Solbot Energy Rush: Mobile Game Review

Publisher: Freakout Games

Platform : IOS & Android

‘Solbot Energy Rush’ is a casual mobile game with easy one tap controls. Play as a robot and collect renewable energy resources as part of a space mission. Dodge tricky patterns, learn facts about saving energy to help the environment, and use fun power ups!

Premise:

sol

Solbot is an orb collecting indie game where the player will journey through space collecting energy orbs. What’s interesting about Solbot is that there is a very clear message to gamers ingrained in the story to raise awareness about the importance of energy.  screenshot_2018-09-10-21-34-111454103831.png Solbot is collecting these energy orbs to provide sustainable energy to the planets. It’s gaming with a message and the gamer can learn more about saving energy.

Sights & Sounds:

screenshot_2018-09-02-09-29-20129176400.png

You’re traveling through space collecting orbs so the visuals will be a galactic feel. The solbot is racing through space avoiding asteroids and collecting the energy orbs. Each level increases in difficulty due to the orbs and asteroids increasing in speed. What I love about the game is the use of Power- Ups randomly throughout the game. As the level increases, you will be introduced to new power ups like the Magnet or Fire Blasters that can appear at any time. If you collect a power up during the level, a usage bar coupled with an upbeat tempo counts down the life of that power up before you are back to moving back and forth.

The music is an upbeat galactic track. The use of the music changes when you are close to losing the life on your power ups helps out and lot and creates a sense of urgency.

Controls:

Players will tap to the left and right of their mobile screens to move Solbot in that direction while trying to avoid asteroids and collect energy orbs.

Difficulty:

sol2

The game increases in difficulty the higher the level. Currently, there are 50 levels in total. After completing all 50 levels, the difficulty wasn’t as high as I woud expect, however, going for the high score proves as a challenge. I would like to see the game expand in levels.

Replayability:

It’s a quick game of reflexes and the levels change the number as well as color of orbs to keep the gamer invested. It’s a great quick game to play when waiting on a break or lunch. Your progress is saved and the levels pass by quickly so you can hop in and out of Solbot at your leisure without having to dedicate any significant amount of time.

This is the section in my reviews where I like to list my top reason to  Play or Skip Solbot Energy Rush

Play:

  • A fun galactic game of reflex and skill
  • Easy game to learn and play with the family
  • Compete to see who can reach the highest score

Skip:

  • If you are not a fan of timing games

You can watch the trailer below!

Final Thoughts:

I have really enjoyed playing Solbot and most of my play time was done on a lunch or break at work. Once I dialed in, I wanted to keep progressing in level and the time really sped by. I will say that I would have liked to see the levels progress a bit more in scenery like maybe having Solbot fly through an actual planet to collect orbs and incorporate that into the story. I liked the relevance with sustainable, clean energy and I love that the game looks to have make an impact.

Pokemon Go Week 4 Update!

Happy Wednesday Novas! Every Thursday I am currently posting my updates for the week, while playing Pokemon Go! This past week has been really well and although I didn’t go to Crane’s Roost as I normally do on Wednesday Mornings, there was plenty of activities for the week.

New Pokemon: The Hatching Marathon Event ended on Monday April 2nd. This mini-event allowed me to hatch quality and rare pokemon out of the 2 KM eggs. With the addition of the Super Incubators (I bought a bundle lol) I was able to hatch many eggs in 1 Km.

  • Hatched Pokemon – Chansey, Wingull, Feebas, Beldum, Bagon, Slakoth, Cyndaquil Smoochum and Porygon. I was bale to hatch other Pokemon but I already had them registered to my Pokedex.
  • Evolved – Magby into Magmar, Skitty into Delcatty and Meowth into a Persian
  • Best Catch– Smoochum! She’s soooo cute!
  • Strongest CP – 1342 Magmar

Research & Field Quests

Screenshot_2018-03-31-08-17-26.png

It was exciting when the Research and Field Quests were released for the Pokemon Go game. One of the cooler parts of the research quests is the reward for a random wild Pokemon. I was able to fight Squirtle for my first one which ended up being my first Squirtle pokemon. I’ve completed 4 out of the 6 field research quests so far and I am on 3 out of 8 tasks on the Mythical Discovery quest. I hope to complete these quests within the next week.

