12 Days of Christmas Day 9: Holiday Game Night!

Happy Friday Novas,  Players and Superstars! We are holding on strong with the Creative Christmas Collaboration posts set up by Kim from Later Levels! If you have been reading our previous posts, you know the drill but for anyone new to the post and the blog, you can view the official rules and participate in the remaining days of the challenge by clicking here!

Today’s Topic….

The presents have been opened and dinner has been eaten, so you’ve got a bit of time for gaming while Gran is snoozing on the sofa. What’s the best video game to play during the holidays?

This is an easy one. I loveeeeee playing Mario Party or Mario Kart during the Holidays! The multiplayer Mario games are a great way to get both children and adult gamers involved after dinner.

mario kart
King Boo!

This past Christmas we played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before and after dinner at my aunt’s house. My cousins and I traded off the Switch controllers to play the Grand Prix (I won with orange Yoshi! ) and battle modes. My youngest cousin is 12 years old and she was having a blast playing as Toadette with us adults! Yoshi has always been one of my favorite characters (along with Daisy) to use in the Mario Franchise games. In Mario Kart, Yoshi is normally a mid range, flexible character which pretty much means he has great handling (smooth moves) and average speed. He’s a great all around character and his sharp turns can help you avoid the dreaded red and green shells being launched in your direction.

Mario Party is another game that we have played on Christmas in the past.

mario_party_the_top_100_collage_1280.png

The ability to play with up to 4 people and play mini games is a great way to keep the party going all night long. I always tend to use characters like Yoshi or Daisy to stick it to the competition. One of my favorite Mario Party games of all times is a game from the original Mario Party game called Cast Aways! In the Cast Aways game everyone stands on an island with a fishing pole and a roulette of Coins, Money Bags and Treasure Chests float by. Your goal is to catch the most money! The Coins were worth 1, Money Bags are worth 5 and Treasure Chests are worth 10 points! I’ve never been beaten in this game mode :), challenge me when I get a switch if that game mode is on the newest installment!

Shy Guy Says is another iconic mini game. Shy Guy Says is the Mario and Friends version of Simon Says. Shy Guy is the captain of a ship and all players are the shipmates, mateys if you will. Shy Guy will raise either a red or white flag. Your job is the hit the button to the corresponding flag. If you are caught holding the incorrect flag, you WALK THE PLANK! Shy Guy is not so shy when he is forcing overboard. The game continues until there is 1 player left. Shy Guy says is a classic mini game.

12 Days of Christmas Day 8: Gaming Menu!

Happy Thursday Players! We are holding on strong with the Creative Christmas Collaboration posts set up by Kim from Later Levels! If you have been reading our previous posts, you know the drill but for anyone new to the post and the blog, you can view the official rules and participate in the remaining days of the challenge by clicking here!

Today’s Topic…

It’s now time to head out to the kitchen to put on your oven gloves and start preparing Christmas dinner. It consists solely of video game food; what’s on the menu?

Christmas dinner is going to be filled with awesome Holiday and Festive food. We have set up 2 tables, one for the adults and the other for the children that are staying with us. Let’s check out the children’s table first!

We set up the Paper Mario and Minecraft crafting services on the Children’s buffet area. Here they are able to make their own recipes such as Minecraft Cake. The child goes up to the buffett table and select the recipe of their choice… Cake! Next they select the items needed to craft the recipe for the cake we need 1 large Egg, 3 Wheat, 2 Sugar and 3 Pails of Cow Milk!  cake The buffet table starts like a conveyor belt and as each ingredient is ready, the child will press the corresponding button to add each ingredient to the mixture. After all ingredients are added, the super cooker that Santa brought us will bake up the orders in about 10 minutes! The menu will consist of delicacies such as Minecraft Cake, Pumpkin Pie and more!

For the adults we have a few awesome items available for appetizers and beverages! Yoshi has been out in the Mushroom Kingdom picking apples all day! The apples provided will be mixed into an adult apple cider with a touch of alcohol to make it pop! Other festive beverages will be Nuka Cola from Fallout and Juggar Nog (our liquid courage recipe) from Call of Duty Zombies juggar that gives all of our guests a buff in strength. The Anime Avatar  Chibis dropped by with some treats from the Sky Islands Resort such as the Luxury Champagne and Fried Egg Curry dishes.

