Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Spoiler Free Review!

Happy Sunday Novas! This past weekend the Marvel Avengers: Infinity War movie released in theaters. Today I will provide my spoiler free review of the movie! This movie was great and to stay away from spoilers, I will provide a brief overview of the movie.

Plot: Infinity War brings together the Marvel characters and their independent movies over the last few years. The characters are brought together by an impending threat who goes by the name of Thanos. Thanos is searching for the Infinity Stones in the Universe to be able to bring balance by genocide. 2 of the Infinity Stones rest with our heroes of Doctor Strange and Vision, so naturally, Thanos and his tyranny come back to Earth.

Thanos

Consistency was something that I was worried about in the movie. When you are melding so many storylines together, you can easily miss a few pieces. I was pleased that Infinity War (from what I have seen of the preceding movies) matched up the characters, locations and state of being of each hero to a T.

Visuals & Sounds – The cinematic quality of the movie was pretty good. If there is one critique, the giant Iron Man suit with it’s pilot looked a bit weird in a few scenes. Each location of our heroes, is given the breathtaking quality that it received in the independant film.

iw

Characters: We catch up with all of our favorite Marvel Characters: Captain America, Ironman, The Hulk, Thor, Loki, Black Widow, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Starlord and more are united in Infinity War. We are even graced with the side characters that we love like Suri and Rocket! Each character provided their distinct personalities and upon meeting new heroes, we receive more banter that pushes the movie forward. One of my favorite interactions is between Tony Stark and Doctor Strange!

Action: Marvel movies are known for cool action and battle scenes. With Infinity War, since there are so many main players in the movie, there’s constant action or conflict throughout the movie. Ever scene felt important so my recommendation is to make sure to empty your bladder before sitting down to this 2 hour and 30 minute masterpiece. The integration of the different battle styles from each character makes for an innovative new movie.

Final Thoughts: I have really enjoyed the Marvel Avengers: Infinity War movie. The plot was good, it’s another one of those plots that causes you to think about WHY the villain is doing what they are doing. All of the characters were used properly and the story made sense. Don’t forget to watch the ending credits and be prepared to be SHOOK throughout the movie.

Have you watched Infinity War? Who’s your favorite Marvel Character? Let’s talk Infinity War!

Pacific Rim Uprising Spoiler Free Movie Review!

Happy Friday Novas and thank you for tuning into this week’s Spoiler Free Review of the new release movie Pacific Rim! I was fortunate enough to have a sneak preview of the movie on Wednesday night and I’m posting the review today so that you can have a heads up on what to expect without spoiling the movie or major plots.

Story: We join Jake Pentecost, son of Major Pentecoste and brother to Mako from the first Pacific Rim movie, as he is living a life unlike his heroic families name would suggest. Jake is played by ( John Boyega ) who you can most recently remember as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Jake makes it clear from the beginning that he is NOT his father and we join him in a less than glorious life, 10 years after the last Kaiju uprising. During a typical day for Jake, he is bested by a unknown assailant who has been affected by the past Kaiju attacks and has a special place in their heart for the Jaegers used to protect and save the world. Film Title: Pacific Rim UprisingRewind… Lesson Time if you haven’t watched the first Pacific Rim movie:

  1. Kaiju – The name given to the monsters attacking the world. Think Godzilla, Godzilla!
  2. Jaeger – Jaegers are the giant robots that are controlled by pilots. Think you and your friends wearing a VR headset and being able to control the “Gundam (rofl)” with your movements. You both have to be connected through your minds which is called “Drifting.”
  3. Drifting – Allows you to be compatible with your partner and the bot.

Ok got it? Now back to the story. Jake and his new recruit Amara’s fates are both now connected as both struggle with being pilots in the eventuality that the Kaiju return.

Visuals & Sounds: The soundtrack on the movie was hyped to be a great addition to the movie. While I didn’t notice anything groundbreaking, the soundtrack wasn’t bad at all. The sounds in the movie from the different actions and fight scenes was really well done. The movie is a bit brighter than the original but still has the dark elements of a Jaeger being built, maintained and operated. The cinematic quality is top notched and looks realistic. pc2

Characters: The characters in this movie are played really well. I especially like the performance of Amara. She plays her part very well and displays excellent emotion. Pacific Rim has more comedy in it than the original (which seems to be a trend with many action movies in the past few years). Jake is the source of the majority of the comedy and the actor also took on the role of co-directing the movie.

