Video Game World Cup Submission!

Power up Players for the Video Game World Cup event hosted by Pix1001 over at Shoot the Rookie! Pix looks to create the best video game soccer team to compete against the best athletes and teams competing in the World Cup. I’m not an expert in soccer by any means, but I did play for a season in 10th grade. I’m selecting my characters based off of what I remember from those glorious days of playing Sweeper or Half-back. For my submission, I have selected 4 great characters that many may not have considered as great additions to the team. Let’s start off with one of my star players; Beat from Jet Set Radio!

In the Jet Set Radio games, Beat is the lead character who rollerblades around at ridiculous speeds. His agility, speed and reaction times can greatly assist in scoring. I would put Beat at the Forward or Half-Back Position. This way he can play defense or offense using his speed. Beat has tremendous Power, Above Average Technique and Outstanding Graffitti skills (I mean in case he has to tag someone lol).

My second star player shouldn’t be much of a surprise; Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2.

Shadow is a great pick for his speed, sick moves and determined attitude. Just like with Beat, Shadow would do well as a Forward or Half-Back as he’s not likely to shy away from a rough battle with an opponent. Shadow can also hone the power of a Chaos Emerald to increase all of his abilities and senses. With Shadow, he can out maneuver players, slide through opponents and quickly shift gears to score the goal. Did I mention that Shadow can keep up with Sonic?

We need a great Sweeper to play defense and help out the goalie. My sweeper would be Crash Bandicoot!

Why, you may ask? Remember Crash is use to jumping, sliding and spinning his way through different terrains and obstacles. Crash can use these abilities to block the ball when players are taking a shot at the goal. Even better, Beat can graffiti the soccer ball as one of the fruits from the Crash series and Crash’s motivation will be amplified. It’s full proof! Crash is an excellent sweeper and will greatly help out the only character that I would have in the goal… I’ll give you a hint… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My goalie is none other than the King Koopa himself… BOWSER!

Tell me Bowser wouldn’t be a great goalie? He takes up most of the goal by size alone, he can roar loud enough to change the direction of the ball and have you seen Bowser in Mario Tennis? This big Koopa has moves! He can dive, scratch and claw his way to protecting the goal at all costs. In a shootout situation, Bowser’s intimidation techniques alone will send the soccer players running for the hills. His corner kicks will reach the other side of the field where Shadow and Beat can capitalize and score the goal.

Video Game Challenge: Day 8 – Video Game Pets!

Today’s Question:

What’s your favorite videogame pet?

Riley –

The video game pet that I am selecting comes from the Call of Duty franchise. In Call of Duty Ghosts that released in 20 , you would receive a guard dog to play with who was also included in the story. Riley is her name and she is my favorite video game pet! Riley is loveable, protective and will have your back in any situation, what more could you want from this beautiful German Shepard?

Yoshi-

Yoshi from the Mario series came to mind as an awesome pet. The problem is that I now see Yoshi as more than a companion or dinosaur that you can ride on and force to eat Koopas. With the launch of iconic video games like Mario Party, Mario Golf and Yoshi’s Islands, Yoshi has become a staple playable character. Because he has transcended his role as a mount in the Super Mario Bros. days, Yoshi is no longer considered a pet in my mind.

Chaos –

The Chaos from Sonic Adventure Battle 2 would be a great option for favorite pet. In the game you can visit the Chao Gardens and raise Chaos to be anything you want! It gives a new meaning to the phrase “You can be whatever you want to be!” During missions, each character can collect up to 10 items to bring back to the Chaos Garden. Each item will have buffs in a specific area like strength, swimming and flying. These items increase your Chaos level and you can use them in races or tournaments against other Chaos. You can even send the Chaos to school to learn unique talents. Chaos are awesome and while they are pets, I consider them more like children that each character will raise lol.