Adventure: This week was a bit busy so I was unable to walk around with my friend to Pokestops. I was walking with my brother Kenny around my neighborhood to take over gyms and collect Pokestops. It was fun until my phone died and we had to walk back home smh.

Right now a new event the Kanto regino Pokemon celebration is going on. From now until April 17th, more Kanto Region Pokemon will appear!

This week was a bit slower but with the Mareep Community Event launching on Sunday April 15th, I expect to have a better update next week! Are you currently playing Pokemon Go? Which Pokemon are you currently searching for? Let’s talk Pokemon Go!

-Luna 🙂

Pokemon Go Week 3 Update!

Happy Friday Novas! This past Sunday was my first experience with the Community Events and we have been prepping for the evening all week. Catch up on week 2 by clicking here! Power up Players for this week’s update while playing Pokemon Go!

Community Event:

This month’s event allowed multiple Bulbasaurs to populate during a 3 hour window. For me on the East Coast that window was 2pm to 5pm on Sunday. Sadly it’s during my work hours so I was unable to take full advantage of event. I was able to play on my lunch break at 3 PM so I was walking around the parking lot catching Bulbasaurs. The event provided the Frenzy Plant move to a Venusaur that was evolved during that 3 hour window. I was unfortunately I didn’t collect enough candy to evolve into a Venusaur, BUT…. I CAUGHT A SHINY BULBASAUR!!!!!! It was a great moment as I was reviewing my Pokemon and noticed that 1 Bulba had 3 stars next to its name. All was not lost. Screenshot_2018-03-26-20-44-37.png

Adventure: I really love playing with friends, it’s truly the best part of the game. Remember Emily from the Pokemon Battle and other posts? Yea, she’s the girl who would take 3 normal Eevee’s into a Pokemon battle (facepalm) lol. Well she is starting to play with us and when I was telling her to select a buddy Pokemon so that she can receive candy from them, she surprised me by already having one set. It wouldn’t be Emily if it wasn’t another facepalm moment. When I asked Emily who was her buddy she smiled and screamed that is was an Oddish names Curry!

  • When driving from a Wal-Mart that was stacked with Pokemon, one of my friends screamed out “THERE’S A SNORLAX AROUND, PULL OVER!!!” I’m dyingggg lol
  • We ran into some more people playing Pokemon Go on Wednesday at Cranes Roost. We did 3 laps on the lake, stocked up our bags and I personally hatched 9 Pokemon with the 2 KM event going on.

    Screenshot_2018-03-28-14-04-37.png
Cranes Roost is a hotspot for Poke Stops!

New Pokemon: Because of our Adventure mode and the community event, I was able to add many Pokemon to my collection this week.

Screenshot_2018-03-30-11-47-47.png

Hatched- During the Event I was able to hatch an Igglybuff, Pichu and Mudkip. Aside from the Community Event on Sunday, Thursday started an event where you can hatch more rare Pokemon from 2KM and 5KM eggs. I have 6 incubators going and I’m walking everyday to hatch some great Pokemon!

Evolved– I evolve Bulbasaur into Ivysaur and a shiny Bulba into a shiny Ivy.

Best Catch – This week it has to be the Shiny Bulbasaur who is now a beautiful Shiny Ivysaur with a gold bulb on his back ❤

Strongest CP – Snorlax! I hatched a 1838 CP Snorlax on Wednesday!

Screenshot_2018-03-28-14-04-20.png

Gym Progress – This week we took over 5 Gyms. 2 At Cranes Roost, 1 in Kissimmee, 1 at the library and 1 at the church on my street.

Discovery:

  • Shiny Pokemon- I’ve discovered that if you see the rare 3 stars next to your Pokemon, then they are shiny Pokemon.
  • Star Pieces – You can receive additional Stardust by activating a star piece that lasts for 30 minutes.
  • Niantic will be releasing story and research quests soon!