Action: There’s a fair amount of action right from the jump of the movie. The fighting sequences with the Jaegers are well done. I love that there are different types of Jaegers each with their own unique abilities and drifting pilots needed. My favorite Jaeger is Saber Athena and of course Scrapper. When you see those 2, you will likely understand why lol. str2_dapacrim2_jaegers_MAIN_da-1170x480

Final Thoughts: The new additions to the Pacific Rim franchise seems to cater to a new generation. You don’t need to have watched the first Pacific Rim as there are flashbacks and a very good explanation on what is going on in the movie. I have to admit that I was only going to see this movie because I knew my brother Kenny really wanted to see it, however, I was really happy with it and wouldn’t have mind paying for the tickets if I didn’t get the perk!

Play:

  • A great sci-fi action movie with a hint of comedy
  • A well thought out story that’s intriguing and easy to understand
  • Brilliant acting and believable

Skip:

  • You do not enjoy action movies
  • If you didn’t really enjoy the first movie (although this one is hands down better, I was one of those “not really impressed” movie goers)

That’s my review of Pacific Rim! Have you watched the first movie? Are you planning on seeing this movie? What are you expecting to see from Pacific Rim? Let’s talk Pacific Rim!

Black Panther Spoiler Free Movie Review!

Happy Sunday Novas and thank you for reading today’s movie review for Black Panther. When I seen this movie preview last year before Thor: Ragnarok, I knew that I would want to make plans to see this movie on opening weekend. Sit back and relax for the spoiler free Black Panther moview review!

Story: Black Panther is the story of the rise of T’Challa, son of the King of Wakanda, an African Nation that is technologically superior to the world. Wakanda is comprised of different tribes in Africa, who band together to keep the secret of their advances and most powerful resource, Vibranium from the outside world. For centuries, the lands of Wakanda have been hidden in plain sight and while the rest of the world views it as a 3rd world country, Wakanda has built a city that is far more superior than anyone else. As a member of the royal family, T’Challa uses the powers of the Black Panther to help fight crime and bring justice.

tchalla1

Following his rise to power, T’Challa faces and enemy that looks to destroy everything that his father has built. Can he be the leader that Wakanda needs to usher in a new century or will he be rivaled for his claim to the throne? The true test of Leadership and ruling is just around the corner.

Visuals & Sounds: Black Panther is a truly visually stunning movie. I remember the scene where T’Challa, his head general and his ex-girlfriend Nakita walked into an underground gambling house. This scene was beautiful with the use of bright oranges and reds, you can feel the atmosphere that they are walking into. The scenery when the cameras pan over Wakanda shows a breathtaking landscape and each tribe has their signature colors and cultural rituals.

Characters: There’s a great mix of characters in Black Panther and you may know most of the actors featured in this film. One of the most notable characters for me is the general Okoye played by Danai Gurira, you may know her as Michonne from AMC’s The Walking Dead series. Okoye is probably my favorite character in the series. She represents strength, loyalty and a clear conscious when it comes to T’Challa. Other notable characters are Forest Whitaker, Angela Basset and Michael B. Jordan. All of the roles were played perfectly and I really enjoyed the differences in each character.

costumes

The main character T’Challa adorned many different looks that seem comparable to the African Culture. The style of the Wakanda people versus the style of the outside characters are portrayed very well.

Action: What I really loved about this movie was the believability. While Black Panther is a superhero, the aspects and fight scenes were not too far exaggerated. The integration of the Vibranium technology made for unique fight scenes and they were perfect in execution. This movie does not have action around every corner as it is more story driven, but when a fight scene appears, you better hold onto your hats.

bp

Final Thoughts: If you couldn’t tell from the review of the movie elements, I really loved this movie. I think Black Panther is one of the best Marvel Movies that I have watched and it really makes me eager to see the new Avengers movie releasing later this year. From the costumes to the action to the story I think that Black Panther was really well done, albeit a bit lengthy. The movie runs about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I’m not the only one giving the movie a rave review. Rotten Tomatoes gives Black Panther a 97% rating. Check out the trailer below and if you’re looking for a great movie to watch, stop by your local theaters and watch Black Panther! Don’t forget to stick around after the credits 😉

This is the section of my reviews where I will list my top reasons to Play or Skip the film!