For dinner, we had the Grilled Steaks and Chicken, courtesy of our Flame 1 Diamond Sword brought over this morning by “Steve!” Sure it seemed a bit cruel seeing Moomers (the cows) and the chicken duck thing getting sliced and fried all in one swing, but the char on the meats were sublime! Since it’s the Holidays, we let the Creeper down the street join us for dinner

creeper
Pssssss…. Am I late?

but his Enderman friend was a bit sketch especially when he grabbed a minecraft wrapped present from underneath the tree!

Is that yours?

I think the meal came together very well with the different video game dishes!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 6, A Gift for Santa!

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays Reindeers and Snowflakes! We are coming up on a week of Festive Holiday posts in the 12 Days of Christmas: Gamer’s Edition event hosted by Kim over at Later Levels! A quick update, Kim was lovely enough to give us a few days off from the collaboration post so that we can enjoy time with family and friends. With that said, this will be the last post until Wednesday, December 27th! Take this time to enjoy each other and if you need to catch up on our first 5 posts, the links will be posted below. Don’t forget about the other Reindeers taking part in the festive fun! I will include a few of their links in the remaining posts as well. Head on over to the Workshop at Later Levels for official rules if you would like to participate!

Today’s Topic is…..

You’re woken from your drunken haze by another frantic call from Santa, who’s worried he’s not going to make all his deliveries in time. Which video game item or vehicle would you recommend for him?

Awesome! We’re helping Santa deliver the presents. I meannnn I have already posted on a great character that can assist Santa and even do a better job than Santa on December’s Question of the Month. Check out the video game character that could step in and take Santa’s place if her were ever abducted or missing!

So I have been playing Final Fantasy XIV Online lately and the game is very fun. In most MMO and RPG games, there is a teleportation system of some sort. In FFXIV, you teleport by Aether Stones placed in every region of the game. aether

Pros:

  1. Santa can quickly evaporate and reappear in a designated area of the world within an instant!

Cons:

  • Aether Stones are not free. You have to pay gil (in game currency) to travel and depending on your location, you may be spending 500+ gil to teleport each time.
  • You can only teleport to Aether Stones that you have already attuned. Which means you would have had to visit the area that you are traveling to. This can be difficult as new residential areas are being developed/.
  • Has anyone really done the research on these Aether Stones? I would be afraid that too much teleporting would burn out my brain cells or something. That can’t be good for their bone density? Just Saying!

Sooo that was my cheeky answer but not my real response. While the use of Aether Stones would be easy, it can start racking up like taking a toll roll. Santa would have to start charging premiums for areas that are farther from the North Pole. I mean the man works on COOKIES! There’s no way that Santa can pay the travel cost and I’m sure that the whole “Ho, Ho, Ho I’m Santa Claus” thing can only get him free travel so many times. “Merry Christmas to you too St. Nick… that’ll be 234 gil please!”

My response has more holes in it than swiss cheese, but it’s funny so why not? I would recommend that Santa uses DeRagen ( a boss dragon from Phantasy Star Universe) DeRagan-2 or the Dragon from Skyrim to help make his deliveries! Think about it, a dragon is an excellent means of transportation AND they’re super long so they will have plenty of space to hold the presents. I figure the dragon’s scales can be rigged up like a pirate ship, with rope ties so that Santa can drop the presents in the Chimney. Also, I figure not many children these days are getting great gifts so Santa will have an UNLIMITED supply of COAL! He can throw branches for the dragons to burn and the resulting charcoal will fall in the place of the gifts. It’s full proof!

**No Dragons were harmed in the making of this post!**

12 Days of Christmas: Gaming Edition! Day 5: Cheeky Kiss!

Happy Holidays Players! Today is day number 5 for the Creative Christmas Gaming Collaboration hosted by our friend Kim over at Later Levels! The rules are simple, post your response to the questions designated for each day and share the Holiday fun with the blog-o-sphere! Make sure to check out posts from our friends participating as well! Want to join in on the fun and spread your holiday cheer? Check out the rules here!

Today’s topic is…

The party is still going strong and you find yourself conveniently positioned under the mistletoe. Which video game character would you call over for a cheeky kiss?

This is a no brainer for me. Everyone knows of the iconic WWE 2K18 game right? I would call over the cover Superstar, none other than my husband SETH FREAKIN’ ROLLINS!

I mean of course he would be the character that I would call over, but since that was a bit of a cheap answer, I will also provide another.

