GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition & The Winner is…

Happy Wednesday! It’s been a great (& busy) month to start off the year and our GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition comes to a close today. We have had 3 awesome participants building their own video game and I think that the responses were fantastic in each instance. At the end of Week 2 we had a tie for 1st place between Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie and Daniel from Home Button. Flying Colours has been a great participant and mathematically locked in the 3rd Place prize. Let’s analyze each of the 3 participant’s video games and award the final points to determine the winner.

Flying Colours was the first participant and took a different path than the other 2. Colours placed their responses in the comments of each prompt and came up with a video game that I think is a superhero adventure. The main character was tall, dark and handsome with awesome abilities like flying (I see what you did there) and mind reading. In week 2 we meet a villain that is obsessed with power and control.

Pix1001 really piqued my interest the first week with the main character Osha that I really liked. Osha is a nerdy girl that wants to save the planet, not just it’s inhabitants, but the environment as well. Pix provided a very detailed description of the main character and the description was vivid enough to paint a picture in my head which was awesome! In week 2 Osha’s nemesis and the main villain of the gain was a political mastermind called Mira. Mira is an extremely intelligent villain that did not always start out as an evil mastermind. Mira seems to have become jaded with the way people in the world are and is planning to destroy everything and use the presious resources of the planet to escape to another world. A great villain is relatable and has a story that draws you in and feel as if Mira exemplifies those characteristics. Going into the final week I was questioning how battling would work but Pix delivered! She answered that in her week 3 response with the party battle system. We find out that the game takes place on a planet called Gaia and that you are playing a JRPG game.  The game will launch as a Nintendo Switch Exclusive.

To Pix: “You set distinct goals and it made sense. I loved the dialogue inclusion in your game. Some of the best games have sassy one liners or undercutting remarks that make the game smirk a little. Having your characters make colorful remarks is almost synonmous with Nintendo. I fell in love with your main character and most of your game mesh elements mesh together very well.”

Daniel took yet another approach from the other 2 Players by starting his posts as a dossier or FBI type rundown. I immediately envisioned the voice from unsolved mysteries in the opening package to the game running down the file on Jin Usagi while the typewriter sound plays in the back. In week 1 we are privy to the confidential file of the truth tellers who we find out later are actually the villains. Jin is a man with considerable skill and was apart of the title organization known as Full Arsenal or F.A. In week 2 we get a glimpse of the organization and some of their members from a Truthers perspective. It’s a Suicide Squad type of feel where the government or people in power put together a band of rogues and mercenariess to form a special task team. But of course, being self aware the team realized that they could go out on their own and didn’t need bosses. In the final week Full Arsenal is unveiled at E3 2020 and the trailers along with the developers talk about how the game will function. It’s an open world, choice driven game that will launch on PS4 and Xbox One.

To Daniel: ” Your premise and your methods of delivering your game each week was exciting and a great read. Your character, plot and villains are all outstanding and I can see the game vividly in my head. I really like the choice driven aspect and the option to kill your enemy and take pieces of their armor or spare them and possibly turn them to your side. This element would be cool in many games today.”

All 3 Participants did an amazing job with their video games and thank you for participating. Here’s a reminder of the prizes:

Rewards:

  1.  1st Place will receive a large Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  2. 2nd Place will receive a small Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  3. 3rd Place will receive a giftcard!

And the Winner of the GamersUnitedGG competition is…

winner

Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie!

Congratulations to all 3 Players in the competition! I will reach out to each of you individually so that I can send your rewards. Don’t forget to give them a follow if you enjoy their blogs! I think we will host blogging competitions each quarter so make sure to join us again in April! Have a fantastic Wednesday!

Luna’s Rankings: Favorite Arcade Games!

Power up Players for today’s Rankings Post! Each Tuesday I will ranks games, shows, series, etc and list my favorites in the genre from 5th place to 1st place. After my post I will open up the comments for everyone to rank their favorites and the following week I will post the “Community Rankings” from the previous week’s Rankings post.

Community Rankings from Our Favorite Game of Thrones Characters:

  1. Daenerys Targaryen
  2. Tyrion Lannister
  3. Arya Stark
  4. Brienne of Tarth
  5. Jon Snow

This week we will be ranking: Our Favorite Arcade Games!