Play:

  • If you love Marvel Movies and want to stay in order before watching the new Avengers Movie.
  • A Great Superhero movie with a well developed story

Skip:

  • The movie is pretty lengthy
  • Don’t skip, go watch! lol

Luna’s Rankings: Favorite Star Wars Movies!

Happy Tuesday Novas! I hope the New Year is starting off well for everyone! Every Tuesday I will try to upload a Rankings post where we rank our top 5 items in a category from the least loved to the totally binge watch rankings. If there are more than 5 items in the category, the top 5 results are essentially my favorites and I am ranking their placings. This year I want to try something new, so I will be asking for your feedback as well to feature in the next week’s rankings!

Game Guide:

  • Respond in the comments with your top 5 placings
  • Tune in the following Tuesday to view the results of the Community’s Rankings and see your answers featured!

It’s that easy! Furthermore, if you would like to participate in my Rankings Post each week, let me know in the comments and we can set topics to post each Tuesday!

Now onto the Rankings….

But First: I have been super excited to make this Rankings Post because my co-worker Dan and I have talked about our rankings just before The Last Jedi movie released. He told me that my #1 choice is NO ONE”S FAVORITE and that I’m ALLOWED TO BE WRONG! Lol, it’s super funny because I told him that I would do this post. I’m aware that my favorite will probably not make anyone else’s.

#5 Revenge of the Sith –

star-wars-episode-iii-revenge-of-the-sith-345431l

Revenge of the Sith is one of my favorite movies in the 2nd set of Star Wars Trilogies, mainly because you see the foreshadowed and anticipated turn of Anakin Skywalker. Anakin is upset, he’s scared and he is very, very angry. The puppeteer Darth Sidious tapped into every emotional imbalance that he could find to get Anakin to make the turn, but it wasn’t until seeing the fate of his beloved Padma did Anakin let the darkness consume him which lead to one of my favorite lightsaber battles; Anakin versus Obi Wan Kenobi.

#4 The Force Awakens –

force

The Force Awakens makes my lists for a few reasons, one of which being that a main character and Jedi was portrayed as a female lead. I personally take pride in seeing Rey develop her skills and learn that she is destined for more than a life as a scraper. We also receive a more humanized point of view of the Storm Troopers in Finn. Finn gives us a point of view that was never explored in the previous Star Wars movies and when he connects with Rey, a new journey begins.

#3 Empire Strikes Back –

empire

The Empire Strikes Back is one of the original 3 Star Wars movies and one of the most well known movies. This is the movie where Vader reveals his secret to Luke, where Luke trains with the infamous Yoda and Han Solo meets with a beautiful Princess Leia. Empire Strikes Back is the most recognizable and action packed episode and it’s the one that I remember the most from my childhood. Empire Strikes Back “I Love you!”…. “I Know!”

#2 The Last Jedi –

star-wars-the-last-jedi-dolby-cinemas-poster-1058861

I should have prefaced this post by saying that I feel like I hold the millennials view of the Star Wars Saga. I don’t remember too much of episodes 4, 5 and 6 but I do remember my brother lovinggggg the movies. With that said, you will find that the originals are pretty scarce in my list so I’m excited to see what the community votes as their favorites. I really enjoyed the Last Jedi despite the arguments on both sides and it comes near the top of the list. You can read my review about why I loved the movie so much by clicking here!

#1 The Phantom Menace –

Star_Wars_Phantom_Menace_poster

Listen! Dan has already grilled me about being incorrect and that the Phantom Menace couldn’t possibly be my favorite. But it is. The Phantom Menace is one of the reasons I became re-invested in the Star Wars movies. Seeing my favorite Character Darth Maul and how cool he was (no matter how short lived) and seeing the strength of Queen Amidala amongst the pressures of the Federation just lit a spark in mie that is not easily distinguished. I LOVEEEEE THIS MOVIE! Jar Jar, The Gongons, Qui Gon, Podracers… what more can you ask?