Goals:

My goals last week were to participate and complete the Community Event. While I did participate, since it was during my work hours, I was unable to catch enough Bulbasaur to evolve in Venusaur and receive Frenzy Plant. My second goal was to evolve my Ralts which I did successfully.

My goal for next week is to evolve the Feebas!

This week was my most productive and fun week in Pokemon Go! I’m still walking to hatch all of the 2 KM eggs as the event ends April 2nd. How’s your progress going? Are you playing Pokemon Go? Who are your favorite Pokemon? Let’s talk Pokemon!

FarmVille 2: Country Escape Mobile Review!

Power Up Players and Happy Wednesday! I’m finally back to my normal blogging schedule and today we have a First Impressions Video Game Post for the mobile game: Farmville 2: Country Escape! I’ve just started playing this game and I like it far more than the predecessor FarmVille that took over Facebook and mobile phones everywhere for a year.

Publisher: Zynga

Platform: Android

Genre: Casual

Rating: E for Everyone

Description: Escape to the world of farming, friends and fun! Go on farm adventures to collect rare goods and craft new recipes. Raise animals and grow your farm with friends. Join a farm Co-Op to trade and share or play on your own in Anonymous Mode. You can play FarmVille anytime, anywhere… even when not connected to the internet. Best of all, the world’s most popular farming game is free to play!

Farmville 2: Country Escape is similar to the original Farmville game where you build a farm and harvest crops. What makes FarmVille 2 different is that you are now able to Fish, Search for Berries and even bake items! The game is Free to Play on the Play Store and there’s plenty to keep you busy, if you are into the progression and farming genre.

Gameplay- The short tutorial shows you have to harvest crops. Instead of just planting your crops, you will need to stock up on water at the well to water your plants. As you level up, you can purchase additional crops, animals and tools for your farm. You will be provided with different quests like baking a cake, selling an apple pie or having 3 cows. Upon completion of the missions you will receive experience and bonuses that can be used.

  • Crops – Crops in this game are used to make dishes that can be used for your quests and sold for gold coins. You start off with wheat and can increase your fields. Along with crops, I have trees that provide apples and peaches at the moment.
  • Animals – As you progress you can unlock more barn animals for your farm. Each animal requires a specific crop in order to produce items. For Example: Cows require 3 wheat in order to produce 1 milk.
  • Farm Orders– There is a farm order board by your barn that allows you to sell items for in game currency. Completing farm orders also provides experience.
  • Locations – Some items can be found by sending helpers out to different locations on the farm. The more helpers you send, the better your reward at the end of their search. You can send them to the pond to go fishing, to the garden to pick berries, etc.
  • Farmers Market – FarmVille 2 introduces the Farmers Market, where you can sell items in your barn to real players for in game currency. This works out because you may want to clear space in your barn, but you do not have a farm order for that item.
  • Other Farmers – As with many mobile games, you can request your friends from Facebook on the mobile game. You can send gifts to your friends and request items from them. There is also a co-op mode that allows you to farm together (I haven’t played co-op mode yet).

Sights & Sounds- The colors of the game are bright and vibrant. I haven’t noticed any season changes at all, but it looks as if you are in Spring or Autumn seasons.

Difficulty- The game is not difficult, but you will have to manage and prioritize tasks. If you have 2 bakery ovens and you are trying to complete a task, you will want to make the quick timed items while you are actively playing and leave the longer items to cook when you will not be on your phone. Also, keeping track of how many items you have is something slowing me down at a moment. I go over the limit of items that I can store in my barn.

Replayability– Right now the game has high replayability because it is set up to unlock expansions or additional features at a certain level or time. I’ve noticed that once you have expanded your land, there is a timer that doesn’t let you expand again until you either use keys (not recommended as these are hard to come by) or wait until the time runs out.