Scorpion from Mortal Kombat would be a great choice. I have always been a Scorpion fan to a bit of a mild obsession with the character back in my youth. Here’s how it would go down:

Mario has invited all of the video game characters over to the Mushroom Kingdom and Peach’s Castle for his annual Holiday Party! This time, chosen gamers were on the guest list and yours truly received an E-vite!  mario  This was it, my chance to finally meet some of my heroes (and Villains :P) from my childhood and let’s face it adulthood as well.  I’ve decided on wearing a nice little gamer dress to show appreciation for the Mushroom Kingdom and hopefully score cool kid points from my host.

gamer dress
Snazzy right?

Right on schedule a warp pipe arrived at 6:00pm on the dot and it was time for me to take my leave of the world for 1 night. I quickly hopped in the pipe and was off to the party.

warp pipe

The warp pipe dropped my gently at the front door of Peach’s Royal Castle. I wonder if her husband Bowser will drop by and “‘kidnap” her for the night lol. This definitely seems like a night where the 2 lovers can escape unnoticed. I reached out and pressed the Star shaped doorbell and was greeted by Toad and Yoshi! Instantly I gave him a hug and presented my invitation to the festivities. Toad bowed to me and escorted me inside.

toad

The guest list was top notch! I was greeted by characters like Sonic, Cayde-6 from Destiny 2, Vegeta and Trunks and many more characters that I have come to know and love. There’s was a great spread of food on the table so I strutted on over and grabbed a few cookies. Right as I was getting ready to pour a glass of eggnog, I caught a glimpse of Scorpion in the corner. He was staring at me… I think. Frantically a looked behind me because surely he was looking at someone else. But no one was around me. I flashed scorpion a flirty smile and took a sip of the eggnog, ughhh Wario spiked it, not bad though. Before I could make a move I hear the echo of “Get Over Here” and scorpion pulls me close.

Lakitu, always the stalker… eww well journalist,  lakitu flies over us and a string of mistletoe hovers. I shrug my shoulders and kiss scorpion on the cheek. The rest of the night I mingled with the absolute best in gaming, but one thing crossed my mind. I didn’t see Peach or Bowser the entire night. Guess it was a Happy Holiday for all parties involved!

12 Days of Christmas Day 4: Video Game Soundtracks!

Happy Holidays Players! We are celebrating the 12 days of Christmas with our blogging buddies over at Later Levels! This month we will all post answers to the questions in our Christmas Collaboration on select days! The rules are simple, post your response to the questions designated for each day and share the Holiday fun with the blog-o-sphere! Make sure to check out posts from our friends participating as well! Want to join in on the fun and spread your holiday cheer? Check out the rules here!

Today’s question is…

It’s now Christmas Eve and you’re throwing a lively party for all your friends, family and favorite characters. Which video game soundtracks would be on your playlist?

The very first video game song that would be on my playlist is City Escape from the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Game.

Even though I have not played Kingdom Hearts, one song has stuck with me. The My Sanctuary song would most definitely be on my playlist.

I would add the Super Mario 64 Soundtrack for sure to my playlist. There were so many great songs included in that Nintendo 64 game! You can read my fascination with the Nintendo 64 by clicking here!

I love that some video games like the Lion King or Aladdin games have the music from the movies on the soundtrack. I remember playing as young Simba rummaging around Pride Rock while “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” played in the background. I would probably add soundtracks from those 2 games along with The Little Mermaid! From the current games I am playing Final Fantasy XIV (First Impressions Post coming soon) and they have a great soundtrack so far.

12 Days of Christmas Day 3: Santa’s Video Game Helper!

Happy Holidays Players! We are celebrating 12 days of Christmas with our blogging buddies over at Later Levels! This month we will all post answers to the questions in a very gaming Christmas Collaboration on select days! The rules are simple, post your response to the questions designated for each day and share the Holiday fun with the blog-o-sphere! Today’s question is…

You receive a call from Santa, as the elves desperately need a hand in the workshop getting all the toys ready. Which video game character would you recruit to help out?

After mulling it over in my hand I have decided to select ClapTrap from borderlands! Claptrap is a robot that assists your character in your missions. Claptrap is funny and handy as he has just about everything one would need in a workshop. Looking for a tool? Claptrap’s got it! Need schematics to assemble a toy? Claptrap’s got it!

claptrap
Borderlands Wiki

Claptrap is a CL4P-TP general purpose robot manufactured by Hyperion. It has been programmed with an over enthusiastic personality, and brags frequently, yet also expresses severe loneliness and cowardice.

