Black Panther Spoiler Free Movie Review!

Happy Sunday Novas and thank you for reading today’s movie review for Black Panther. When I seen this movie preview last year before Thor: Ragnarok, I knew that I would want to make plans to see this movie on opening weekend. Sit back and relax for the spoiler free Black Panther moview review!

Story: Black Panther is the story of the rise of T’Challa, son of the King of Wakanda, an African Nation that is technologically superior to the world. Wakanda is comprised of different tribes in Africa, who band together to keep the secret of their advances and most powerful resource, Vibranium from the outside world. For centuries, the lands of Wakanda have been hidden in plain sight and while the rest of the world views it as a 3rd world country, Wakanda has built a city that is far more superior than anyone else. As a member of the royal family, T’Challa uses the powers of the Black Panther to help fight crime and bring justice.

tchalla1

Following his rise to power, T’Challa faces and enemy that looks to destroy everything that his father has built. Can he be the leader that Wakanda needs to usher in a new century or will he be rivaled for his claim to the throne? The true test of Leadership and ruling is just around the corner.

Visuals & Sounds: Black Panther is a truly visually stunning movie. I remember the scene where T’Challa, his head general and his ex-girlfriend Nakita walked into an underground gambling house. This scene was beautiful with the use of bright oranges and reds, you can feel the atmosphere that they are walking into. The scenery when the cameras pan over Wakanda shows a breathtaking landscape and each tribe has their signature colors and cultural rituals.

Characters: There’s a great mix of characters in Black Panther and you may know most of the actors featured in this film. One of the most notable characters for me is the general Okoye played by Danai Gurira, you may know her as Michonne from AMC’s The Walking Dead series. Okoye is probably my favorite character in the series. She represents strength, loyalty and a clear conscious when it comes to T’Challa. Other notable characters are Forest Whitaker, Angela Basset and Michael B. Jordan. All of the roles were played perfectly and I really enjoyed the differences in each character.

costumes

The main character T’Challa adorned many different looks that seem comparable to the African Culture. The style of the Wakanda people versus the style of the outside characters are portrayed very well.

Action: What I really loved about this movie was the believability. While Black Panther is a superhero, the aspects and fight scenes were not too far exaggerated. The integration of the Vibranium technology made for unique fight scenes and they were perfect in execution. This movie does not have action around every corner as it is more story driven, but when a fight scene appears, you better hold onto your hats.

bp

Final Thoughts: If you couldn’t tell from the review of the movie elements, I really loved this movie. I think Black Panther is one of the best Marvel Movies that I have watched and it really makes me eager to see the new Avengers movie releasing later this year. From the costumes to the action to the story I think that Black Panther was really well done, albeit a bit lengthy. The movie runs about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I’m not the only one giving the movie a rave review. Rotten Tomatoes gives Black Panther a 97% rating. Check out the trailer below and if you’re looking for a great movie to watch, stop by your local theaters and watch Black Panther! Don’t forget to stick around after the credits 😉

This is the section of my reviews where I will list my top reasons to Play or Skip the film!

Play:

  • If you love Marvel Movies and want to stay in order before watching the new Avengers Movie.
  • A Great Superhero movie with a well developed story

Skip:

  • The movie is pretty lengthy
  • Don’t skip, go watch! lol

Luna’s Rankings: Favorite Star Wars Movies!

Happy Tuesday Novas! I hope the New Year is starting off well for everyone! Every Tuesday I will try to upload a Rankings post where we rank our top 5 items in a category from the least loved to the totally binge watch rankings. If there are more than 5 items in the category, the top 5 results are essentially my favorites and I am ranking their placings. This year I want to try something new, so I will be asking for your feedback as well to feature in the next week’s rankings!

Game Guide:

  • Respond in the comments with your top 5 placings
  • Tune in the following Tuesday to view the results of the Community’s Rankings and see your answers featured!

It’s that easy! Furthermore, if you would like to participate in my Rankings Post each week, let me know in the comments and we can set topics to post each Tuesday!

