Star Game  Weekend I met a few basketball players but my favorite was Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers. I got to talk to him (for like 5 seconds) and he autographed my basketball and picture. It was awesome!

4.) If you could travel to any one place in the world right now where would it be? Italy! I have always wanted to visit Italy. I enjoy art, writing, culture oh and pasta (can’t forget pasta!) I love how Italy has a lunch hour (which is really like 3 hours) and everything is done at a leisurely paced. I love the US but sometimes I feel like we rush everything and I feel like it would be peaceful and calm in Italy. If only I knew how to draw (well more than stick figures) I would definitely find one of those city river-bends and just draw :).

5.) Who is your favorite author? I haven’t read may books recently but my favorite author has to be Russell Andrews. I have read all of his books in a particular series. Icarus, Gideon, Aphrodite, Midas and Hades. Russell Pleaseeeeee make another book in this series, they’re awesome!

6.) What is your favorite mythical creature? A dragon or unicorn would be the obvious answer, however, I quite enjoy the Phoenix! Phoenix travel and live for years mingling with royalty or the humble creatures of the forest. Phoenix are respected and keen. They die but are reborn from their ashes and that’s a moral you can take with you throughout life. If you get knock down, become reborn and try it all over again.

He’s so Pretty lol

What do you look most forward to in 2017? Right now I am most looking forward to Wrestlemania in April. I already have my tickets for the event, Raw and Smackdown. The last thing I need to get is my WWE Axxess tickets to see my husband  Seth Rollins! (Let’s all marvel in his beauty for a moment:) )

In the spirit of the award, it’s time for my nominees (Drum Roll Please!)….mlp

  • The Brunette Bookworm Blog– A great book review blog featuring reviews, book hauls and other fascinating pieces of work!

Hidden Treasures 1: iZombie

Hiya! Gamers and Friends.

Have you ever discovered something, a show, video game or book that was so awesome and you found yourself asking “Why are more people not into this?” As I scroll through reviews and blogs I have noticed that it is a trending theme and I am ready to bring those underground treasures to the forefront! Each week I will submit a post about a “Hidden Treasure” that in my opinion has been overlooked and should be receiving more popularity. This week I will present my case for a pretty cool spin on a zombie show; iZombie. So here me out on this and don’t worry, no spoilers!

iZombie is a series, loosely based on a comic, about a woman named Liv. Simple enough right? You’re typical Jane Doe. Liv is completing her residency at a hospital and is well on the road to becoming a doctor(Insert compliments here, beautiful, intelligent and living a perfect life). One night (the pilot episode of course) things take a turn and Liv is turned into a zombie. Now let’s take a guess at the preferred cuisine of a Zombie? You’re guessed it, Brains! Liv has to feed in order to survive so she alters her career path and starts working at a place where she can satisfy her appetite and not be found out; a Morgue! Working here Liv is able to safely sustain herself by feeding on the brains of murder victims. This is where things become even more intriguing with this series as a new perspective on zombies will be introduced. Liv begins to inherit attributes as well as memories of the murder victims for a period of time

Did I grab your attention yet? Well now you will have to watch the series to know more and see what happens next!

The story line and acting in my opinion is top notch and more people should be watching! Yet I know less than a handful of people who have even dared to watch episode 1. I’m very impressed with this new twist on zombies and I love a great mystery series. Don’t worry there’s plenty of action and the story will follow more than Liv’s secret. iZombie’s first 2 seasons can be found on Netflix.

If you are watching or have watched iZombie, what are your thoughts? Also, what are some “Hidden Treasures” that you know of and want to tell people about? Feel free to leave a comment below.

Hold on to Your Heads!

Netflix Series of the Week- Medici: Masters of Florence

Hiya gamers, geeks and friends! Ever wanted to find a new Netflix binge worthy show to watch? Of course, you have! The purpose of this weekly blog post will be to view and review Netflix made series and provide my opinion on whether it is “Binge Worthy.” I will start off selecting some of the top recommendations from my personal Netflix queue however, I will be more than happy to take suggestions from the readers! If you have a series that you don’t want to get invested in until you have heard someone’s opinion, simply comment on the weekly post and I WILL watch and provide insight. This week’s post will be from a great period piece, Medici: Masters of Florence.

Once of the most influential families in Italy from the 13th century on would be the Medici family. In that time, Italy was pretty much divided in to factions more than as a whole. Florence is where the Medici family came into “power” and ruled the city through their intellect and let’s be honest, their money. The Medici’s were bankers that brokered deals to control trade and even the Pope’s shipments. With the amount of money the Medici’s procured, the same amount of influence and status followed. The interesting fact about this family and their rule was that the Medici’s alone did not have a crown or royal blood (through the family line they have bought their way into royalty). As we know, empires and dynasties are more commonly referred to Houses of Nobility and Royalty, yet the story of the Medici Family does not start from these enviable positions of status.

The series follows the life of Cosimo Medici and his brother Lorenzo. Cosimo is an artist, he indulges in beauty, art and the aesthetics while his brother Lorenzo is more of a loose cannon. Their father is getting set to pass the reigns of the Medici Bank (largest bank in Florence) over to one of his son’s. Though neither of the 2 particularly care for the banking life, Lorenzo and Cosimo compete for their father’s blessing. The series starts off with a mix of emotions and flashbacks through the 2 brothers lives. During the series you will notice little nuisances that will alert you to the “Flashback” happening such as the longer hair of the characters. Cosimo and Lorenzo must keep the family name and banking business from falling to the likes of politically corrupt characters, riots and religion. It’s a fantastic series even if you’re not into the whole period drama phase (as I most certainly am J). Surprisingly, the series will provide you with an ample amount of action (Plus watching the expressions on some of the characters faces when the wool is pulled is priceless) and more dramatic circumstances.

I guess here I should talk about the timeline and how true to the original story (Yes this is based off of the true lives of the Medici) the series gets. Most of the historical aspects of the series (buildings, schemes, etc.) are fairly accurate as I have researched it to make sure. There are a few places where you wonder if that person really exists (as there’s no mention of some characters) which is not an uncommon thing. History is written by the winners and people with the most influence. Whether characters were really in love with others below their station or not, there must be some amount of drama incorporated. If that means creating an insatiable, forbidden love, so be it.

Before I give my recommendation, I will admit that I have been drawn to the earlier century dramas such as Reign or The Tudors ß (would recommend, Henry VIII is crazyyy lol). Due to my current obsession, I would of course jump at the chance to watch another series of the same (especially since the Medici family is present in Reign). In my opinion the Netflix series of the Medici is a good one and 10 out of 10 would recommend (not that I am giving it a perfect 10 lol). Let me know your thoughts! If you have watched the series what was your impression of it? Next week the Netflix series discussed will be “Series of Unfortunate Events” which I hear is fantastic!

Have a great week!
