By yourself or with friends, your mission is to survive an epic oceanic adventure across a perilous sea! Gather debris to survive, expand your raft and be wary of the dangers of the ocean!  -https://raft.itch.io/raft

Raft is a unique survival game where you start on a 2 x 2 plank raft with a shark circling you and a plastic hook in hand. To start surviving and building your raft into a respectable home, you will use your plastic hook to grab items floating in the ocean. Listen, I know this game sounds like it’s no fun at all, but playing with my friend Xsanie, we have been having a blast surviving the ocean a la Castaway style! The game is still in development and available for Early Access, but I’m mostly happy with the progress so far.

Game Play-

The game play is enjoyable as you build and create a raft to survive. You can make your raft as luxurious (with paint, hammocks and furniture) or as minimalist as you would like. Many items can be found by reef diving in the water, but make sure you have the shark distracted or he will bite you. You can die from the shark, your health going to 0, starvation and not having enough water. I think I really enjoy having to multi-task, protect the raft and make sure that Xsanie and I have food and supplies to survive.

Research-

When we found out how to research items in the game, a entirely new experience was created. When the game is started, you have based recipes like how to make a base for the raft, water purifiers and grills. Once you build a Research Table, you can place items like wood, plastic, rope, etc into the table to unlock new crafting recipes. This open ups possibilities for comforts, upgraded grills & purifiers and more.

Danger-

1st lesson…Stab him with the pointy end!

Jaws is a constant thorn in your side throughout the entire game. I thought I could be smart and build my important items in the middle of the raft, because the shark can bite off pieces of your structure. I was wrong! The shark sometimes comes out of nowhere and bites the middle of the raft!!! How does that even happen? Once the shark bites off a piece of your raft, any item located on the section sinks to the bottom of the ocean. It’s quite annoying actually. Once you have a garden planted you also have to watch out for Seagulls that will fly in and eat everything.

Final Thoughts – I really enjoy raft and it’s a great game to play with a friend. Once the raft begins expanding, it’s great to have the extra pair of eyes and hands when the sharks or storm attacks the boat. Raft is currently in Early Access and there have been noticeable glitches like when you can’t see your hook and you miss barrels because of it. Hopefully the games gets an update that improves the experience, but all in all, it was worth the $20 that I spent. I will say it’s a bit tedious after floating for 3 hours so having different modes or even having larger islands that you can explore and stay on for longer periods of time would greatly improve the game.

This is the section of my reviews where I like to list my top reasons to Play or Skip the game.

Play:

  • A unique new survival game
  • Multiplayer Fun
  • Crafting Fun

Skip:

  • If you get seasick lol
  • If you prefer survival games where you can explore land and new areas

Playing The Game: Staxel Ep 1!

Power up Players for a new series called “Playing The Game!” Playing the game is going to be a cross series where I breakdown my initial analysis and thoughts on the game (like my First Impressions Posts) on the blog and then upload the actual gameplay on the GamersUnitedGG YouTube Channel. Today we will be Playing a game on Steam called Staxel.

Developer:Plukit

Publisher: Humble Bundle

Genre: Sandbox

Platform: PC

Price: $19.99

Staxel is an ambitious game designed to give the player a lot of creative freedom. We feel that we’ve reached a good level of polish, but content-wise, our vision for the game is far greater in scope. Our goal for Early Access is to keep expanding the game while listening to you—the player—to pinpoint our priorities.” …

Staxel is a sandbox adventure game that’s very similar to Minecraft. The game was presented to me by my friend Xsanie in our Discord channel and I immediately fell in love. We downloaded the game and I have been playing all weekend lol. Currently, the game is in the “Early Access” phase so there are updates and tweaks being made to improve the quality of the game.

Premise:

You are welcomed into a beautiful farming City by Farm Fam and the Mayor Maximilian. After a brief tutorial, you set out on your journey to rebuild the glory of the farm on the outskirts of town. Of course your relatives left you an old, rundown farm and barn that you will want to build and help use to attract more citizens to the town. Your entire goal is to farm and socialize with the other townspeople.

Expectations:

I initially expected to play a game where you build a farm with friends and go mining like we would do in Minecraft. Currently, the game is in early access but you can create multiplayer servers and farm with friends. I have 2 solo games and a multiplayer game going on currently. There was a game called “Avatar Farm” that I used to play and loveddd on Xbox 360. You would use your

Actual Gameplay:

So I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that this sandbox game actually gives you missions and quests to participate in to go alongside with building a farm.

staxel al

Episode 1:

In episode 1, I learned all of the abilities and features of the town. I learned how to plant, water and build my farm. I was also provided with a pet puppy named Buddy in which I care for. He follows you around town or you can leave him at home. I was able to visit the workshop in town and learn new skills in building and assembling items from a learned recipe.

