Throwback Thursday Party Hits!

It’s THROWBACK THURSDAY!

Luna and I love music so we decided that this week would be perfect to pull together our Top 5 Throwback Thursday Party Hits!  Luna and I have a bit of a age gap and apparently party style so our Top 5 is completely different!

Nagems- Top 5

  1. For those of you who are 90’s babies, I’m pretty sure this is somewhere on your list too! I remember watching Britney Spears perform on TV and thinking… “OH MY God, I want to be her!” Not only was I, a super fan, but I even had the Backpack and Lunch box with her face on it….
    britney 1
    Oops!…I Did it Again-Britney Spears

    2. Not only was I obsessed with the Pop Princess but I also LOVED Barbie’s! From the age of 3-12, I carried my favorite Malibu Barbie with me everywhere….yeah you read that right, till the age of 12! Obviously it’s only fitting that this song would be on my Party list.

    barbiegirl
    Barbie Girl-Aqua

    3.  What party would be complete without your classic Girl Group?!? This song literally makes you want to jump on the couch with a hairbrush microphone screaming at the top of your lungs next to your best friends. Zigazig Ah!

    spice
    Wannabe-Spice Girls

    4. The Pop Princess returns to the list! I mean…is anyone really shocked?? Who doesn’t love the idea of dancing down the hall with pig-tail braids and a sexy school girl outfit?? I mean I have only done it in my dreams but still….!

    britney-spears-baby-one-more-time4
    Baby One More Time-Britney Spears

    5.  Last but certainly not LEAST-my HOMEGIRL and DIVA QUEEN! Not only did I love to sing along to this every time it played on the radio, I dressed up as a Genie for Halloween that year! My friends and I would listen to this and make the hand gestures each time!

    genie
    Genie In a Bottle-Christina Aguilera

Wow great list Megan! While I can appreciate Genie in a Bottle, Spice Girls and Baby One More time, my interpretation of party hits took a left turn at Albequrque!

My 5 party songs seem to be in a different era than that of Nagems. Keep in mind that she is 22 and I’m 31 so yea… there’s that lol. The songs on my list shouldn’t have been heard by her as she would have been crazy young. As I was going down my list, I noticed that my songs are from the same genre, oh well lol. My choices are based on songs that I know immediately have my friends going ohhhh this is my jam!

Luna’s Top 5 Party Hits!

First up we have Hot In Here by Nelly! – This is a party classic. As soon as you start playing this song, all of the dance hit from the early 2000’s like the chicken hand and stanky leg are being shown on the dance floor.

hot in here
So Take Off… Wait a second!

Next we have Salt Shaker by Lil Jon and the Ying Yang Twins. This song and Get Low were southern classics at parties and clubs. This was when the down south its took over the radio like Nelly, Ludacris, T.I., etc. This never fails to get me up and dancing.

Trying to keep these gifs appropriate lol

The Thong Song by Sisqo. I don’t really count this as a party song but this song is hilarious and when you play it at a party, people are like, really??? Sisqo… OOOOHHHHH!

Where the party at? By Jagged Edge Featuring Nelly was always a great hit. Between the original version and the remix with everyone and their uncle in it, I loved hearing the drop of the beat at the beginning of the song!

where-the-party-at-o
I miss those songs when you just ACT A FOOL!

Back That Thang Up– this is really a classic party hit. It’s a little more on the rugged side of things but it never fails to get people up out of their seats to pop or twerk until the song ends lol.

Squid, you look good won’t you BACK THAT THANG UP!

Alright now it’s time for use to hear from you! What are your favorite Party Hits? Whose list did you like the best? Let’s talk party hits!

Friendly Trends Ep 2: New Addictions

Happy Wednesday Novas! Thank you for reading the second installation of the Friendly Trends post! This segment will pretty much discuss some of the trends that my friends have “Put Me On” to and it’s my way of sharing these trends with you! The first segment was me talking about some of the Guilty Pleasure trends that I was put on to. Check out that post by clicking here!

Today, we will go over a few new addictions that I was introduced to. Starting with a few YouTubers and music!

My co-worker Megan (nagems21) was telling me about some great YouTubers that perform covers to songs. William Singe and Alex Aiono perform some of the top songs today in collaboration and separately. They’re flipping amazing!!!! Here’s my favorite collaboration.

I now have discovered a few more awesome YouTubers who perform covers and I love it! Here’s another one of my favorite covers by Alex and it’s a song that Selena put me on to.

One of my best friends Stephanie got me hooked on this new mobile game called Sky Islands (game review coming soon). Sky Islands is pretty much a mobile RPG anime game where you make money running your very own villa! You grow crops, serve guests, play Pinata Parties and other little mini games, while you collect rent from renters at your villas. Steph has been playing this game for a few weeks now and she spends HOURS on it! It’s actually pretty fun. During my trip up their last week Stephanie, myself and her little sister were jumping into Pinata Parties and taking the top 3 spots everytime! Screenshot_20170815-161921

My friend Selena also put me on to different music that I wasn’t aware of. I go to Selena for the latest Hip Hop and R&B hits because she’s always “Woke” (her words lol). Some of the songs that she has put me on to is “Don’t Mind” by Kent Jones, Torey Lane’s “Proud Family Remix” and “Or Nah” by Ty Dolla Sign. “Or Nah” is explicit so I recommend the edited version lol.

What are some new addictions that you were put on to by your friends? Do you find yourself developing new hobbies that your friends have? Let’s talk Friendly Trends!

