September’s Question of the Month: Your Ultimate Video Game!

Happy Sunday Players! Today I am posting my entry into September’s Question of the Month hosted by Kim at Later Levels! There’s still time to participate and if you want to get involved in asking a question, reach out to Kim! Click here for official rules and prompts.

Game Guide:

You’ve been tasked with making the Ultimate Video Game, but there’s a catch – you can only piece it together from parts of other releases. You can choose separate titles for visual design, sound design, storytelling, and gameplay. What four games would you use to make the Ultimate Video Game?

Fable is a cornerstone game in my life and I think what makes Fable so interesting to me is the world building, storytelling and choices that the player makes is brilliant. Fable will be the Storytelling Design in my video game (also because I love Royalty and Period Pieces which Fable does well). fable II

Kingdom Hearts 2 is my selection for the Sound Design and music for the game.

While I’ve never played any Kingdom Hearts games, I’ve heard a few of the songs and I love that come from the Kingdom Hearts Franchise and from watching streams on speed runs of KH, I can safely say that I would love to take music from the game and incorporate it into my Ultimate Game.

Horizon Zero Dawn

hzd

hzd1

is my choice for the visuals of the game. The breathtaking scenery and color schemes would fit in seamlessly with the storytelling of Fable. In HZD, Aloy is able to hunt and journey through a great looking world. The colors used in this game would be welcomed and adapted to fit into my Ultimate Video Game.

I have to pay homage to my shooter games so Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption gets my final spot in gameplay.   Red_Dead_Redemption_Pic In RDR you play as John Marshton and journey across a semi open world similar to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. What makes the gameplay so amazing to me with Red Dead is that you can do so much in the game. You can scavenge, seek out legendary animals, play online with a band of friends or even just play mini games like shootouts to see who has the fastest trigger in the west. Instead of placing money into fancy cars, you’re trying to find or buy the fastest horse whose stamina can’t be matched. Red Dead provided variety and that variety kept me playing the game for longer than expected.

My ultimate video game will have the same variety, allowing the players to choose different tasks and work towards common goals.

So how do 4 completely different video games add up to an ultimate video game?

That’s easy, the game will be an RPG game with variety in goals, tasks and side quests that can keep gamers intrigued for the long haul. I want a game set in the Medieval Period where the Player can choose to play as a Royal, A Servant, A Merchant or A Peasant. I want to make the game truly choice driven like it is in Fable. Each role will have several pathways that they can choose like a peasant can follow a path to become a soldier or knight  and a merchant can follow a path to ship goods for the royals. Each choice will affect the way the character is portrayed to the public and their appearance.

With a story with  many different routes, there has to be a main plot-line. In my game, everything is leading up to the Annual Festival taking place in the Kingdom. Each storyline will have something to do with the festival. The knights will need to protect the royals, the royals will need to secure an alliance, the merchants can secure the royal contracts, etc. Playing from different angles will increase the play time and replay ability of the game.

The music will be dynamic and intriguing with each event that happens. I imagine an orchestra of sounds from melodic strings to thumping drums all the way back to the prestigious trumpets. I want discovery missions to seem whimsical and when appropriate tense to make the players heart race.

Lastly the visuals taken from HZD would fit in perfectly. The Kingdom can be in the mountains so the liberal use of brilliant color schemes in the form or green, blue, white and gray would be recommended and encourage. Scenic views of the countryside when a player is traveling to another town or kingdom for a mission would be detailed.

This is the ultimate video game that takes from games that follow similar patterns. Which video games would you use to create an Ultimate Video Game? Let’s talk video games!

August Question of The Month: My Video Game Family!

Happy Monday Players! Each month the great people over at Later Levels hosts a Question of the Month segment where gamers are encouraged to participate. With the new format, select volunteers are coming up with the questions and this month Brandon from That Green Dude wanted to find out which video game characters would be in your video game family. Power up Players to meet my video game family!

Many of us say that we would like to live in a video game world but surely we would have a family. My question is, which video game characters would be a part of your family in a gaming world of your choice?

Yoshi-

yoshi-mario-1070269

Pets can be like family and Yoshi would be my pet dinosaur and best friend! I can see this being a Scooby and Shaggy type relationship where we do everything together!

Orisa-

orisa

Orisa from Overwatch would be my mother. She is kind and very protective. In Overwatch, Orisa’s ability involves a shield to protect the team, a gravity ball to throw enemies off balance and her ultimate boosts the attacks of her teammates. Just like a mother, Orisa is hard to take down and makes sure to protect those that she loves!