#5 Big Buck Hunter –

bigbuck

You can’t go to an arcade without playing some sort of shooter right? My go to shooter will always be the Bick Buck Hunter game. You remember it right? The one with the giant orange hunting rifle sticking out the side lol. I would get this game and go to the hunting fields. My brother Kenny and I would take turns trying to shoot the most deer and I have so many fond memories.

#4 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucking –

18wheeler

A driving game where I can play as a semi truck and run over anything in my tracks, yes please! Any time I would see the giant machine that was shaped like a truck empty. I would hop in put in my coins and get to driving. My favorite features are the giant steering wheels and gas pedals (because who needs brakes when you are literally a Transformer!!).

#3 Tekken –

tekken

Tekken was definitely a staple in arcade games growing up. Each week we spent a few hours at the laundromat while my grandmother washed our comforters and she would get extra quarters so that Kenny and I could play the arcade games. Tekken was always at my laundromat (it’s still there actually) and we would verse each other often. My go to character is King and my brothers is Eddie Gordo. I was never a great Tekken player, but my brother couldn’t touch me in Street Fighter with Chun-Li!

#2 Snocross –

snocross1

Snocross is a racing game where you get to ride on the back of a snowmobile. This game is fantastic because you have to lean on the snowmobile left and right to assist in turning your vehicle. I loved hitting tricks, getting boosters and bumping into other racers, whatever I could do to become first in the circuit. I like Snocross more than the other motorcycle racing games because the vehicles were easier to control and who wants to race on a road or highway when you can jump off mountains?

#1 Galaga –

galaga

Galaga was another arcade game in the laundromat on Saturdays. There’s something about the old shoot the spaceships and dodge objects game that has always drew me in. You have to have coordination to bob and weave and shoot all of the objects in your way. I’m not sure why Galaga is my favorite arcade game because it’s not a hard or unique concept. All I can say is that my eyes still light up when I see the game in the corner.

Those are my rankings for favorite arcade games (I’ve left out the more interactive games like Dance Dance Revolution and Skee Ball for another week) and I want to know your top 5! Think back to physically going into an arcade, which games caught your eye? Let’s talk arcade games! Don’t forget, tomorrow the winner of the GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition will be announced!

  1.  1st Place will receive a large Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  2. 2nd Place will receive a small Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  3. 3rd Place will receive a giftcard!

Challenge Prompt:

Week 2: January 15th – January 22ndA great video game would be nothing without a compelling villain, who is this villain and what is their goal?

Participants:

Flying Colours answered first this week with a monstrous villain who wants to be king. He takes from the poor and crushes anyone who is weak. I like this villain and I can see him in 2 ways. First being a literal monster with sharp claws, slimy skin and being tall. His character would be something like Bowser (whom I love and I promise the Memoirs of a Villain post will be up soon). Bowser King of the Koopas and ready to do what’s necessary to stay in power. I can also see the character being a mortal man who’s appearance is not known, so the townspeople make him into a beast!

Daniel from Home Button struck next with his gang of Villains and title titans Full Arsenal. His villains are a group of mercenaries put together to assist in a government crisis. But you know how that turned out right? F.A ended up drinking in power and realizing that they do not have to answer to anyone, they are super skilled and well funded enough to do what they want. Suicide-Squadblu-12132016 I think of the Suicide Squad when I think about Full Arsenal, but more hi-tech based. The Suicide Squad is a gang of villains put together to help save the world… but I mean, what do they get out it? Total Chaos!

Pix1001 came up the political plunderer Mira as her villain! she’s described as having “… long violet hair, a short-sword tucked into her floor length cape and a devious look in her eyes.”  Mira seems really intelligent so I can see her being a huge problem for anyone who crosses her. She is planning to destroy everyone and everything that Earth is and she may just get what she wants! raven The cape and dark hair reminds me of Raven from Teen Titan. Mira sounds like a great villain!

Thank you again to all 3 participants in this week challenge! Now let’s award the points for week 2 and don’t forget to click on their links to read each participants’ response!

3rd Place receiving 5 Points – Flying Colours!Your monsterous villain seems like he would work well against your main character! Read their entry here!