Now onto the Rankings….

But First: I have been super excited to make this Rankings Post because my co-worker Dan and I have talked about our rankings just before The Last Jedi movie released. He told me that my #1 choice is NO ONE”S FAVORITE and that I’m ALLOWED TO BE WRONG! Lol, it’s super funny because I told him that I would do this post. I’m aware that my favorite will probably not make anyone else’s.

#5 Revenge of the Sith –

star-wars-episode-iii-revenge-of-the-sith-345431l

Revenge of the Sith is one of my favorite movies in the 2nd set of Star Wars Trilogies, mainly because you see the foreshadowed and anticipated turn of Anakin Skywalker. Anakin is upset, he’s scared and he is very, very angry. The puppeteer Darth Sidious tapped into every emotional imbalance that he could find to get Anakin to make the turn, but it wasn’t until seeing the fate of his beloved Padma did Anakin let the darkness consume him which lead to one of my favorite lightsaber battles; Anakin versus Obi Wan Kenobi.

#4 The Force Awakens –

force

The Force Awakens makes my lists for a few reasons, one of which being that a main character and Jedi was portrayed as a female lead. I personally take pride in seeing Rey develop her skills and learn that she is destined for more than a life as a scraper. We also receive a more humanized point of view of the Storm Troopers in Finn. Finn gives us a point of view that was never explored in the previous Star Wars movies and when he connects with Rey, a new journey begins.

#3 Empire Strikes Back –

empire

The Empire Strikes Back is one of the original 3 Star Wars movies and one of the most well known movies. This is the movie where Vader reveals his secret to Luke, where Luke trains with the infamous Yoda and Han Solo meets with a beautiful Princess Leia. Empire Strikes Back is the most recognizable and action packed episode and it’s the one that I remember the most from my childhood. Empire Strikes Back “I Love you!”…. “I Know!”

#2 The Last Jedi –

star-wars-the-last-jedi-dolby-cinemas-poster-1058861

I should have prefaced this post by saying that I feel like I hold the millennials view of the Star Wars Saga. I don’t remember too much of episodes 4, 5 and 6 but I do remember my brother lovinggggg the movies. With that said, you will find that the originals are pretty scarce in my list so I’m excited to see what the community votes as their favorites. I really enjoyed the Last Jedi despite the arguments on both sides and it comes near the top of the list. You can read my review about why I loved the movie so much by clicking here!

#1 The Phantom Menace –

Star_Wars_Phantom_Menace_poster

Listen! Dan has already grilled me about being incorrect and that the Phantom Menace couldn’t possibly be my favorite. But it is. The Phantom Menace is one of the reasons I became re-invested in the Star Wars movies. Seeing my favorite Character Darth Maul and how cool he was (no matter how short lived) and seeing the strength of Queen Amidala amongst the pressures of the Federation just lit a spark in mie that is not easily distinguished. I LOVEEEEE THIS MOVIE! Jar Jar, The Gongons, Qui Gon, Podracers… what more can you ask?

Those are my top 5 movies in the Star Wars Saga. It’s time to get everyone involved and I would love if you would tell me your top 5 in the comments. Each movie will receive a number and the movies will be ranked on the Community board which will be announced next week! So what are your top 5 Star Wars Movies? What do you think of my list? Is Phantom Menace really that bad? Let’s talk Star Wars!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Spoiler Free) Review!

Happy Friday Novas! Last night I was able to catch the very first showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 3D and it was amazing! Today I bring you the Spoiler FREE movie review and encourage all fans of the saga to watch as soon as you can. If you haven’t watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens, beware! There are spoilers from that movie below.

Story: The Last Jedi picks up where The Force Awakens left off when Rey found the last Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in seclusion on a mysterious island. The 2 and a half hour movie showed the battle for the Republic between Snoke and Kylo Ren versus General Leia and the rebellion. With the larger scale battle taken place, Kylo and Rey line up on either side of the battle and both have to face personal obstacles in their midst. The Last Jedi contains the comedic scenes, awesome conflicts and morals that can only be taught from a Jedi Master or Sith Lord.