Those are my top 5 movies in the Star Wars Saga. It’s time to get everyone involved and I would love if you would tell me your top 5 in the comments. Each movie will receive a number and the movies will be ranked on the Community board which will be announced next week! So what are your top 5 Star Wars Movies? What do you think of my list? Is Phantom Menace really that bad? Let’s talk Star Wars!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Spoiler Free) Review!

Happy Friday Novas! Last night I was able to catch the very first showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 3D and it was amazing! Today I bring you the Spoiler FREE movie review and encourage all fans of the saga to watch as soon as you can. If you haven’t watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens, beware! There are spoilers from that movie below.

Story: The Last Jedi picks up where The Force Awakens left off when Rey found the last Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in seclusion on a mysterious island. The 2 and a half hour movie showed the battle for the Republic between Snoke and Kylo Ren versus General Leia and the rebellion. With the larger scale battle taken place, Kylo and Rey line up on either side of the battle and both have to face personal obstacles in their midst. The Last Jedi contains the comedic scenes, awesome conflicts and morals that can only be taught from a Jedi Master or Sith Lord.

Visuals and Sounds: We watched the movie in 3D so that already beautifully, galactic world was amplified and if a great way! Normally, I don’t like to watch certain movies in 3D, but I really liked the way the 3D graphics were used in this movie. It accentuated the ships, lasers and of course the lightsaber battles that we all love to see! Star Wars has one of the best soundtracks of any series by far. There is the traditional galactic music at the beginning of the movie and a melodic symphony through every part of the movie. When Rey is training, the music is determined and hard, when there’s a revelation the music is hopeful and uplifting.

index

Characters: We are introduced to new characters in this movie and they provide a great support to the main characters that were established in The Force Awakens. From some of the reviews that I have been reading and hearing about, fans are upset about the backstory of Rey not being well established in The Last Jedi. I can understand the need to know where she comes from and why she is so special, but if you think about it, we didn’t know about Anakin for 3 episodes. I think this is a characteristic that the Star Wars Saga uses to draw out interest and ensure that we will continue buying tickets… and it works! We do get a glimpse into Kylo Ren’s past and find out why he turned to the Dark Side!

Action: There;s plenty of action in the movie for me! The pacing was fantastic with high adrenaline scenes, lightsaber battles, battleships making a statement and finding out secrets in a fantastic manner.

images

Final Thoughts: I really, really enjoyed the movie and I can see why it is being called one of the BEST Star Wars movies of all time. Watching a movie on premiere night with a bunch of fans of the series is always a great way to experience a Star Wars movie. As the traditional opening credits rolled the theater erupted into cheer and throughout the movie we all clapped, sighed and gasped at the scenes that we were experiencing together and in my case, in 3D. The atmosphere made the movie even more compelling to me, seeing and hearing everyone chanting for their favorite characters. At the end of the movie the entire theater stood up and clapped and I knew that I wasn’t the only fan satisfied with the money spent. I definitely encourage everyone to watch the movie!

This is the part of the review where I list my top reasons to Play or Skip the movie!

Play:

  • If you’ve watched and enjoyed The Force Awakens! Questions are answered and the picture is falling into place!
  • If you’re a Star Wars Fan!
  • If you’re not a Star Wars fan but want to start watching the series!

Skip:

  • If you have not watched The Force Awakens! There’s a bit of backstory that is re-told in this movie.
  • If you want more than 2 lightsaber battles (admittedly, I would have liked to see more battles)

Thank you for reading my spoiler free review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Are you planning or have you watched the movie yet? Who are your favorite Star Wars characters? Is there anything in particular that you are wanting to see in the film? Let’s talk Star Wars!

Thor: Ragnarok Movie Review!

Happy Sunday Novas! Last night I was FINALLY able to see the new Thor movie; Ragnarok! I know that I am a few weeks late, but I wanted to review the movie and if anyone hasn’t watched it yet, try to give your the insights to the movie! This is a spoiler free review so don’t worry about having to quickly close the post if I say something crazy!