Chomp –

One pet that I would love to have is Chomp from the Mario series. Chomp is the giant chained dog that looks like a bowling ball. Can you imagin the amount of protection you would have if Chomp was at your side? He’s fast, strong and dangerous to anyone that’s an enemy. You could also ride Chomp around and have a great day of bonding with your dog.

Video Game 30 Day Challenge: Day 6 – Favorite Games!

What is your favorite game?

I always have a hard time answering these questions because my interest in game change from time to time. So… I have a few games listed that are or have been my favorite at one time or another. Most of these titles may not be a surprise to you

Tropico 5 –

Tropico 5 is probably my current favorite game that I am playing right now. Tropico 5 is a civilization building game where you are the President of a small island. You start in the Colonial Era where you are dependant on a larger country to extend your mandates and provide some financial assistance. You develop your island and progress through the Eras with increasing difficulty. Obstacles you may face are pirates raiding your island, hostiles, drought, disasters, military coups and rebel uprisings just to name a few. You have to balance your leadership with the well being of your people and make money in the process. It’s a great economic tool and you literally control EVERYTHING! Even how much your citizens are making! It’s super fun and super addicting!

Gears of War –

Gears of War has made my list of Favorite Game before. This was one of my first Xbox 360 games and really the first time I engaged in the Online Multiplayer World (aside from Unreal Tournament). Following the Cogs and Locusts in their battle for supremacy, shotgunning enemies, using the torque bow to tag them and watch them explode. It’s gorey, but it’s great! Gears of War will always make my list of “Favorite Games.” I rant more about Gears of War here!

Modern Warfare 2 –

Call of Duty was a passion of mines for a longgggg time. The very first midnight release that I’ve attended was the Modern Warfare 2 release. This is by far my favorite Call of Duty game of all time and of course had to make the list. I rant and rave about this and other COD titles in my Ranking’s Post. Mario Kart –

Mario Kart is a staple in many millenials’ lifetime. The original Mario Kart was fun but my favorite is Mario Kart 64. The Nintendo 64 is probably my favorite console of all time. MArio Kart 64 is sooo much fun and to this day I can play it for hours with my brother and friends. I would use Yoshi or Daisy if Yoshi isn’t available to rain down havok on the other karters. Favorite Stages are Wario Stadium, Bowser’s Castle and Koopa Troopa Beach!

Fable –

I’ve ranted and raved about Fable many, many times. This is one of my favorite video games of all time. I loved the story, decision making system and abilities in this world. You can read more about my times with Fable by clicking here!

Civilization Revolution –

Civ Rev is the strategy game by Sid Meier created for Xbox 360. It was my first experience with the Civilization games and I had so much fun playing it. Funny enough, I started playing the demo with a friend just to pass the time and fell in love with the series. Now I’m playing Civ V and Civ VI on PC and Civ Rev was the starting part in this adventure.

Oblivion-

Finally to round out my favorite games Oblivion has to make the list. Oblivion was one of the 1st single player story games that I was able to play on Xbox 360. I was immersed in the world of Oblivion operating as a member of the Fighter’s Guild, Thieves Guild, Mages Guild and Dark Brotherhood while not losing my standing with any of my comrades. It was a great game and has truly made me appreciate RPG’s.

Video Game Challenge: Day 5- Best Weapons!

Welcome Ladies, Gentlemen and Creatures to the Replay Thrift Shop & Emporium! Today we are featuring some of the greatest video game weapons from realms across the video game universe.

Choosing the right video game weapon can get you out of sticky situations. Whether you’re looking for a weapon to protect yourself, to slow down your friends or to just have fun, you can’t go wrong with some of the options I have procured on my video game travels.

Energy Sword from the Halo Franchise –

If I’m going into a battle, I’d love to have the Energy Sword from Halo. This One-Hitter-Quitter weapon comes equipped with a jump and speed boost when using the weapon. Icons such as the Arbiter and Master Chief have mastered and elevated the Energy Sword in their battles. Taking home this sword will make you the most powerful and formittable character!