1st Play receiving 10 points-Daniel from Home ButtonI really enjoyed your entry and the villains sound super cool. I love the idea of a team of rogues doing what they want. Read his entry here!

GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition: Week 1 Standings!

Happy Wednesday and Power up Players for the GamersunitedGG Blogging Competition Week 1 standings! The blogging competition is going well and I encourage everyone interested to participate! Today we will award the points for Week 1’s prompt. Let’s take a look at the rules:

Game Guide:

  • Each week there will be a topic that you will write about (the prompt posts will be released each Monday at 11:30am EST). This is a 3 week competition!
  • On the designated due date all entries must be posted (you can post anytime before the due date). Submissions after the due date will be reviewed but not submitted for the challenge that week.
  • Make sure to link back to the prompt post (This Post) each week and place a link to your submission post in the comments section.
  • Each week the top 3 posts will receive 10, 7 or 5 points. All other participants will receive 3 points. At the end of the 3rd week, the participant with the most points wins (There will be 3 Winners).

Rewards:

  1.  1st Place will receive a large Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  2. 2nd Place will receive a small Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  3. 3rd Place will receive a giftcard!

Challenge Prompt:

  • Week 1: January 8- January 15thYou’re designing a video game and the main character needs to be created. Describe your main character. What 3 power ups or abilities would you choose for the character and why?

Participants:

Flying Colours was the first participant to strike with the blue eyed, handsome male character who could fly!

superman
I think of a Superman type character!

I can see this character being a sort of Superhero in the video game and the added twist of him being able to transform into different people and read their minds backs up my assumption! I really enjoy comics and Superheros so I was excited about what a game with this character would entail.

Pix1001 from Shoot The Rookie came in to save the day with a tree hugging, environment saving, seemingly high angst character called Osha!

splatoon
I think of a cartoonish type character!

Aside from the cool name, Osha’s desription of the  “Torn jeans with big pockets for carrying stuff, short spiky hair and a T-shirt with a picture of her favourite bird on it” reminds me of a teen or young adult character that resembles a character from Splatoon! I can picture big animated features and I rebellious personality.  Pix did a fantatsic job of describing the abilities of Osha and I felt that Invincibility, Haste and Healing matched the character’s personality very well (I mean healing can do wonders for saving the planet!).

Daniel from Home Button was the final level in week 1’s submission and boy did he not disappoint! I really enjoyed Daniel running down the details of his character Jin Usagi in a sort of Dossier, FBI’s Most Wanted kind of fashion.

genji
I think of a Ninja type character!

Off the back I felt as if I were reading crime-fighting, assassin type game.  Jin is a trained killer (or so we believe) and he is “driven by honor, duty and loyalty” which makes him exceptionally charismatic. Daniel’s video game seems a bit darker and reminds me of the games like Metal Gear Solid or L.A Noire. I love how the main character is essentially on the run and portrayed as a high priority target.

All three entrants developed fantasic characters for their games and I can automatically visualize what each character might look like. Now let’s award the points for week one and don’t forget to clik on the links to read each participants’ response!

3rd Place receiving 5 Points – Flying Colours! While I enjoyed and could picture your character the other entrants gave a bit more detail and a name. Read Entry Here!

2nd Place receiving 7 points – Daniel from Home Button! Your entry was really well done and I love the premise! Read Entry Here!

1st Play receiving 10 points – Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie! I reallyyyy enjoyed your entry and the character profile. Your chracter makes me want to play the game immediately without knowing any other details! Read Entry Here!

Thank you for everyone that participated this week! Week 2’s prompt is live and I encourage everyone to enter! Remember, you can still enter week 1 and will receive the 3 Points for participation. The top 3 players with the most points at the end of Week 3 will receive the prizes! Check out week 1 and the official rules by clicking here!

What did you think of the competition on week 1? Who are your favorites and which character did you like the best? Submissions due next Wednesday 1/24/18 for Week 2 which is the Villain of your game!