Story: Thor Ragnarok takes place after the Thor Darkworld and Avengers 2 movies in the Marvel timeline. Thor has returned home to Asgard in lieu of dreams that he has been seeing about the destruction of his home in an event known as Ragnarok! After receiving confirmation that his dream is a premonition on what is prophesied to happen, Thor returns home to seek guidance from his father Odin.

(Note: In the lore, Ragnarok is the apocalypse where the gods Odin and Fenrir (a giant wolf ) battle!)

Thor must call upon the help of friends, strangers and even his mischievous brother Loki to save his home from certain destruction! thor 3

Ambience: The setting and colors of Ragnarok are exactly what you would want to see in a superhero movie. We have bright vibrant colors on Asgard and the warriors on the planet are strong and worthy of being subjects for Thor’s family.

Characters: The characters and the style of this movie is different from the first 2 Thor movies! Ragnarok, ironically takes on a more comical side of things with everyone throwing out puns. We are introduced to new characters that play their role very well. I’m sure we’ll be seeing most of these cosplay outfits at next year’s conventions! I have to admit, I really wanted to see this movie because I can’t get enough of Tom Hiddleson’s version of Loki! I feel as if he has played this role successfully and there’s plenty of Loki in Ragnarok! Thor 2

It’s that time of the review where I will list my top reasons to Play or Skip Thor Ragnarok!

Play:

  • A refreshing take on the Thor character and events (almost every scene has a joke or pun in it)
  • If you are obsessed with Loki as I am! (He appears quite a bit)
  • To stay up to date with the events happening in the Marvel Universe! (The movie connects to the Avengers and last Darkworld seamlessly)

Skip:

  • If you’re looking for the movie to be a replica of canon (liberal freedom was definitely taken)
  • If you prefer a more action based Marvel movie

Final Thoughts: The movie lived up to my expectations! I wanted more Loki, which I received, Action and a great story! All of these elements are presented in Ragnarok with the addition of unexpected comedy. If you have liked any of the Marvel movies so far, you will definitely love Thor Ragnarok.

Thank you for reading my review of Thor:Ragnarok! Tune in next week for my review of Star wars: The Last Jedi (my brother reserved us tickets last month lol).  Have you seen the movie yet? What are some of your favorite scenes? What movies are you excited about seeing or have seen this year? Let’s talk movies!

Coco Pixar Review

Once again, Pixar has outdone themselves with their newest Box Office hit, Coco. Last Saturday night, my boyfriend and his family (who are Mexican-American) went to see the movie and were completely in awe of the storyline, the detail of the characters and colorful scenes, and the realness they captured and portrayed of the Mexican Culture and the importance of family values!

I had no idea what to expect before going into the theatre other then the fact that Coco was about the Day of the Dead which is celebrated in Mexico while also following the story of a little boy. After watching the movie, I have to say, Coco is one of my new favorite Pixar and Disney movies ever and I am pretty sure I am not the only one who thinks that! Coco has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has grossed over 26.1 Million dollars in sales since its release!

fullscene
One of the best scenes in the entire movie! You really have to watch it for yourself to understand!

To give you a bit of an overview, Coco follows the story of a young boy named Miguel, who is passionately in love with music and wants to follow his dreams of playing the guitar like his beloved idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, even though his family has a generations-old ban on music and anything to do with it. With his whole family against him and his dream, Miguel runs away to prove his talent to his family and ends up in the colorful world of the Land of the Dead! Miguel learns more about his families history and meets a charming trickster named Hector and uncovers the real meaning of family. (I am trying so hard not to give anything away!)

COCO
The orange flower seen throughout the film is the Aztec marigold (known also as the Mexican marigold or the Cempasúchil). The flower is used in the tradition of Dia de Muertos in México to connect the living from the dead.

I think it is amazing that Pixar was able to feature the importance of Family, Life, Death, and cultural all in one movie and have it all flow together so nicely. Especially since Pixar’s main audience is children. I also am beyond pleased with how they pictured and portrayed the Mexican culture. Throughout the movie, I could hear my boyfriend and his family whisper about how the town looked so familiar and how relatable it was for them. All of those little details add to the movie and help make it what it is!