Final Thoughts: I’m enjoying the game at the moment. While at work, I set tasks that can take a few hours in progress and on breaks I try and accomplish as many quick tasks as possible. It’s pretty fun and a great way for me to pass the time.

This is the section of my reviews where I list the top reasons to “Play” or “Skip” the game.

Play:

  • A mobile game that can be played quickly or over time
  • If you enjoyed the first Farmville or similar games by Zynga

Skip:

  • If you do not like games that regulate your expansion
  • If you do not like time centered games (3 minutes for carrots, 1 hour for Strawberries, etc.)

Thank you for reading my first impressions post for the mobile game FarmVille 2: Country Escape. Have you played the game? What mobile games are you currently playing? Let’s talk mobile games!

Rollerblade Pro Mobile Game Review!

Power up players for our mobile game review of Rollerblade Pro! This review is a bit overdue as I received the request from Gerry early in November. Now that I am free from the NaNoWriMo challenge, I am able to catch up on blogging and game requests.

Publisher: Saturn Games

Platforms: Android

Genre: Arcade

Description: Rollerblade through the street and tunnel to prove your rollerblading skills by attaining high scores and collecting coins.Skate for long without being killed by obstacles and become a pro, by ending the game !!! Use in game skills to dodge obstacles, like jet pack to fly high, and slow speed to slow down your skate speed, or double jump to dodge higher, obstacles.

Gameplay: Rollerblade Pro is a cool arcade style game in which your ultimate goal is to become a Rollerblade pro by ending the game! Play by swiping left and right on your screens in order to collect rings and dodge obstacles in your path. These obstacles can come in the for or cars, roadblocks and even stop signs! You will receive power ups such as super jump that can assist in helping you navigate the streets on your rollerblades, but beware, once used you cannot control the direction of your power ups.

Visuals & Sounds: The graphics are standard in this game and the controls are simple to use. I really enjoy the music associated with this game as it makes me feel like I’m about to watch a competitive rollerblader go to work! roller1

Difficulty: There is some skill and a learning curve associated with this game. I have to admit, I have not beat the game yet, but I’m determined to make that happen soon.

Areas of Improvement: The game was fun to review but I do have a few points of feedback for the developer to make the game more appealing and attractive. This is just my personal opinion and preference.

  • View – I found the game a bit difficult to play because the avatar that you use blocks most of the street in front of you. Maybe position the camera a bit higher or shrinking the avatar a bit would fix the problem.
  • Predictability – After playing the game a few times, I notice that I was memorizing the pattern of when a car would come or how many roadblocks were up. Maybe adding a bit more variety would assist.

Final Thoughts: I did enjoy playing and reviewing the game Rollerblade Pro. The easy controls of swiping left to right allowed me to collect rings and attempt to dodge oncoming traffic! There were a few areas of improvement that I would like to see implemented in the game in the future, but it is entirely my opinion on what would have made me enjoy the game more.

If you want to test out the game and become a RollderbladPro, the contact and download information is below:

Wooden Block Puzzle Game Mobile App

Hey Everyone!

I have recently come across a new game, Wooden Block Puzzle Game, thanks to my lovely boyfriend, that I cannot stop playing! If you like Tetris or puzzle games that challenge you to constantly be better, then this is the game for you!

Back Story: As I mentioned, my boyfriend started playing t58b67ce0044b8d8951561af7dd441b0619390a8bc7145855310d60204f682f22his game about a week ago.  Ever since then, we have been constantly trying to upstage each other with our scores any chance we get. And when I mean playing the game, I mean constantly staring at our phones, sucking our teeth with frustration, yelling “C’mon” at the screen every few minutes. Unfortunately, my boyfriends top score is 1779 and I am at 1436…I am not a happy camper. We are a bit competitive with each other so it can get a bit ugly.

  • Cost: FREE
  • Rating: 4.8/5
  • Difficulty: Easy/Simple
  • Platform: iOS App Store
  • Publisher: Pawitra Apsari

Object of the Game: If you like Tetris, you will be perfect at this game! Basically, you are playing on a 10X10 board, given three puzzle pieces at a time, and have to create and clear a perfect Horizontal/Vertical Line to earn points. All three pieces have to be added to the board in order to get the next three pieces and so on. You also earn points for the pieces you have placed on the board and for the lines you clear.