Visuals and Sounds: We watched the movie in 3D so that already beautifully, galactic world was amplified and if a great way! Normally, I don’t like to watch certain movies in 3D, but I really liked the way the 3D graphics were used in this movie. It accentuated the ships, lasers and of course the lightsaber battles that we all love to see! Star Wars has one of the best soundtracks of any series by far. There is the traditional galactic music at the beginning of the movie and a melodic symphony through every part of the movie. When Rey is training, the music is determined and hard, when there’s a revelation the music is hopeful and uplifting.

index

Characters: We are introduced to new characters in this movie and they provide a great support to the main characters that were established in The Force Awakens. From some of the reviews that I have been reading and hearing about, fans are upset about the backstory of Rey not being well established in The Last Jedi. I can understand the need to know where she comes from and why she is so special, but if you think about it, we didn’t know about Anakin for 3 episodes. I think this is a characteristic that the Star Wars Saga uses to draw out interest and ensure that we will continue buying tickets… and it works! We do get a glimpse into Kylo Ren’s past and find out why he turned to the Dark Side!

Action: There;s plenty of action in the movie for me! The pacing was fantastic with high adrenaline scenes, lightsaber battles, battleships making a statement and finding out secrets in a fantastic manner.

images

Final Thoughts: I really, really enjoyed the movie and I can see why it is being called one of the BEST Star Wars movies of all time. Watching a movie on premiere night with a bunch of fans of the series is always a great way to experience a Star Wars movie. As the traditional opening credits rolled the theater erupted into cheer and throughout the movie we all clapped, sighed and gasped at the scenes that we were experiencing together and in my case, in 3D. The atmosphere made the movie even more compelling to me, seeing and hearing everyone chanting for their favorite characters. At the end of the movie the entire theater stood up and clapped and I knew that I wasn’t the only fan satisfied with the money spent. I definitely encourage everyone to watch the movie!

This is the part of the review where I list my top reasons to Play or Skip the movie!

Play:

  • If you’ve watched and enjoyed The Force Awakens! Questions are answered and the picture is falling into place!
  • If you’re a Star Wars Fan!
  • If you’re not a Star Wars fan but want to start watching the series!

Skip:

  • If you have not watched The Force Awakens! There’s a bit of backstory that is re-told in this movie.
  • If you want more than 2 lightsaber battles (admittedly, I would have liked to see more battles)

Thank you for reading my spoiler free review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Are you planning or have you watched the movie yet? Who are your favorite Star Wars characters? Is there anything in particular that you are wanting to see in the film? Let’s talk Star Wars!

Luna’s Rankings: Favorite (Recent) Superhero Movies!

Happy Tuesday Novas! I posted a review for Thor: Ragnarok on Sunday and that got me thinking about my favorite Superhero movies of all time! Since there are plenty of crime fighting movies to go around, this will be a 3 part series. This week I will rank my top Superheor movies in the past 5 years. Next week I will rank my top Superhero movies from my childhood and the week after that I will rank my top superhero movies of all time! Let’s jump straight into my rankings from least favorite to favorite (note anything that doesn’t make the list is not in my top 5!)

bane_in_the_dark_knight_rises-wide
He’s sooo cool!

The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight comes towards the bottom of my list because well for 1 I’m not a Batman fan at all. I was actually forced to watch this movie when I was at my friends house when it released on DvD. What I really loved about this movie wasn’t the DArk Knight himself, but the villain Bane! Bane was amazing,. Convincing and he really made the movie. If you haven’t read any of my other posts regarding villains, I’m more of a villain type of girl!

Thor: The Darkworld– I really loveee Loki and Those the Darkworld only enhanced that love for Tom Hiddleson’s character. Don’t ask me the plot because I don’t really remember, I just remember Loki made sacrifices due to the personal issue that both he and Thor were facing.