Thinking about it further,  I have also decided to select Miles “Tails” Prower from the Sonic the Hedgehog Series! Oh did you forget  that Tails is a whiz at building? Sure he focuses more on electronics but what kids do you know who are NOT asking for electronics for the holidays? Tails is very smart and will be able to assist the elves in putting together and fixing all sorts of modern items. He can work in tandem with Claptrap by building the electronics (tablets, gaming consoles, Nintendo DS) from the schematics that Claptrap has provided. I know that with either of these video game helpers, Santa and the elves will be able to make their deliveries with all of the toys on the list! Moreover, having both Tails and Claptrap is a recipe for success and the elves will be able to have a well deserved cup of hot cocoa before Santa leaves!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 2 Favorite Gaming Memory!

Happy Holidays Players! Today is day numbre 2 for the Creative Christmas Gaming Collaboration hosted by our friend Kim over at Later Levels! The rules are simple, post your response to the questions designated for each day and share the Holiday fun with the blog-o-sphere! Make sure to check out posts from our friends participating as well! Want to join in on the fun and spread your holiday cheer? Check out the rules here!

Today’s Topic: 20 December 2017:

You’re wrapping presents while listening to cheesy festive tunes, and start to reminisce about holidays past. What’s your favourite Christmas gaming memory?

Up on the Rooftop, Reindeer paws,

Out jumps good ol’ Santa Claus,

Down through the chimney with lots of toys,

All for the little ones, Christmas Joys!

If you couldn’t tell, I would be listening to the older Christmas tunes from my childhood. I would most likely have put together a mega mix that included Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, All I want for Christmas and The Ghetto Christmas List (don’t ask lol).

One of my favorite Christmas Gaming Memories would be when we received our Sega Genesis!

Growing up, my brother and I lived with my grandmother and everyone would come over for the Holidays. My cousins loved being at our house because we always had video game systems that we could all take turns playing. One year, I remember us receiving the Sega Genesis and it was awesome! Would would go outside and play around the yard and when the sun went down it was time to game!

Some of the games we would play are Sonic games and most importantly Mortal Kombat! One Christmas we hosted a series of Mortal Kombat Tournaments in which we would play rock, paper scissors to determine which 2 gamers would start the tournament. The rules were simple, Win and you play the next challenger, Lose and you’re passing the controller to the next gamer to try their luck. I have never been a great “Fighting Game” gamer but I could luckily win a a few rounds (so I spammed kicks, I was young haha).

My favorite sequence on the controller was the infamous back, back, forward A, combination. I’m not sure what it did, but I was able to break a combo or mess someone’s face up and it was hilarious.

We would go eat snacks that my grandma would cook and that night we asked if our cousins could stay the night. We played games all night and fell asleep with the controllers in our hands! It was one of my favorite gaming memories of all time!

19 December 2017:   You need to choose a gift for someone special and go online to check out the video game item catalogue. Who is this person and what present would you select for them?

Remember my friend Emily from a few other blog posts (She Also Made The Featured Image!)?

She has become one of my best friends in the past year and something that we share is our love of video games! Shopping for a video game for Emily will consists of 3 crucial elements: Action, Gore and Zombies! Emily’s favorite games are ones where she has to battle through zombies, aliens or otherworldly beings with only her survival instincts and the resources that she can scavenge. I will be looking for something similar to Resident Evil, but since she buys every Resident Evil game in advance, I would want to select another title.

Something I would take into account is the scary factor of the game! Emily loves to be scared and if a “Horror” classified game doesn’t make her jump off of her cat food box (she doesn’t use a chair lol) it’s not worth playing for her. I would look online for reviews and indie games that are meant to be scary.

If I were picking out a video game today for Emily. I would choose… Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice or Dollhouse, both on PS4.

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice:  hellblade  From the makers of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry, comes a warrior’s brutal journey into myth and madness.Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover.

Dollhouse:  dollhouse  Dive deep into a sinister world with Dollhouse for PS4. Choose one of 14 characters and eviscerate or retain memories to build the game’s storyline, using its Anamorph features to see through the eyes of your stalker as you fight to stay alive. Influenced by 1950s film noir and packed with horror-themed elements, Dollhouse is both immersive and beautiful.