One of my favorite characters from Coco was Dante,

dante
Dante

the Xolo dog which is a tribute to Frida Kahlo! Dante was extremely cute and I loved that his tongue hung out from his mouth! His connection to Miguel is so heartwarming and made me think of my fur babies! It probably doesn’t help that I love dogs so much so my love for him isn’t really that big of a surprise!

Of course Pixar included hidden Easter Eggs through the movie and I am proud to say that I was able to catch a few! You can spot the Pizza Planet Truck on the street when Miguel is running and at the start of the movie, you can see Piñatas of Buzz LightYear, Woody, Mike Wazowski and a few other characters! I love finding the Easter Eggs and will be on the lookout for more the next time I watch it!

I have yet to visit Mexico, (I also have yet to get my Passport) but I have seen thousands of pictures and have heard hundreds of stories and from my perception., I feel like it properly portrayed the streets and people of Mexico! Now there are people pointing out flaws that the movie had but I honestly didn’t see any and don’t care to find out what they are. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects, I rather enjoy all of the positive elements of the movie!

I highly recommend everyone to see Coco! You do not have to be Hispanic or Mexican to enjoy this movie which I feel is important to say as some people think that you have to be, in order to see this film. I honestly can’t wait to watch it again and again and again!!

We Need to Talk About Kevin

split-2017-movie-reviews

Hello all! Maria here, and I hope you all are doing great this week! And yes, I am here with another review, but this one is different. Why, do you ask? Well, it’s not a review for a Netflix series or even a basic television series at that, as are most of the reviews on this blog, but it’s a review for a film. I don’t see as many reviews for films on here, so today’s review is going to be a treat for you all.

(Actually, I stand corrected…I shouldn’t say “today’s review” because I will be writing another review right after this one, for a series on Hulu called Versailles. You’ll see it either today after this one or tomorrow, depending on when I finish it.)

This film review is going to be all about one of the most recent M. Night Shyamalan film, Split. I had the opportunity to watch it last weekend with a good friend of mine on Netflix, and let’s just say…it was very interesting. And dark in a few places. I would say, actually, it’s kind of disturbing to boot. But my eyes stayed stuck to that film, no matter what.

A brief synopsis: Split is about a guy, Kevin, who has Dissociative Identity Disorder (otherwise known as multiple personalities). His psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, has witnessed 23 of them, but there is one that has yet to materialize. At least, not until he kidnaps three teenage girls in a parking lot after knocking out the father of one of them. If you’ve seen the trailer for this movie when it first came out, then you may recall this scene. What happens after that, though, and after you see the girls imprisoned under the basement of a zoo, things themselves begin to spiral as you see Kevin go into one personality after another, eventually getting to the 24th mysterious one.

As I said before, this movie is anything but lighthearted, it is one of the more disturbing films I have ever seen. I’m sure some reading this will be asking, “Why did you keep on watching it? Why didn’t you choose something else on Netflix?” Well, there a few reasons why. First off, I wanted to see if the girls were going to get out alive; second, just seeing Kevin in his various personalities was intriguing, and having been a psychology major, anything psychology related always fascinates me. This film was basically the Netflix film I could not put down.

(As far as being lighthearted, there was one part in the film which made me laugh a little. I’m not sure if any of you watch Adventure Time, or have in the past, but there is a character on there called the Earl of Lemongrab, who is known for his “UNACCEPTABLE” scream. One of Kevin’s personalities, “Dennis”, is looking at the bathroom connected to where the girls are being kept, and he says that it’s in “unacceptable” condition. And to be fair, “Dennis” looks a bit like Lemongrab.)

lemongrab_by_twillis-d6266g9

In summary, I would have to give Split a 4.5/5.

With that said, I hope you enjoyed this review, and be sure to stay tuned for Versailles!

Beauty and the Beast 2017 Review!