Cayde-6 –

cayde

Cayde-6 from Destiny is one of my favorite characters for his wit, his cunning and his skills on the battlefield. I can see Cayde being a brother in my family. One of the reasons I love Cayde is that he is always looking for the easy way out, whether neglecting his responsibilities or getting someone else to do his duties. He has the antics, the humor and the protective ability to be an older brother and I would love to have him on my team.

Scorpion –

Scorpion

My dad would be non other than Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat Franchise! Get Over Hereeeee! Yup Scorpion would keep the family in line and make sure that I have my head on straight, even if he has to force it.

Chun-Li –

ChunLi

I have always looked up to Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series since I was a little girl, so I couldn’t see my family being complete without having her as a sister. I would probably be the youngest and Chun-Li would be the eldest of the 3 of us.

Minecraft Sheep and Cow-

Moomers and my brethren the Minecraft Sheep would be my friends. You can’t have a complete family without having those friends that are like family visiting you everyday. When I play Minecraft I often wear the skinned sheep skin and walk around with my brethren in the field. Moomers, the minecraft cows have always understood me and we get into antics when I’m leading them across the water with wheat in hand. Good times!

Now that my family is set, where would we live? Kirby’s Dream World is a great option! I can just see the clouds and the different fun and bright stages. I like things to be light and fun so Kirby’s dreamland would be my choice!

KMA_Dream_Land
Doesn’t this look beautiful!

Those are the video game members of my family! Who would you have as members of your family and why? Let’s Talk Video games!

Aprils Question of the Month: Survive Your Apocalypse!

Power up Players for April’s Question of the Month Response, hosted by the Later Levels Blog! In an effort to get back into the swing of things, I’m diligently participating in the monthly gaming question and this month and we have a super fun one! This challenge is open to all bloggers so feel free to get involved, publish your answers and check out the other answers!

So the question this month was:

Which three video game characters would you choose to help you survive the apocalypse? The type of apocalypse and enemy you’ll encounter will depend on your birthday…

Month Disaster Date Enemy
January Nuclear winter 01-03 Sentient AI
February Asteroid 04-06 Mutants
March Flood 07-09 Raiders
April Ice age 10-11 Robots
May Volcano 12-14 Vampires
June Overpopulation 15-16 Zombies
July All-out war 17-19 Aliens
August Disease 20-21 Mother Nature
September The Rapture 22-24 Insects
October Solar flare 25-26 Graboids
November Plague 27-29 Plant-life
December Mass drought 30-31 Killer Tomatoes

To properly Answer this question, we have to find out what I will be fighting and surviving against. Based on the chart my birthday of April 26th will have me surviving in an “Ice Age” against “Graboids (remember the movie Tremors lol).” Yea, Graboids are the huge sandworms that rely on vibrations and can crash through structures and eat you. This should be fun! Let’s see who I would use!

Steve from Minecraft (The Builder/Scout/Varietyman): –

steve

Before you start laughing, think about it. Steve is very, very useful. Steve knows helpful crafting recipes and he is a master builder! Steve will be able to help build the shelter and reinforce it against the Graboids. I’d probably commission steve to make a shelter that is surrounded on all sides by a lava pit! This way, if the Graboids try and break through, they will end up fried instead. Steve is also an expert farmer and explorer so he will be able to adapt to the frigid temperatures and help build a self sustaining farm!

Pyramid Head (The Enforcer) –

pyramid head

Listen this may not seem like a likely choice but think about what Steve will be doing. Steve is going to be constructing a shelter, tools and other things which will drive the attention of the Graboids. Since they rely on vibrations on the ground to catch and kill their prey, we’re going to need a bodyguard and I can’t think of a better one than Pyramid Head. This Silent Hill Villain boosters Super Strength, Agility, Stamina, and due to his Type 2 Immortality, Durability. Pyramid Head is a great character to use for fighting off the Graboids and any other threats until our shelter is complete.

Dr. Mario (Medic) –

Dr._Mario_box_art

You can’t survive any apocalypse without a medical person on hand. Dr Mario is my pick in this band of misfits because, he has a pill for everything (I hope he knows CPR and how to bandage legs lol). Mario can also be used to help keep Pyramid Head in check. Since he is essentially created by the victim, Mario treats him like Fred from the Drop Dead Fred movie and keeps him sane and stable with his different pills (that got weird really fast haha).

Those are my picks for Surviving the Ice Age of Graboids terrorizing the planet. What 3 characters would you choose? Do you think my team can help me survive? Feel free to join in the Question of the Month and check out our blogging buddies and their responses. Let’s talk video game characters during the apocalypse!

December’s Question of The Month!