914jy25FJGL._SL1425_

The Lego Movie – EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!!! Who says heros have to have superpowers, cool gadgets or be a mega ba-zillionaire? The Lego movie gave our small, everyman a voice and a chance to save the world, albeit the Lego World, but still. This movie was amazing and should be how we everyday people try to live and be heroes in our lives every day!

Thor

Thor: Ragnarok – This recent Thor movie inspired the topic for today’s post. I really love the movie and you can read my thoughts and review of the movie by clicking here!

hulk1

The Avengers – The original Avengers movie is my absolute favorite! My favorite superhero of all time is Ironman so meshing him together with Marvel’s best and having Robert Downey Jr. take the lead really drew me in. I liked the banter and the interaction between each of the heroes.

wonder

Wonder Woman – To preference my reasoning for selecting Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot as my favorite superhero movie in the past 5 years, I have to tell you that I was NEVER a Wonder Woman fan. The previews for Wonder Woman this year have been amazing and I was prepared to set my biases aside and watch, in theaters. This movie was so well done to me, so much so that I was instantly turned into a Wonder Woman fan! I can’t say enough about how great the movie, direction and acting was in Wonder Woman, so I will just stop here. It’s amazing and if you haven’t seen it, GO WATCH IT!

Notable Mentions that I haven’t seen: Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy,  Spiderman Homecoming, Justice League, TMNT and TMNT 2.

What are your favorite superhero movies from the past 5 years? HAve you seen any of the movies on my list? Let’s talk superheros!

We Need to Talk About Kevin

split-2017-movie-reviews

Hello all! Maria here, and I hope you all are doing great this week! And yes, I am here with another review, but this one is different. Why, do you ask? Well, it’s not a review for a Netflix series or even a basic television series at that, as are most of the reviews on this blog, but it’s a review for a film. I don’t see as many reviews for films on here, so today’s review is going to be a treat for you all.

(Actually, I stand corrected…I shouldn’t say “today’s review” because I will be writing another review right after this one, for a series on Hulu called Versailles. You’ll see it either today after this one or tomorrow, depending on when I finish it.)

This film review is going to be all about one of the most recent M. Night Shyamalan film, Split. I had the opportunity to watch it last weekend with a good friend of mine on Netflix, and let’s just say…it was very interesting. And dark in a few places. I would say, actually, it’s kind of disturbing to boot. But my eyes stayed stuck to that film, no matter what.

A brief synopsis: Split is about a guy, Kevin, who has Dissociative Identity Disorder (otherwise known as multiple personalities). His psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, has witnessed 23 of them, but there is one that has yet to materialize. At least, not until he kidnaps three teenage girls in a parking lot after knocking out the father of one of them. If you’ve seen the trailer for this movie when it first came out, then you may recall this scene. What happens after that, though, and after you see the girls imprisoned under the basement of a zoo, things themselves begin to spiral as you see Kevin go into one personality after another, eventually getting to the 24th mysterious one.

As I said before, this movie is anything but lighthearted, it is one of the more disturbing films I have ever seen. I’m sure some reading this will be asking, “Why did you keep on watching it? Why didn’t you choose something else on Netflix?” Well, there a few reasons why. First off, I wanted to see if the girls were going to get out alive; second, just seeing Kevin in his various personalities was intriguing, and having been a psychology major, anything psychology related always fascinates me. This film was basically the Netflix film I could not put down.

(As far as being lighthearted, there was one part in the film which made me laugh a little. I’m not sure if any of you watch Adventure Time, or have in the past, but there is a character on there called the Earl of Lemongrab, who is known for his “UNACCEPTABLE” scream. One of Kevin’s personalities, “Dennis”, is looking at the bathroom connected to where the girls are being kept, and he says that it’s in “unacceptable” condition. And to be fair, “Dennis” looks a bit like Lemongrab.)

lemongrab_by_twillis-d6266g9

In summary, I would have to give Split a 4.5/5.