IMG-2010IMG-2006IMG-2005

Gameplay: Wooden Block Puzzle Game is easy, simple, relaxing but challenging at the same time. With unlimited game play you have the chance to beat your current high score.

To Play or Not to Play?

I vote Play! Here’s why!

  • It’s fun, easy, & simple. Just the right amount of effort.
  • Hours of endless gameplay for when your bored.
  • Great to play when you have time to kill like when have to poop.
  • You can try to beat your score over and over and over and over and over and over….

Now I did want to mention that the game will play two ads after each time that you lose. It can get a bit annoying but after a few seconds you can skip it to get to the game faster!

I hope you enjoyed this review and download the game! Let me know what your high score is in the comments down below! Happy Playing! 🙂

Sky Islands Anime Avatar Resort Mobile Game Update!

Power-up Players for today’s progress post on the mobile game Sky Islands! If you didn’t read my initial game review of Sky Islands you can do so by clicking here! Since I have more space on my phone, I was able to redownload the Sky Island Game and pick up where I left off. This time the game has become a bit addicting and here’s why!

Garden – Gardening is one of the best ways to make money in Sky Islands. In your garden you are able to plant fruit and breed animals to help out with your villas. The fruit collected can be used in a few ways:

  • Make and Serve dishes to your villa customers for extra cash
  • Upgrade the furniture in your villa
  • Convert fruit into dyes that can be used in clothing or traded in on Clan Orders

screenshot_20171110-1053531793092115.png
I’m planting Snow Pearls and Greenos so that I can make a curry & rice dish!

Clans – My friend Xsanie (also the person who made me download the game in the first place) created a clan called Fairy Tail (yes, after the anime). Xsanie was upset that she couldn’t find active members so she persuaded me to redownload the game and join her clan. In a clan you can help out by donating to the clan, participating in boss hunts (only available at hunting skill level 3 or higher),  Clan Serves and Clan Orders. Every activity you perform with the clan contributes to the clan’s reputation and rewards.

screenshot_20171110-1054401721543689.png
Clan Orders for this week!

Boss Hunt – the Boss Hunt is where you go “Hunting” against other clans to defeat a giant creature with a binky in their mouth lol. You have to be Hunting Skill Level 3 or higher to participate in the boss hunts. Your goal is to deal more damage than the other clans. If your clan is top 10, you receive a bonus reward, if you are top 100 individually for the amount of damage dealt,  you receive a bonus reward.

screenshot_20171109-233928-425887708.png
Boss Hunt! We came in 4th place!

Fishing – Fishing was an aspect of the review that I did not touch on too much. This is because I didn’t understand how to fish, now I do! You have a magnet on your screen with a small radius. When the beast appears, you tap the screen to move the magnet over the the beast. Any time the beast is outside of the magnet your progress will decrease. If the progress bar gets too low, you will lose the beast. Your goal is to build that progress bar up until it is green and you have captured your prey.

screenshot_20171110-105734954564883.png

Events – We have just finished the Halloween Event where performing your daily tasks, quests or any activity on Sky Island would provide you with Halloween Themed Items. You would stock up on these items and visit the Community Park to turn them in for special chests. These chests provided special Halloween Decor, costumes and accessories. I anticipate there will be more Holiday events around the corner.

Halloween Decor At A Villa!

screenshot_20171028-1256051451939082.png

Things to Try:

  1. The mobile game has also integrated Pets into the game. I have yet to purchase a pet and raise it, but I will try it out soon.
  2. There are contests like the Fashionista Contest where the best dressed avatar with the most votes will receive a statue in the community park for a week, I believe.