Video Game Playlist

Happy Thursday Novas! Thank you for tuning in to today’s post. I want to apologize for the content slipping this week, but I am on vacation at the moment so getting around to blogging hasn’t been an easy task. Today’s post will be a look into music that I love to listen to while playing videos games!

It’s funny, I turn on music when I’m playing alone in games like Gears of War, Call of Duty or a sandbox game like Minecraft. Why, you say? Because music can help you focus, put you in a great mood and help you forget about your stresses. I like to consider myself a bit eclectic so the songs I will list here will span different genre’s. I encourage everyone to share some of your favorite songs to game to and I’ll add them to a spotify playlist for everyone to download.

The beginning: listening to music while playing video games started for me in the original Xbox days. If you have read my Evolution of a Gamer post, I talked about gaming starting with my brother Kenny and his journey into the new consoles. Well Kenny introduced me to games I probably would never have played, one of which was the Tony Hawk Pro Skater Games. I remember him first playing Pro Skater on his computer and her would have music paying in the background. When the game released for Xbox, Kenny would still have music playing through his computer and he pretty much put me on to music like Staind and Nickelback.

Once I had my own system, I started burning music on to the 360 to listen to at my leisure.  tony Here are some of my favorite songs in which I played during Tony Hawk Games:

  • This is How You Remind Me – Nickelback
  • Price to Play – Staind
  • Hero – Nickelback
  • Senorita – Justin Timberlake

Most of the songs I listened to were Alternative and Pop while playing Tony Hawk. I’m not sure if it was the beat, the lyrics or the feeling on the songs, but they seemed to mesh well when I was kicking flips or grinding on rails lol.

First Person Shooters – When I delved into the world of First Person Shooters, the music that I turned on changed. Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 were my first experiences with FPS games and before party chat, I would play alone with my mic muted and play music. Here:s a sample of my FPS Playlist:

  • Lose Yourself – Eminem
  • Forgot about Dre – Dr Dre & Eminem
  • Lollipop – Lil Wayne
  • Shots – Lil Jon

You can kind of see the difference in the music choices for each game. I wanted more upbeat or hardcore music when I shooting people’s faces off lol. I wanted to feel like I was watching an intense action movie and the playlist had to match.

Strategy or RPG Games: When I started playing games like Fable and Oblivion, music still played a huge role in gaming. When you’re playing games like this and you’re alone, you have to do quite a bit of farming to gain the resources you may want or need. This tideous bout of compleing the same quests, killing the same enemies or searching for the same item can get monotonous. How do you combat the endless farming? Music of course! Here’s a sample of my RPG or RTS playlist:

  • La La Land – Demi Lovato
  • Hey Daddy – Usher
  • Danza Kuduro -Don Omar
  • The Way – Ariana Grande

This final playlist features more pop songs than anything. I need to be energized and feel motivated to continue questing. Below is a sample of my current Video Game Playlist!

That’s a list of some of my favorite songs to play video games to, what are yours? Do you have a specific time that you listen to music when you are gaming? Are there any memories that you have specifically about gaming and listening to music? Share your thoughts! Let’s talk Video Game Playlists!

30 Day Challenge Video Game Edition: Day 8!

Happy Thursday Novas! I’m cheating on this answer as well because I don’t want to repeat games that have already talked about. Trying to keep it a little diverse here. Oe of the features that make’s video games amazing are the memories that we associate with them. One of the most powerful forms of association is the integration of music, more specifically the soundtracks in the video game. Let’s see what today’s topic is.

Day 8 – Best soundtrack.

I  rockband  would say the game with the best soundtrack is Rock Band 2. Yes, this is a cop out answer because it has hundreds of songs in the library that you can download and play. Rock Band 2 had so many fantastic songs from some of my favorite artists. Between rock band and guitar hero games, my spotify has songs that are so nostalgic to me. Some of the songs I’ve first heard on the video games. It’s funny because I was listening to Can’t be Saved in the car and I just moved my hands as if I were playing the guitar. It was a great feeling.

My real answer to this question would probably be oblivion,  fable 2 or super Mario 64. These games have amazing soundtracks to me. Starting with Oblivion. I love how the music in the town differed from music in the dungeon. Even in ESO now, you will have great music throughout the game that will have you feeling happy, anxious or scared for your life. The subtle shifts in the music is what makes games great for us to play.

Fable 2 is the same way. When you’re going through the village, the music is calming and warm. You can feel the community atmosphere. When you’re learning new abilities the music changes to a more determined theme. When you’re fighting monsters a more heroic style of music plays. As a gamer, your style of play adjusts to the music that you are hearing as well.

Lastly, Super Mario 64! I can still hear the music in Peach’s castle after completing a level. It’s so uplifting and fun. You feel as if you want to explore and play around with Mario’s different jumps (ya, yahoo,  whoopie) lol. Playing the dark levels where you would encounter Bowser or a boss fight was epic. The shift in the musics undertones allowed you to get in the competitive mind frame. You start to feel the adrenaline pumping, your hands my become clamy, hearts racing… its amazing! Check out my favorite song below!

Those are my picks for the best soundtracks. I’ve stayed true to games that I’ve actually played. I’ve watched gameplay for Dark Souls, Dragon Age and Bloodbourne, but since I haven’t played it myself I won’t mention them. Also notable games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy have amazing soundtracks, but again I haven’t played these games. Which video games do you think have the best soundtracks? Let’s talk video game music!