FLUDD –

This pretty contraption hasn’t been used since 2002. I found this relic on an island battered and worn by the sun. After a few repairs and spitshine, I was able to restore the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device once used by that famous plumber that we know and love, Mario in his Mario Sunshine days. The FLUDD is great for cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning, but you can also use the device to fly! That’s right, point the hose at the floor and you can seamlessly fly over obstacles. You can protect the planet from pollution and protect your feet from hurting with this nifty device.

Red Shell, Fire Flower and Star –

Speaking of that plumber, I was also able to procure a Red Shell, Fire Flower and a rare Super Star from a vault beneath Peach’s Castle. Yes, I had to sneak passed a few guards and shimmy up a window seal, but the finds in this bundle was worth it! First I opened up a Question Mark Block and this beautiful Red Shell appeared. I know you fine players will have use for a shell that heat seeks the player in front of you.

I’ve traveled the world and viewed exotic wildlife but the next treasure in this vault was something that took even my breath away. A rare Fire Flower! This beauty will allow you to become a fireball shooting fiend. The effects of this flower will last until you are wounded in battle so shoot wisely!

The 3rd item found in the vault almost eluded me. I was packing up the shell and flower when a painting on the wall caught my eye. It was a Super Star painting, quite normal looking in fact. That is until I shone my flashlight over it and revealed the sparkles in the painting. That’s no ordinary paint. I reached into the painting and pulled out the authentic Super Star. Even touching it seemed to build me up with confidence and strength. I was skeptical about letting this one go, but rest assured your invincibility will come in handy on your many adventures… for a price that is. Keep in mind that this weapon ,while awesome, has a short life span so use it wisely.

Video Game Challenge: Day 4 – Toughest Bosses!

Today’s Question:

Day 4: What was the toughest boss that you had to face?

There have been plenty of tough bosses in the realm of video games. My first experience with the Dark Souls franchise quickly showed me that the world is a horrible and dark place for gamers lol.

Scorpion Robotnik-

I remember playing Sonic Spinball as a kid and getting to the Scorpion Robotnik boss. I was sooo angry because I could never beat him. I’d either die from the poison he would spray or fall all the way back down to the beginning of the level. As a kid this really made me mad because I couldn’t beat it so I did the only thing I could think of.. I called my older brother to beat the level for me lol. Sure enough Kenny made it easy by jumping inside of the Scorpion Robotnik and hitting him in the core. Pretty soon the boss’s tail broke off and it was a matter of time before I was propelled to the next section.

Elite Four Pokemon Fire Red –

The Elite Four were hard for me to beat in my youth. I would try and beat them without using any revives or portions which didn’t work out too well in the beginning.

Jack of Blades-

Jack of Blades in Fable was a boss that took me a while to beat. WithFable, you can’t move as fast as you would want so when you are in the midst of a combination move, the only thing to do is try to dodge if you miss your target. I would miss and get chopped up by Jack forcing me to rethink my strategies.

The boss I’m selecting for the hardest in my gaming career has to be Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat 2.

Fighting games are super fun but I have to admit that I am not good at them. When you are facing the final boss in Mortal Kombat 2, I choked and could never beat him. As with previous mentions, I simply passed the controller to my brother who finished off the villain for me. I think my problem is that as a kid I used to just press buttons to find out how to do moves. I would remember the pattern of buttons that I would press and those would be my default moves. I never took the time to go to practice or exercise modes which show you the moves list. As I got older, I started going through the tedious task and became better at fighting games. If I can take on Shao Kahn now, I’m sure I would be the victor!

Today’s Question:

Who is your favorite video game sidekick?

Sidekicks to me are great additions to any story or video game. Holding a similar place in my heart as villains. Notable sidekicks like Daffy Duck, Tom from Tom & Jerry and Donald Duck have always been my favorites. But what about video game sidekicks?