With that said, I hope you enjoyed this review, and be sure to stay tuned for Versailles!

Beauty and the Beast 2017 Review!

Happy Sunday friends! I was very exciting when my boyfriend called me and said that we have tickets for Beauty and the Beast opening weekend! A piece of information about me is that I loveeee Beauty and the Beast! Belle is above all others my favorite Disney Princess as I felt that she related to me as a kid. When I heard there was a movie being made, a few things crossed my mind. Firstly was who would play Belle, would the movie stay true to the original, how will the Beast look? All of these questions will be answered in the movie review so let’s get to it! bab1

Story: The setting of course is a little village in France where Belle and her father Maurice live. Belle is a girl wanting to read and escape the boring life that has sought after her for years. The Beast is a Prince who is cursed by an Enchantress for having a cold heart, the only way to break the curse is to fall in love and have someone love him.  To start off the movie, Disney stayed true to the starting of the animation. Belle (Played by Emma Watson) walks through the village to return a book and pick up items from town. Emma is a beautiful singer and the song is EXACTLY the one from the animation! As the opening scenes continue you notice that the townspeople regard Belle as a beautiful, but peculiar girl (as they call her odd, strange and funny while she walks by). You’re immediately introduce to some central characters like her father Maurice and the boastful Gaston, who tries to win her hand in marriage. The opening also bring sin a little of the backstory for the Beast!  bab2

As the story progresses you are reliving your childhood watching how Belle and Beast meets. How the characters in the house like Lumiere and Mrs. Potts interact with Belle and how Gaston tries at every point to make Belle his! Will Belle stop the curse and free the Beast and his servants from their dreadful demise? What I particularly loved was that the movie stayed true to the original animation version and songs , however, it still managed to add in more background information about Belle’s mom and the Beast’s past to make the movie really well rounded!

The Ambience: This movie did an absolutely amazing job with the scenes and feel of the movie. The symphony playing in the background was incredible. Original and new songs were given the right amount emphasis.   For instance, the iconic “Be Our Guest” song performed by  be-our-guest  Lumiere and all of the other servants was really well executed. The song was exactly the same, however, the performance of the song was a little slower than the original version. The version of this song used made me smile from ear to ear as the colors brought out the amazing feeling that Belle had to have felt. Each scene was shot in great lighting and the colors all blended harmoniously with the scene at hand. Listen I was smiling throughout the whole movie. Nostalgia hit me in the gut on this one.

The Characters: In my opinion Disney did a great job in portraying the characters. The actors and actresses really took on their roles and brought you into the story. The Beast (Dan Stevens) was portrayed really well and the costuming wasn’t outrageous. My only critique is while Gaston (Played By Luke Evans ) was pretty good, the appearance of Gaston wasn’t as bulky as I had imagined. Also, Gaston was a simpleton yes, but he wasn’t really villainous until about halfway through the movie. I also think that Belle’s father Maurice didn’t appear as helpless as he did in the animation (Boyfriend and I disagree on this point of view). I was also quite impressed with the amount of diversity in this film. Yes, there were different ethnicities represented that were clearly absent from the animation and it shows a progressive (and more realistic) movie. One of my favorite characters which may be a surprise, was Gaston’s buddy and right hand man Lefou (Josh Gad) lefou . This character was portrayed a little differently from the animation however, he was amazing. He provided the comic relief and the conscious for Gaston.

Check out the trailer here!

All in all I HIGHLY recommend watching Beauty and the Beast! I know I am very bias in that this is my favorite movie as a kid, however, I think that bias also made me critical of what could happen. My expectations were through the moon on this movie and in my opinion it was executed perfectly. There were a few things I scratched my head on like when Belle entered the village at the beginning of the movie she grabbed a loaf of bread, but when she left the bread was gone lol. That’s just a minor thing and Boyfriend didn’t even notice lol. I will tell you that this movie does pull at the heart strings and I wasn’t the only one crying at certain parts.