Power up Players! Thank you for reading my extremely delayed response to the Question of the Month hosted by our friends over at Later Levels! Each month other game bloggers and myself answer the question posed by Later Levels or the community. It’s a great way to get involved and I’m very thankful to Kim for letting me participate! I was working on the NaNoWriMo challenge in November, so along with less blog posts, i was unable to submit my answers for the poll. I still enjoyed the question so I will post my opinion and answer here and then you all can visit the Later Levels blog to read and vote for your favorite answer!

This month’s question was submitted by : Nathan!

question

Which video game character would make the best Santa?

The first character that popped into my head instinctively wa Sonic the hedgehog. After a careful analysis of my Sonic gaming history, I’ve realized that he would make a fantastic Saint Nick! sonic santa

Comparison : Sonic Versus Santa

In most Sonic games, especially the early generation games, your goal was to speed through maps or “Zones” to stop the plans of the evil Dr. Robotnik or Eggman! In order for Sonic to accomplish this task, he had to find and collect the Chaos Emeralds so that he could use the powers of the united Emeralds to defeat his enemy and save whatever animals or characters that were under siege. Sonic also collected rings that allowed him to gain strength. Bam, that’s Sonic! As the games progressed, Sonic was joined by friends who would help him defeat his enemies as well.   From this analysis, I can already see great qualities that would make Sonice an excellent Santa!

  • Sonic is a master in searching for Chaos Emeralds! This savvy makes Sonic an excellent gift giver! He is able to search all of the best deals whether he’s at the mall or shopping online to find the gifts that everyone wants. You want an exclusive toy, if you were nice all year, Sonic will find it!
  • Sonic is super fast and as far as I have seen a tank of endurance and stamina. Sonic can definitely take on the monumental task of delivering the presents all over the world in one night. He doesn’t need magic, all he needs are a few chilli dogs and plenty of water. SonicSantaClaus
  • Sonic’s entourage of friends would definitely assist in building the slay with Tails, wrapping the presents with Amy, Stuffing the Stockings with Cream and even picking the coolest toys with Knuckles. Sonic’s friends are definitely the “Elves” and “Toyshop workers” that help Santa fulfill the wishes of all nice children!

Those are my reasons for picking Sonic the Hedgehog as the best video game character that would work well as Santa! What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my answer? Which video game character would you choose and why? Make sure to check out the poll and vote for your favorite entry by clicking Here! Let’s talk!

October’s Question of the Month!

Happy Tuesday Novas! Thank you for tuning into today’s post which is my response to Later Level’s Question of the Month! Each month our friends over at Later Levels poses a question of the month and have readers vote on the best answer! The question that was selected was submitted by Imitaz , let’s see what we are working with:

If you had to pick a video game mercenary, who would you choose?

Ohhh mercenaries huh! I have a few in mind that would be a great choice for this month’s topic! I’m going to briefly go over some great mercenaries and then unveil my answer and choice!

Notable Mercenaries:

The Dark Brotherhood (Oblivion and Elder Scrolls Series)- If you’ve ever played any of the Elder Scroll series, you know that you are able to join different Guilds or Organizations. There’s the Fighter’s Guild where you prove your might in battles, the Mages Guild where you take on quests to assist in Magic and my personal favorite The Thieves Guild where you pretty much steal and sell off items to a “Fence.” Among all of the Guilds, the best mercenaries could be found in the Dark Brtherhood! The Dark Brotherhood is essentially a gang of assassins that are contracted to take out their target.

dark brotherhood
You have specific ways to take out the targets!

They are stealthy, efficient and never caught. This would be an excellent pick but because it’s more than 1 person this is not my pick today!

Fox Mcloud (StarFox Series)- Fox Mcloud is a great character in the StarFox series. He is essentially a hired gun and he roams around doing missions for the StarFox crew. Now that I think about it, he reminds me of Han Solo from Star Wars! While this is an excellent pick, I haven’t played too much of StarFox to make him my top pick. I have played with him plenty of times in Super Smash Brothers and he is agile, quick and fierce when he shoots his pistol! fox

My pick… Drum roll please….

Jesse MCcree (Overwatch Series) – That’s right! I would choose Mccree from Overwatch as my “Hired Gun” (get it, get it. Mccree is already a Bounty Hunter so he will be up for the job. His special ability and parter The Peacekeeper makes sure that he hits his target every time! Dead-Shot will make sure that he never misses so you can be sure that your target will be taken out.

Mccree
Tell me he’s not getting the job done??? Lol

His agility and quick speed will also make him a hard opponent to defeat.

Thank you for reading today’s post and come back on Friday to vote for your favorites on the Later Levels Blog! Who would you choose as a mercenary? Who are your favorites? Let’s talk Video Game Characters!