Diddy Kong is a sidekick that made a name for himself. Following behind his famous Dad Donkey Kong, Diddy was inserted into games where he is the secondary character. Currently, my friend Emily is playing Donkey Kong Country on the SNES Classic. Diddy has climbed the ranks and started starring in his own titles, most notably, Diddy Kong Racing. While Diddy is a great candidate, he is not my favorite video game sidekick.

Miles “ Tails” Prower is my favorite video game sidekick of all time. Tails is amazing, he can fly, he’s kind and he’s super smart. My first encounter with Tails happened in Sonic 2 where you could play with the two-tailed fox. I really loved having Tails as the sidekick and longed to play with him alone. Low and behold Sonic and Tails allowed me to do just that with playing with Tails, Sonic or both characters. A good sidekick has the main protagonists back, provides assistance when needed and can always be called upon to help. Tails has definitely gotten Sonic out of sticky situations and his willingness to stay by his friend’s side, earns him the spot as my favorite video game sidekick!

Video Game 30 Day Challenge: Day 2 – Gaming Worlds!

Happy Saturday Players! Welcome to Day #2 of the GamersUnitedGG 30 Day Video Game Challenge! Yesterday we started the challenge by blogging about our Favorite Video Game Childhood Hero and it made me really think about who I looked up to as a child. Want to know who influenced me? Day 2: Which Video Game World Would You Live In & Why?

Runner-Up –

Immediately the Mushroom Kingdom popped into my mind, specifically the Kingdom featured in Super Mario 64! I’ve already gushed on again and again about how revolutionary Mario 64 was for video games but talking more about the aesthetics, Peach’s castle and the different realms that you can travel to using a picture was AMAZINGGGG! I just realized that Mario also started using less and fewer warp pipes in this installment of the franchise, which is fine. I prefer the slides, the jumping through paintings and finding secret rooms in the castle method. Not only were the colors absolutely stunning in Mario 64, but there was so much to do and so much fun to have to visit Chomp, Thwomp or Penguin racing!

Honorable Mention:

The world of Pokemon, specifically Kanto and Johto Regions. I know I’m not the only one that wished I lived in the world of Pokemon. Imagin being able to catch and train Pokemon, participate in Gym Battles, Festivals and other competitions to show off your friends. I imagine having Pokemon will do wonders for self-esteem and people who often feel lonely as your Pokemon will never leave you. If I could live in the Pokemon world, I would want to be a Pokemon Coordinator like Dawn was. I’d want to showcase the Pokemon and their best attributes in a contest rather than have them battle it out in an arena.

Winner:

I’m a big Fable fan and the world of Albion is where I would like to live. Albion takes into account all of the current fads that I’m into royalty, magic and a simple life. In Albion, I could be a Royal Princess with 2 magic gauntlets that fuses my abilities. I could go into the City of Bowerstone buy merchandise, make pies and kick chickens! I could be a blacksmith, make potions or just run around helping people in need. A life in the world of Fable has been intriguing to me which is why I’ve played each game in the franchise and spent countless hours making choices to help save or destroy the world. Breathtaking views, a sense of duty and a place where Heroes are made, I would choose to live in the world of Fable and Albion any day!

Video Game 30 Day Challenge: Day 1- Gaming Heroes!

Happy Friday Players! Today is June 1st and the start of the GamersUnitedGG 30 Day Video Game Challenge! I’m super excited to answer the questions that I came up with and read the responses of anyone who wants to participate. You can join us and read the official rules by clicking here! Day 1: Who is your childhood Video Game Hero?

My video game hero is Nancy Neil from Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2!

Snowboard Kids is a snowboard racing game that debuted on Nintendo 64, where you select your character, costume and race through really cool maps. I’ve never been the best at speed, but I have always loved performing in the trick portion of the game. Nancy was always my choice and upon reading the Snowboard Kids Story, she became a character that I could relate too. While Nancy was really skilled at tricks, she was always the nice mediator of the group that everyone loved. Nancy was friends with one of the meanest characters in the game, a snob name Linda, but she was there to orchestrate and attend Linda’s birthday party.