Play:

  • To watch a FANTASTIC reboot of the original Disney animation
  • To see Emma Watson Shine as Belle and bring the character (convincingly) to life
  • The antics of Lefou were amazing and the comedy added in really suit the film
  • Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Chip, Beast and all other servants at the Castle
  • Smiling all the way through with new and original songs

Skip:

  • If you don’t like Beauty and the Beast (The only reason to skip really)
  • If you don’t like singing throughout the movie (Although it wasn’t overly done)
  • If you don’t want to cry (I’m just saying, even some guys were choked up)

Thank you for reading my EXTREMELY bias review of the new Beauty and the Beast Movie lol. I will end here by saying I wasn’t the only one impressed, at the end of the movie the entire theater stood up and clapped (as we dried our tears). Are you planning to watch the movie? Have you seen it already? Let’s talk Beauty and the Beast! Have a fantastic week!

Ultimate TKO Thursday: Billionaire Battle!

Bruce Wayne knows every inch of his company Wayne Enterprises. He knows when the finance reports are released, when each of his employees are on vacation or in the break room and he even knows how to make sure that budget cuts will never lead to layoffs for his employees. Yes, Bruce is very intuitive and intelligent. But how could he have ever predicted what would happen next? Wayne Enterprises is a well oiled machine that makes millions upon millions each year. As Bruce exits the board room with a grimace look about his face. The poised businessman starts to feel a rage that he has only felt during his vigilante role as the Dark Knight. His alter ego protects the streets of Gotham from the vile, disgusting, nefarious characters that only seem to thrive in Gotham. How could he tell his board members that for the first time, Wayne Enterprises was in the red. They were no longer a top contender on the Forbes list of Fortune 500 companies, no they were hemorrhaging money due to a competitor who has taken over their must lucrative markets. Wayne Enterprises, according to 2017’s current quarter is playing second fiddle to Stark Enterprises!

The Background: Over the course of the last 3 years, Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark have alternated awards for the most successful company, Man of the Year and Community Service Project of the Month. bat “How can that arrogant jerk be nominated for anything?” Bruce says as he paces around his study. “This is unacceptable” Bruce says as he peers over his right shoulder into the cracked door of his room. Bruce sets his glass on the desk and walks toward the secret door.

Tony Stark wakes up to excellent news! “Finally Stark Enterprises is back on top where it belongs.” he says. The newspaper Tony is looking at is then folded and sat on the edge of his table. “J.A.R.V.I.S! Do you I have any new emails?” tony-stark-2p Tony asks. He takes a bite out of his toast and chugs the cup of orange juice. “You have 3 new email messages. Should I review them now?” J.A.R.V.I.S responds. “Who are they from?” Tony replies. “One message is from your Board of Directors congratulating you on this Quarters Results, the next is from AWI Cruise Lines, Subject: You are a Winner! and the last is from Wayne Enterprises Subject line: Invitation.” J.A.R.V.I.S lists. “Wayne Enterprises?” Tony says. “I wonder what this can be? J.A.R.V.I.S read the email from Wayne Enterprises.” Tony says. “You are cordially invited to a meeting of the minds. Tony Stark, we have rivaled each other for too long. Let’s have a formal meeting next week at 8pm in Gotham. Oh and bring your suit… Iron Man! Signed Bruce. I do believe that you have been challenged sir.” J.A.R.V.I.S. finishes. “I do believe you are right.” Tony says as he walks over towards his new suit. “I do believe it is.”

The Battle: Ironman man rest on top of Wayne Enterprises waiting for Batman to appear. “I mean if you’re going to invite someone to a duel, shouldn’t you be punctual?” he says as he looks through the skyline of Gotham City. Iron Man 2 movie image He can see the bat symbol illuminating the sky “Pfft, how tacky. Talk about an ego-maniac” stark says. “Look who’s talking”the deep, gloomy voice responds. Stark turns towards the sound and sees Batman walking out of the shadows. “Ah, there you are. So what is this about?” Stark asks. batman Batman tilts his head to side and opens his left palm. A Batring slides from under his suit and he responds “There’s only room for 1 vigilante and I have decided that you’re too arrogant to be him.” He tosses the Batring at Ironman who swiftly knocks it away with his arm. “Cute, but um with toys like that I think that I will take the number one spot. Plus this whole dreary thing is not working for me, could you smile every once in a while?” Stark notices the brooding Bat smirks and lunges at him.