Final Thoughts: This second go round of Sky Island has been really fun and I can see myself playing the game for at least a few more months. I check on my fruits and set rent on my villas to 3 hours at a time when I’m working. This way by my break time I can quickly collect my items and set another timer. The inclusion of a Clan mode is really awesome because now I’m working towards something. We want our clan to be one of the best and most renowned so I work extra hard at clan tasks. The social element of Sky Islands is really cool. Xsanie and I are members of the Sky Island Facebook Group and we have regular players that we talk.

Have you played Sky Islands? What games are you currently playing that have you addicted? Let’s talk mobile games and updates!

Spurt Dot Mobile Game Review!

Power Up Players, get your hard drives ready for another mobile video game review! This time we are reviewing the ball bouncing dot game Spurt Dot!

Publisher: Appamate

Platform: Android

Spurt dot is an interactive brick breaking game in which the player taps the screen to break bricks, collect stars and avoid obstacles. The game has a great sense of a party as the colors are vibrant and the music in the background had me excited to play. There are 3 levels that will test the player’s skill and reaction times; Normal, Hard and Insane! Normal modes has a simple speed attached while Hard speeds up. Insane is just as it sounds, insanity for the quick reflexes of the challenger. I prefer the Normal mode lol.

Sights & Sounds: I enjoyed the simplistic design of the game. The colors are bright and vibrant so it is easy to spot where you will need to tap to control the ball. I really enjoyed the techno/ dance song that accompanies the game. It makes the task at hand feel like a party and increases the excitement.

Gameplay & Difficulty: The gameplay and controls are very easy. Tap the screen to bounce your ball while avoiding obstacles and pitfalls. You can rack up bonus points by collecting stars randomly marked on the colored bricks. Try and survive as long as possible! The different difficulty settings makes for a customized experience

Replayability: I can see Spurt Dot being a game that you can play when you have a few minutes of time to spare. Because of its simple design and unlimited play time, I find myself playing to see how long I can last. Currently my highest score for Normal difficulty is 54.

Final Thoughts: I did enjoy playing the game, however, it does seem endless. I know that is built by design but I would prefer to have goals set by the game. Maybe incorporate an arcade mode and a zen mode. The zen mode can be the endless tapping and race against your highest score and the arcade mode can be a set target where you reach a total score and move on. Maybe making it progressive where the speed, obstacles and pitfalls increase in difficulty. That would be awesome.

This is the section of the review where I note my top reasons to Play or Skip the mobile app!

Play:

  • Endless brick breaking fun (the classics are where it’s at!)
  • A chance to test your reflexes (and improve your skill) with the different game speeds
  • A quick game that’s pretty entertaining and great music

Skip:

  • If you prefer progressive games that have a set goal
  • If you get frustrated with games that test your reflexes

Check out the trailer below and if you enjoy the review and the game seems interesting, you can download it by clicking here!

I give Spurt Dot 3 out of 5 Power-ups!

Thank you to Josh from Appamate for the chance to review the game! What do you think of Spurt Dot? Do you like brick breaking games? Are you a fan of endless but fun games? Let’s talk video games!

Asteroid Challenge: Mobile Game Review!

Happy Thursday Players! Last week I reached out to a mobile game company as they were looking for bloggers to review their game. Today I bring you that honest review! So grab your phones and get ready to read my thoughts and review on Asteroid Challenge!

Developer: Pavo Studios Games

Game Type: Mobile Game

Platform: Android and IOS

Genre: Real Time Strategy (RTS) / Arcade Shooter

Rating: E for Everyone

Description From Developer:

Asteroid Challenge is an attractive arcade space shooter, where you must defend your damaged spaceship from waves of asteroids. Your end goal is to escape the collapsing galaxy. In order to do that, you need to repair your spaceship. Energy packs keep coming. But asteroids keep coming too! And they are bigger than any time before! One asteroid impact and you are dead. For how long can you survive? Will you ever be able to escape?

Premise: Asteroid Challenge is a strategy shooter game in which you must repair your base and protect it from the impending doom of asteroids flying around. As you are protecting your ship by shooting the asteroids there will be energy and repair resources gained.