Snowboard Kids 2 was the very first game that was mine entirely (and not for me AND my brother) which holds a special place in my heart. In Snowboard kids 2, an alien, evil child known as Damien appears. The kids have to race Damien in the story and while he is the antagonist, Nancy tries to extend the olive branch and invite Damien to the group. She’s such a great character and I have looked up to her for her tricks, personality and all that Nancy represents. To sum up her personality Nancy is fun, genuine and friendly, traits that I think my friends would now describe me as. Thank you Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2 for having such a positive impact!

There’s a more teenage version of Snowboards Kids called SBK where Nancy is completely the opposite. She is spoiled, stuck up and conceited. I’m super happy that I grew up admiring the 10 year old Nancy!

Luna’s Rankings: Favorite Overwatch Characters!

Happy Tuesday! It’s been 2 months of a break from blogging but I am getting back into the swing of things. If you recall, Tuesdays are the Rankings day for GamersUnitedGG. The Rankings posts are where I will provide my favorites in ascending order from 5th place to 1st providing my personal reasons for the rankings. This is a community discussion section so feel free to rank your favorites in the comments below and the following week I will tally the Community votes to provide a Community Ranking. Today we are Ranking: Our Favorite Overwatch Characters!

#5- Pharah–

Pharah is an offensive character and the very first character that I tried when playing Overwatch. Pharah has boosters and a rocket which is all I needed to get hooked. I love being able to hover in the air, boost jump behind someone and fire my rockets. Pharah is such a fun character to play and when she uses her ultimate “Justice Rains From Above!” I’m not good with Pharah but I don’t care, she’s soooo fun to play with lol

#4 – Moira –

Moira is a support character that provides heals and damage. What I like about Moira is that she reminds me of Hel from Smite. She has her hearing and damage state which is fun to play with. When I need to be a healer, I like selecting Moira because I can also through damage orbs at the enemy team to assist in the battle. Moira also has a crazy powerful ultimate where she shoots a hyper beam that damages enemies and heals allies. Moira is really fun and I don’t feel completely useless as a healer (in damage and attack that is lol)

#3- Sombra –

Sombra is a fairly interesting character and she is classified as an Offensive hero. I started using Sombra in a custom match with friends where I was testing out different characters. Sombra is super cool and her hacking abilities can come in handy when you have annoying characters like Junkrat or Reinhardt. Her hack takes away options for the character hit and they can only use their basic attacks. A well timed hack can change the game for sure! Sombra’s other abilities are her invisibility and pistol. Not to mention a group hack Ultimate!

#2 Junkrat –

Point blank period, Junkrat is fun! He’s fairly easy to use so I do recommend him to beginners. His basic attack is a noob tube (hahah Call of Duty lingo) which is a grenade launcher. He also has a bear trap, mines and a Rip Tire that you can control as his Ultimate. Junkrat is fun to play with and 90% of the games will have at least 1 junkrat somewhere. Plus, I have a special place in my heart for villains and Junkrat is definitely a villain or at least an evil scientist with his demented laughs! Oh yeah, Junkrat is a Defensive Hero!

#1 – Orisa –

This selection is a surprise to me because Orisa is a Tank Hero and I’ve never really played with a tank in any game. She’s not a full tank character but Orisa has shields to protect the team, a gravitron ray and her Ultimate is the supercharger that buffs damage for your team. Throw down a shield and plop that Supercharger behind it for the best effect. Orisa is easily my favorite character and she is my most useful. I perform best as Orisa and being able to shield my teammates, lay down suppressing fire, use the Gravitron Ray(not sure of its real name lol) to throw enemies off balance or pull them back when they try to take cover and buff my teams damage is the perfect role for me. I still don’t fancy myself a Tank kind of girl, but in the case of Orisa, I’m her number 1 fan!