The 2 begin to spar on the roof of Wayne Enterprises. Batman’s abilities in hand to hand combat are far superior to Ironman’s, however, J.A.R.V.I.S makes sure that Stark is staying afloat in this fight. “You’ve really been pumping the iron haven’t you?” Stark says. “You should really pay more attention to your opponent instead of your wise cracking mouth!” Wayne says. Before Stark could muster up another witty comeback Batman follows a 3 hit punch combo with a swift leg sweep bring the Iron hero down. Batman towers above him with an odd ball shaped item in his hand. “I can see that I have won, so you should find new distributors for Stark Enterprises.” he says. Stark shakes his head and Batman replies “Have it your way.” tossing the sparkled ball on top of Ironman. Ironman shakes on the ground as the electromagnetic pulse takes over.

“Now that suit is useless” Batman says and walks toward the edge of the roof. “You know, I had a feeling that you would do something like this?” Stark says in a rather chipper mood. Wayne quickly turns around to see that Ironman was no longer immobile. “That’s why I changed the suit. That EMP didn’t damage anything, you see I’m smarter than you.” Stark proceeds. He taps Batman on the shoulder “Checkmate!” The Bat’s eyes are now wider than the moon and index1 Ironman blasts him off of the roof. “You know he wasn’t a bad guy, moody yes, but not bad. J.A.R.V.I.S let’s go home.” Stark says. In a blink of an eye his thrusters are propelling him into the air and back towards Stark Enterprises.

Meanwhile Batman is hanging off the edge with his grappling hook. “We shall meet again Stark, we shall meet again!”

What did you think of the battle? Did you agree with the winner? Who wins in your mind out of Ironman and Batman? Let’s Talk TKO!

Ultimate Thursday TKO: Wicked Witches!

Happy Thursday All! It’s that time again for the match of the week on Ultimate Thursday TKO where I will pit 2 characters from unrelated games, movies, realms etc. against each other in a fan fiction battle to see who would take the crown as the champion of Ultimate TKO! This week I’m going to switch it up and pit 2 of the wickedest, most powerful witches in pop culture: Zelena the wicked witch of the west from Once Upon A Time and Bellatrix Voldemort’s right hand woman from Harry Potter!

Instead of listing their abilities (because they’re no video game characters) I will instead provide brief description of their history and magic. With that comparison out the way, we can sit back and enjoy the match. We will start with someone that everyone should know, the Wicked With of the West, Zelena.

So remember that good ole tale of the Wizard of Oz with Dorothy and her friends battling the Wicked witch of the West? Well Zelena is that witch, only she is the adaptation of the character portrayed in the Once Upon A Time television show. Zelena’s powers in the show were one of the most powerful in the land.

  • Conjuration
  • Healing Spells
  • Heart-ripping
  • Magical Immobilization
  • Pyrokinesis
  • Shapeshifting
  • Telekinesis
  • Teleportation

Now let’s take a look at the infamous Bellatrix’s abilities.

  • Dark arts Mastery
  • Non Verbal Magic
  • Expert Duelist
  • Occlumency/ Legilimency
  • Unbreakable Vow Bonder

Battle: After Zelena returns to the zelena_312 land of Oz with the magic mirror that she has always desired, she begins to ask it questions. Just like the Evil Queen she wants to know who her competition is, yet she’s not asking about beauty or being fair. No Zelena has no interests in those type of answers, Zelena is convinced that she is the strongest and most talented with to have ever lived. “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the most powerful witch of them all>” Zelena says. The mirror trembles and slowly starts to display an image, Zelena yells at the top of her lungs clasping the mirror with all of her might. The acute, piercing screech is enough to crack the glass of the mirror. “We will see about that?” she says as she prepares to Teleport. Zelena waves her wand above her head, while clinching her teeth in anger she says the incantation “Intera Telep Su Owkson London.” In a puff of green smoke she disappears.