Playing The Game: So I dove straight in and played the tutorial. The graphics are a nice, clean look and I was able to navigate the screen smoothly. I didn’t notice any major issues with using the items or shooting the asteroids which is fantastic!

Game Guide: Playing the game was much more fun then I was initially expecting. I did not experience any lag or glaring while I was playing (even from playing outdoors). You tackle 2 different types of asteroids, the solid brown ones that explode on impact and the dusty, grey ones that will split into smaller fragments on impact. There are varying speeds and sizes of asteroids that make the game different each time your play.

ac
Collect energy while destroying ateroids!

To repair the fires (or use any items) you must collect energy resources while defending your spaceship. There are a few ways to collect resources. First you automatically start collecting resources every few seconds, second you let the small capsule shaped resources hit the base for a few more, Last you can let the large box icons hit the base for a mega bonus of resources.

3 Key Icons  are located at the bottom of the screen. They are Turret upgrades, Shields and Repair. The icons that you are able to use will light up when you have enough energy resources.

  • Turret Upgrades- clicking the turret upgrade icon will allow your turret to shoot quicker and rotate faster.
  • Shields – Clicking on the Shield icon will place up a shield for  about 4 seconds. The shields will instantly destroy any ateroids in the immediate area.
  • Repair – The repair icon fixes the fires on your ship. You have 5 fires that you must repair.

ac1
A clutch shield to save the day!

Controls: The game was very simple with the controls and I instantly knew what to do after a short tutorial. The controls consisted of tapping to the left and right of the screen to rotate the turret and selecting an upgrade from the bottom middle of the screen.

Sounds: The music fit perfectly with the stranded in space vibe. The sounds of the turret and the explosions of the asteroids were spot on and believable.

Learning Curve- There’s a bit of a learning curve when you first delve into the game. There’s not a spoiler ahead but if you prefer to figure it out on your own, please skip past the Pro Tip section.  Luna’s Pro Tip: Use both hands to play the game! At first I was using 1 finger to move the turret. The tip is to use both pointer fingers one for the right side and one for the left. This mechanic tremendously helped my progression in the game!

Luna’s Pro Tip #2: You can shoot the energy resources and blow up asteroids in the immediate area. This is a double-edged sword as when you blow up the resource, you cannot collect it for your energy.

Difficulty – I did find the game difficult at first as the asteroids evolve and approach at different speeds. You are forced to make choices on the spot and a minor oversight could end your game. The amount of energy resources needed increases by 10 with every fire repair. Luna’s Pro Tip #3: You can only collect as much energy as it takes for the next repair. This mechanic stops players from stockpiling energy and makes the game even more difficult. Great job Pavo!

Screenshot_20171016-120154
I didn’t realize Warp Drive was a thing lol

Level of Fun- I was excited that the game peaked my interest. I couldn’t wait to go on break and play another round of the game, searching for my first win! Personally, I love strategy games and trying to maneuver the obstacles to get through the level. Now I’m playing for the Leaderboards!

Replayability- This game has medium replayability to me because each game will be different. The asteroids are random so there’s a bit of difference each time, however, I would love to have more than 1 level to optimize the enjoyment.

Play:

  • Really enjoyed the difficulty of the game
  • It’s a fast and fun way to spend a few extra minutes of free time

Skip:

  • Not a fan or arcade shooters
  • Get frazzled easily
Screenshot_20171016-121559
I beat the game! I was close before but I didn’t realize that there was another part after fixing the fires 😉

Final Thoughts: To the developer I would like to say thank you for providing an enjoyable mobile game that’s perfect to play on breaks at work. I would enjoy more levels where the game gets harder or you have to not only repair the fires and escape, but possibly add on additional tasks. I really enjoyed the game and even after completing it, I still find myself opening the game on my phone to play a few quick rounds. I definitely enjoyed the game and I can see potential to update the game and continue adding to it!

My rating:

Sky Islands Mobile Game Review!

Happy Thursday Novas! Earlier this week on the Friendly Trends post, I told you that my friend Stephanie introduced me to a new mobile game called Sky Islands, so why not write up a review?!