These 2 games stick out to me as perfect gifts. Hellblade is a great game that merges puzzles and action into a psychological thriller that Emily would get enjoyment out of. While Dollhouse takes on the creepy vibe of paranormal proportions! I believe she would love both of these games and get hours of enjoyment out of them!

Thank you for reading today’s Holiday Collaboration post! Don’t forget to check out our friend’s blogs each day to see if they have answered the question as well! Tomorrow we will talk about our Favorite Christmas Video Game Memory!  What video game would you choose for a friend and why? Let’s talk, gift giving!

Rollerblade Pro Mobile Game Review!

Power up players for our mobile game review of Rollerblade Pro! This review is a bit overdue as I received the request from Gerry early in November. Now that I am free from the NaNoWriMo challenge, I am able to catch up on blogging and game requests.

Publisher: Saturn Games

Platforms: Android

Genre: Arcade

Description: Rollerblade through the street and tunnel to prove your rollerblading skills by attaining high scores and collecting coins.Skate for long without being killed by obstacles and become a pro, by ending the game !!! Use in game skills to dodge obstacles, like jet pack to fly high, and slow speed to slow down your skate speed, or double jump to dodge higher, obstacles.

Gameplay: Rollerblade Pro is a cool arcade style game in which your ultimate goal is to become a Rollerblade pro by ending the game! Play by swiping left and right on your screens in order to collect rings and dodge obstacles in your path. These obstacles can come in the for or cars, roadblocks and even stop signs! You will receive power ups such as super jump that can assist in helping you navigate the streets on your rollerblades, but beware, once used you cannot control the direction of your power ups.

Visuals & Sounds: The graphics are standard in this game and the controls are simple to use. I really enjoy the music associated with this game as it makes me feel like I’m about to watch a competitive rollerblader go to work! roller1

Difficulty: There is some skill and a learning curve associated with this game. I have to admit, I have not beat the game yet, but I’m determined to make that happen soon.

Areas of Improvement: The game was fun to review but I do have a few points of feedback for the developer to make the game more appealing and attractive. This is just my personal opinion and preference.

  • View – I found the game a bit difficult to play because the avatar that you use blocks most of the street in front of you. Maybe position the camera a bit higher or shrinking the avatar a bit would fix the problem.
  • Predictability – After playing the game a few times, I notice that I was memorizing the pattern of when a car would come or how many roadblocks were up. Maybe adding a bit more variety would assist.

Final Thoughts: I did enjoy playing and reviewing the game Rollerblade Pro. The easy controls of swiping left to right allowed me to collect rings and attempt to dodge oncoming traffic! There were a few areas of improvement that I would like to see implemented in the game in the future, but it is entirely my opinion on what would have made me enjoy the game more.

If you want to test out the game and become a RollderbladPro, the contact and download information is below:

November Recap & December Goals!

Happy Sunday Players! November was a great month for me in a personal sense, but let’s see what has happened on the blog!

Surprisingly, we published 24 posts in the month of November! I was participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge all month, so I was not as active as I have been due to the challenge. Yet somehow between myself and our contributors we still had a decent number of posts!

We have 1064 Views, 668 visitors and 316 likes!

November Goals

  • Complete NaNoWriMo – Since we are in the month of November, I have been working on the NaNoWriMo challenge and my personal goal is to complete it!
  • 1 Steam Game Review  I have a few steam games that I have yet to play so I look to play them and write up a review this month (Thank you Thero159 for Offworld Trading Company and Amello!).
  • Post at least 3 times per week – The blog activity may not be as frequent as previous months because I’m focusing on NaNoWriMo, but I will try to have at least 3 posts per week for the month of November.

Ach2

The only achievement that we earned last month was the one for Completing NaNoWriMo! The novel is about 51,000 words (I’ve been editing it) and it is a Young Adult, period drama series.

December Goals:

  • Complete a Steam Game Review!
  • Set up the GamesUnitedGG YouTube Channel!
  • Launch a community Guest Blog Challenge!
  • Set up the GamersUnitedGG Podcast

snow

Those are my goals for December! As you can see it’s a lot of prep work for our anniversary in January and the launching of extensions to the blog!

Here are our top  posts from the month of November!

  1. Creating a Compelling RPG Villain
  2. Wooden Block Puzzle Mobile Game Review
  3. NaNoWriMo Update & Excerpt #2