Bellatrix bella wakes up unaware of her surroundings. She twists her wrist and gasps at the sight of her fully formed body. She can sense that someone else is with her so she let’s out a maniacal laugh “I guess I should say thank you, but you have no idea what you have just resurrected” she says. Zelena walks in front of her opponent, “No need to worry, you’ll be gone again soon enough!” she smirks. Zelena stares in envy of Bellatrix “pfft I can hardly believe that you are the are powerful witch, you look kind of mad.” Zelena says. Bellatrix rises with wand in hand, never breaking the gaze of her opponent. Zelena is waiting for a reply, yet there’s not one on the way. Bellatrix’s right arm shakes and Zelena looks into her eyes feeling something that she never has before… Fear.  The feral appearance of Bellatrix as she cracks her neck resembling a wild beast has the hairs on Zelena’s head standing on in. “And you smell like a muggle, this will indeed be fun.” Bellatrix says. Before Zelena knows it burst of magical energy is thrusting her towards a tree.

Zelena concentrates and pivots forward shooting fire towards her ghastly opponent. She follows the fire up with a spell to immobilize Bellatrix’s magical ability. REBECCA MADER With her competition restrained she gets closer “that was too easy” she laughs. Bellatrix laughs with her but quickly that laugh turns into another intense stare. Creeped out Zelena knows its time to end this, she lights a fire under Bellatrix and walks away. When she turns to have one last glance, she falls to the floor. Bellatrix had escaped! The last thing Zelena sees is the crashing of a wave unto the ground where she fell. It’s all too cliche’ yet the only words she could mutter were “I’m melting, I’m melting.” Bellatrix, soaring above her bella1 directs her wand towards the defeated witch and ignites a spell to combust Zelena. “The least I could do for the woman who resurrected me would be to put her out of her misery. Now where’s that Potter! We have unfinished business.”

Hidden Treasures 2: Nerve

Hiya readers and friends! This week’s installment of Hidden Treasures will touch on a movie that I rarely hear anything about; Nerve. Just a quick recap, the Hidden Treasures post will go over a movie, show or video game that I believe more people should be watching. Every Monday I will highlight this “Hidden Treasure” and open up the floor for discussion or recommendations. Let’s jump into the movie!

Nerve is the story of an over achiever named Vee . nerve-pic1 The story takes place during Vee’s senior year of high school when she is debating on going to college close to home or going out on a limb and going to an art school across the country. Vee is the normal protagonist character who does whatever she is told and never commits to anything outside of her comfort zone. One day her best friend tells her to live a little and sign up for a virtual truth or dare game called Nerve. Vee was originally going to sign up as a “Watcher” who pays to watch the “Players” perform outrageous dares. The incentive for the “Players” in performing the user suggested dares is simple, they receive money for each dare completed.

The movie takes a turn when Vee gets upset and switches her status to Player mode. This is where the action picks up as the timid Vee begins to peel out of her comfort zone and perform for the watchers.  nerve2-opt She is also paired up with a partner for most of her dares courtesy of the “watchers” whose name is Ian. Ian does his best to continue pushing Vee to perform the dares as his completion becomes dependent on her.The dares grow significantly harder and turns this high school drama into an all out thriller movie.

I think that Nerve is a pretty good movie to watch because it shifts from a cheesy High School movie to an entertaining series of events. Yes, most of the scenes will be predictable but its a new concept on a classic Truth or Dare game. I can say that the ending scenes did catch me by surprise. Stop by Redbox and check out Nerve, this week’s pick for an overlooked movie. The question is are you going to be a Watcher or Player?

I triple, dog dare you! 😉