Title: Sky Island Anime Avatar World

Publisher: Suga Studio

Devices: Android Systems

Audience: Simulation Game Rated E (Everyone)

Premise: Sky Islands is a mobile MMORPG game that allows the players to make money by running a resort! You start off with a villa that you can decorate and rent out to patrons. Renting, cleaning and decorating the villas is your task. You can serve your guests food to gain additional money. Like any MMORPG Game you are able to fully customize your character’s appearance. Gameplay: You are greeted by Milky; a cat butler that is sent to help and serve you. This game is very anime, so you are referred to as “Master” throughout the game.

You also take charge of a garden where you can grow different fruits. The fruits have different uses like serving customers food, upgrading items in your villas or dyeing your clothing and hair! You can unlock different hair styles, features, clothing and accessories at higher levels.Screenshot_20170819-123918

Mini Games- When you are waiting for tenants to leave or crops to grow, you can take advantage of different mini games to gain extra revenue. One of the most popular mini games will be the Pinata Party.

  1. Pinata Party At Pinata Parties each guest donates 2 candies when they enter the host’s hot spring. The host can start the party once 10 candies are received. When the party starts, pinatas will start popping up over your screen and your goal is to tap as many pinatas as possible before time runs out (kind of like whack a mole). The top 3 players get to click on a prize box to receve coins or gems. Everyone else gets 100 coins as a consolation prize.
  2. Cuttlefishing – Cuttlefishing is a mini game that you can play solo or with a group. There is a time limit and you use a boat with 3 different hooks to try and catch fish. The best method is to try and catch the most combined weight of the fish. the larger fish will be at the bottom and are often blocked by obstacles like rocks, while the smaller fish are closer to the boat and easier to catch. You win coins based on the most combined weight.
  3. Treasure Hunt – There’s a treasure hunt party in which 2 or more players try and collect the most treasures. The kicker with this game is that it’s mostly luck. You roll the die and take the number of steps displayed. To catch treasure, you have to land exactly on the treasure space; yup, you can pass right by the treasures and have to circle the map to get back. I do like that there are power-ups on the map that can help prevent others from winning.
  4. Word Guess – Every 2 hours players can head to a community park and participate in the word guess game. You will be given a question with a blank and you only need to guess the letter that is inside of the word used to complete the sentence or question. Even if you don’t know the answer, you can guess a letter and win!
  5. Hunting Area – The hunting area is my least favorte activity. It’s pretty much fishing, but you have to keep tapping the line to reel in the animal. The larger the animal, the harder it is to reel in. It’s not my cup of tea and it hurt my finger playing the game lol.

Quests and Areas – You can also earn money by completing various quests on the game. Each day, you wil have a list of Daily Quests to complete. Upon completion, you receive XP and coins. There are also developmental tasks that give you more exerience and coins than the daily tasks. Screenshot_20170819-123744

There are different areas that you can visit like the Community Park, Friend’s Hotspring, Hunting Area and Treasure Island. These areas can be accessed by clicking on the World Compass. Each area has a different mini game and activities.

There are additional community activities like Fashion Shows and Boss battles (I haven’t been on to play any of these events yet as they are more infrequent).

Final Thoughts: I really like the game. It is targeted to anime fans, and I think it is targeted a bit more towards females, but I’ve seen plenty of males playing as well. It’s a great social networking game; as you benefit more from having friends that can send you candies, needed for tasks like the Pinata Parties. I feel like the graphics are what you would expect from any anime type game and the colors definitely fit the part.

As with all of my reviews, my top reasons to “Play” or “Skip” Sky Islands is listed below!

Play:

  • An addictive world building game like Farmville
  • Free To Play
  • A nice blend of activities

Skip:

  • Do not like Player Development games
  • Can be Pay To Play to advance faster in the game
  • Prefer more action

Thank you for reading the mobile game review! Have you heard of Sky Islands? What type of mobile games are you currenlty playing? Let’s talk mobile gaming!