12 Days of Christmas Day 11: Video Game Resolutions!

Happy New Year’s Eve Players! We have 1 day left in 2018 and 2 days left in the Christmas Collaboration event hosted by Kim over at Later Levels! I have no idea where the year has gone, but it has been a great rollercoaster of a time and I appreciate everyone who has followed us throughout the year! To show our appreciation, we will be hosting a mystery box giveaway on the blog next month to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. More on that will come on Tuesday when we go over our recap for the year and our goals for 2018. Now the rules are simple, answer the designated questions on the days assigned and have fun! You can view the official rules and participate in the remaining 2 days of the challenge by clicking here!

Today’s Topic:

Midnight rolls around and it’s time to pick a New Year gaming resolution to see you through the next 12 months. What’s your choice for 2018?

new

I have increased my amount of gaming this year, but I have to admit there are some goals that I have been wanting to fulfill.

  1. Buy A Nintendo Switch– I have been wanting a switch all year but have not purchased one as of yet. This is a goal that I have for 2018
  2. Streaming & YouTube – My friends are a very eclectic bunch and we run into the most hilarious situations when we play together. I want to share my love for gaming and our hilarious situations with the world. To do this, I need to purchase a camera and a capture card to have the best quality.
  3. Buy More Games – I haven’t bought as many games as I had in previous years of my life. I want to pre-order and purchase at least 5 games in 2018. One game that I am looking forward to is Red Dead Redemption 2 (please release soon lol) as it was announced 2 years ago, yet we are still waiting for the game to fully release. Hopefully this means that Rockstar is enhancing the game and it will launch without a glitch!
  4. Find More Time for Video Games – My last gaming goal of 2018 is to find more time to enjoy what I love to do so much. Right now my schedule with work and life in general gets in the way of me having ample time to play, but I’m starting to find gaps in my schedule that lets me enjoy the escape of video games. I aim to continue this process throughout the New Year!

gaming new year

Those are my gaming resolutions and goals for 2018! Which games are you looking forward to in 2018? Do you have any gaming resolutions for the year? Let’s talk video games!

12 Days of Christmas Day 10: Gaming Closet Raid!

Happy Saturday Players! We are nearing the end of the Creative Christmas Collaboration posts set up by Kim from Later Levels! If you have been reading our previous posts, you know the drill but for anyone new to the post and the blog, you can view the official rules and participate in the remaining 2 days of the challenge by clicking here!

Today’s Topic is…

You’ve been invited to a swanky New Year’s Eve party but have nothing suitable to wear! Which video game character do you call to ask if you can borrow an outfit?

This one was a bit harder for me to think about but I did come up with and answer. I think the best answer that comes to mind is an RPG game. In Role Playing games one of the perks and appeals for me is the customization. I want to be able to make my character look, act and behave a certain way. I love being able to visit clothiers and dye shops to enhance my character’s look. Being able to mix and match styles to make an original outfit (until you see someone running around with your same costume on) makes or breaks a game for me and my friend Stephanie. Stephanie or Xsanie, introduces me to cute RPG and Anime games often.  aura  Once anime RPG game that we play is called Aura Kingdom (review coming soon). This game has dye shops and the item mall that you can use to properly dress your avatar. The clothes are bright, brilliant and bold so I would love to warp into the kingdom and select an outfit to use.

If I had to pick a person, Kasumi from Dead or Alive would be a great selection. She wears her altered Kimonos really well and I think they would be a hit for a swanky New Year’s Eve party. The cherry blossom petals, the red and white and the split all the way up her thigh.

My boyfriend probably wouldn’t approve but I’d definitely loved to borrow the outfit from her closet! Maybe drop by and have Chun-Li do me hair lol.

If it was a super formal affair I could ring up Daisy from the Mario games. This is a great idea for a few reasons; Daisy is a Princess so her closest will contain vast outfits for me to wear. A nice, long dress with ruffles seems like a fitting way to bring in the new year. Maybe I can convince Daisy to join me at the party and we can arrive fashionably late with an entrance fit for royalty.   daisy  I can see it now, the royal trumpeters will announce our arrival and we will walk in looking as elegant and as regal as possible. I’m super interested in royals and medieval nobilty that I wouldn’t mind wearing a corset and a puffy dress for an evening. Hopefully no one will trip and spill their drink on me!

Those are some of the choices that I would make for selecting a New Year’s outfit. Which video game character would you ask for help? What type of game clothing would you want to wear? Let’s talk video games!