Happy Sunday friends! I was very exciting when my boyfriend called me and said that we have tickets for Beauty and the Beast opening weekend! A piece of information about me is that I loveeee Beauty and the Beast! Belle is above all others my favorite Disney Princess as I felt that she related to me as a kid. When I heard there was a movie being made, a few things crossed my mind. Firstly was who would play Belle, would the movie stay true to the original, how will the Beast look? All of these questions will be answered in the movie review so let’s get to it! bab1

Story: The setting of course is a little village in France where Belle and her father Maurice live. Belle is a girl wanting to read and escape the boring life that has sought after her for years. The Beast is a Prince who is cursed by an Enchantress for having a cold heart, the only way to break the curse is to fall in love and have someone love him.  To start off the movie, Disney stayed true to the starting of the animation. Belle (Played by Emma Watson) walks through the village to return a book and pick up items from town. Emma is a beautiful singer and the song is EXACTLY the one from the animation! As the opening scenes continue you notice that the townspeople regard Belle as a beautiful, but peculiar girl (as they call her odd, strange and funny while she walks by). You’re immediately introduce to some central characters like her father Maurice and the boastful Gaston, who tries to win her hand in marriage. The opening also bring sin a little of the backstory for the Beast!  bab2

As the story progresses you are reliving your childhood watching how Belle and Beast meets. How the characters in the house like Lumiere and Mrs. Potts interact with Belle and how Gaston tries at every point to make Belle his! Will Belle stop the curse and free the Beast and his servants from their dreadful demise? What I particularly loved was that the movie stayed true to the original animation version and songs , however, it still managed to add in more background information about Belle’s mom and the Beast’s past to make the movie really well rounded!

The Ambience: This movie did an absolutely amazing job with the scenes and feel of the movie. The symphony playing in the background was incredible. Original and new songs were given the right amount emphasis.   For instance, the iconic “Be Our Guest” song performed by  be-our-guest  Lumiere and all of the other servants was really well executed. The song was exactly the same, however, the performance of the song was a little slower than the original version. The version of this song used made me smile from ear to ear as the colors brought out the amazing feeling that Belle had to have felt. Each scene was shot in great lighting and the colors all blended harmoniously with the scene at hand. Listen I was smiling throughout the whole movie. Nostalgia hit me in the gut on this one.

The Characters: In my opinion Disney did a great job in portraying the characters. The actors and actresses really took on their roles and brought you into the story. The Beast (Dan Stevens) was portrayed really well and the costuming wasn’t outrageous. My only critique is while Gaston (Played By Luke Evans ) was pretty good, the appearance of Gaston wasn’t as bulky as I had imagined. Also, Gaston was a simpleton yes, but he wasn’t really villainous until about halfway through the movie. I also think that Belle’s father Maurice didn’t appear as helpless as he did in the animation (Boyfriend and I disagree on this point of view). I was also quite impressed with the amount of diversity in this film. Yes, there were different ethnicities represented that were clearly absent from the animation and it shows a progressive (and more realistic) movie. One of my favorite characters which may be a surprise, was Gaston’s buddy and right hand man Lefou (Josh Gad) lefou . This character was portrayed a little differently from the animation however, he was amazing. He provided the comic relief and the conscious for Gaston.

Check out the trailer here!

All in all I HIGHLY recommend watching Beauty and the Beast! I know I am very bias in that this is my favorite movie as a kid, however, I think that bias also made me critical of what could happen. My expectations were through the moon on this movie and in my opinion it was executed perfectly. There were a few things I scratched my head on like when Belle entered the village at the beginning of the movie she grabbed a loaf of bread, but when she left the bread was gone lol. That’s just a minor thing and Boyfriend didn’t even notice lol. I will tell you that this movie does pull at the heart strings and I wasn’t the only one crying at certain parts.

Play:

  • To watch a FANTASTIC reboot of the original Disney animation
  • To see Emma Watson Shine as Belle and bring the character (convincingly) to life
  • The antics of Lefou were amazing and the comedy added in really suit the film
  • Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Chip, Beast and all other servants at the Castle
  • Smiling all the way through with new and original songs

Skip:

  • If you don’t like Beauty and the Beast (The only reason to skip really)
  • If you don’t like singing throughout the movie (Although it wasn’t overly done)
  • If you don’t want to cry (I’m just saying, even some guys were choked up)

Thank you for reading my EXTREMELY bias review of the new Beauty and the Beast Movie lol. I will end here by saying I wasn’t the only one impressed, at the end of the movie the entire theater stood up and clapped (as we dried our tears). Are you planning to watch the movie? Have you seen it already? Let’s talk Beauty and the Beast! Have a fantastic week!