Learnings

  • Each townsperson occupies a role and can give you quests
  • Even though you have options to decline, the A.I.’s get mad if you do!
  • Your pet will only follow you within a certain range, so don’t walk too fast if you have them tailing you.
  • You can charge tools to cover more area. Charging an axe cuts down more of the tree and charging the hoe tils a larger spread of land.
  • You can make money by selling items like bugs, wood or crafting items.

Questions

  • Does your pet help you farm or have any special abilities?
  • Is there a main story you have to complete?
  • What happens if you run out of missions?

Thank you for reading my analysis of my first episode in Staxel! As this series progresses there may be new sections added on. You can watch the gameplay of episode 1 on YouTube by clicking here! If you would like to join me in the Playing the Games segment, please leave your interest in the comments or email us at GamersUnitedGG@gmail.com. Have you played Staxel? Countdown to 2018: Favorite Video Games Released in 2017!

Power up Players for Countdown week on GamersUnitedGG! We are nearing the end of the year and have experienced another fantastic year of video games, movies and interests. Before we catalogue this year in our memories, we will be counting down the top moments of the year! To start off the week of countdowns, we’re going to start with the premise of the blog, video games! We have been asking around and will list our top video games of 2017 in descending order from number 5 to our favorite game of the year!

#5 Call of Duty World War II – cod

Call of Duty World War II comes at the bottom of the list for me. While I am happy to finally have played a COD game after a few years hiatus, WWII wasn’t as grand as I thought it would be. I believe it is because I wasn’t really a fan of World at War and WWII is supposed to be a sort of sequel to that game. The old school style guns and maps are just not appealing to me, but the game is still fun so it made my list!

#4 Golf It – Golf-It-Free-Download

Golf It is a mini golf game (similar to Golf With Friends) where you will play as the golf ball! I like this game because you can change the appearance of your golf ball like adding on hats or changing the color. This game is an adventure, sandbox type game where the community can create maps for you to download. Golf it is super fun and I’ve been playing a few times a week with my friends (this will be a game featured on the YouTube channel next year).

#3 Destiny 2 – destiny3

D2 is my first experience with Destiny as I did not play the original Destiny game. I just didn’t find it appealing, but after being worn down by my friends, I picked up Destiny 2 about a week after it’s release. You can review my First Impressions post by clicking here! I really enjoyed D2 and the variety of game modes gave it a better rating in my opinion.

#2 Final Fantasy XIV Online – final

I have just recently purchased Final Fantasy XIV Online (First Impressions Post coming soon). FFXIV is a MMORPG game where you are battling bosses, fulfilling quests and leveling your characters to become a great savior! Sooo pretty much another RPG game. What I love about FF so far is that it offers soooo many missions and character classes that you can play. I am playing as an Arcanist but I think I will upgrade to a Summoner soon. This is my first experience with a Final Fantasy game and I am enjoying the ride so far. Plus Chocobos!!!!!!

#1 Halo Wars 2 – halo-wars-banner

My number 1 game for 2017 has to be Halo Wars 2 hands down! I was super excited when I found out that HW2 was being released on the Xbox One, so much so that I traded in my original Xbox One and bought the Halo Wars 2 Xbox One S bundle! Best purchase of my life! The new Xbox runs smoother, is white (which I wanted instead of the standard black one), is slimmer and just beautiful! You can read my review of Halo Wars 2 by clicking here! I really enjoyed the strategy game and I still play it to this day (it was released in February). If you have played HW2, I also wrote a First Impressions and Tips post!

Those are my top games played that were released in 2017. Let’s hear from some of our blogging buddies:

Drakulus- Top 5 games of 2017 are  Divinity: Original Sin 2, Wolfeinstein 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, The Elder Scrolls Legends, and For Honor. Read the review on why and the top 10 games that made the list by clicking here!

Lightning Ellen – Top 5 games didn’t really make her list because she didn’t play 5 games in 2017 lol! She did give her insight on her top 2 games which are Hellblade and Horizon Zero Dawn!

Hundstrasse – Luke from Hundstrasse posted on his top 5 games of 2017 which included 7 Days to Die, Owlboy, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Strafe and Fortnite! Read his reasons for selecting each game and their placings by clicking here!

The Well Red Mage – Our buddy and fellow blogger at WRM selected:

#1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
#2. Super Mario Odyssey
#3. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove
#4. The Disney Afternoon Collection
#5. SteamWorld Dig 2

What are your top game releases of 2017 that you have absolutely loved? Which games are you looking forward to in 2018? Have you played any of the video games on our lists? Tomorrow we countdown our Top WWE Events of 2017 and the 12 Days of Christmas posts resume! Let’s talk video games!
