I’m Back and Upcoming Posts!

Happy Saturday Gamers and Friends and Welcome Back to GamersUnitedGG! Well, it has been a while since I have blogged or uploaded any video game posts. Life has just been busy, but I’m finally balanced enough to get back to blogging a few times a week ( by a few I mean probably 2 times a week for now). This is going to be a wrap up on what’s been keeping me so busy lately and an intro into the new format and upcoming posts I have planned.

Life: So I started dropping off blogging last year around November when NaNoWriMo hit because I was participating in the challenge. NaNoWriMo takes place every November and writers are encouraged to write a novel (50,000 words or more) in a month. A tall task, but I was more prepared this year than I was last year with a proper outline. The story was the continuation of the book I wrote last year (which I will publish this year).  The Destiny Series follows fictitious rulers in 16th Century Europe and the inaugural book A Diary of Destiny takes place between the sacred pages of a nobleman’s bastard grandson, appointed squire to the King of Tamlonia. Gabriel recounts the events taking place as the King’s Daughter, Princess Ariana has become of age to marry. I’ve had a great time writing this series and look to continue it with book 3.

Work: Work has been busy lately so I’m picking up overtime to save up for my trip in April. Along with my normal job assisting Travel Agents, I’ve started selling Scentsy on the side as well. Scentsy is wax melts, warmers and different product fragrances. This is my 3rd month and it’s a really fun way to make that extra money. I always have my Scentsy Kit with me with testers, catalogs and my beautiful Vega the Unicorn Scentsy Buddy that smells amazing. Never heard of Scentsy, ask me questions!    www.WhiffablesByLuna.com

Upcoming Posts:

  • I am participating in the Tracking Shells collaboration over on Normal Happenings so my post about my fondest Mario Kart memories will be released soon.
  • I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books (for the 1st time) and I have a post or 2 I want to write. The first will be: Which Hogwarts House Should They Really Be In?  I’m really excited about this post, should be completed next week
  • Even though I haven’t been blogging, I have been playing video games way more than last year. I have my first impressions of Lego Harry Potter, I still have a Red Dead Redemption 2 post and new content with the Nintendo Switch.
  • Bookclub: My co-workers and I have started a bookclub in January and I plan to write about the 3 books we have already read.
  • Question of the Month: Kim and Later Levels hosts the gaming questions of the month. I haven’t participated in a few months but I plan on catching up and answering each question since January (because they seem to be connected). I encourage you to also join in on the fun and meet new bloggers by visiting http://www.LaterLevels.com
  • Captain Marvel Movie Review
  • Game of Thrones Countdown

Some exciting posts coming up soon and I’m happy to have the time to balance blogging and life again. What have you been up to? Playing any new games? Watching any new shows? Let’s talk!

Update, Happy April and Thank You!

Happy Easter Novas, Players and Friends! March has passed us by and now we are entering my favorite month (can you guess why?). At the end of this month I will be celebrating my birthday and I’m super happy and blessed to have made it this far in life. Today’s post will be a brief update and announcement on what will be happening in April!

Firstly, THANK YOU for 600+ Followers!

Thank you.

I know we hit this goal a while a go in March, but as life throws you a mess of things, you tend to start something and completely forget to post it. I dropped the ball but I am eternally grateful. So why has my life been extraordinarily busy lately? Probably my resolution to get out more and experience different things. I’ve had myweekend booked since my trip in February with wonky activities like “Curling” rofl or this weekend’s “Renaissance Faire.” I’ve also completed my first editing pass in my novel. It’s super exciting to have made it this far and hopefully I can have the book published. It’s been exciting but I miss having a consistent blogging schedule so I’m going to make one for 3 posts a week right now. Let’s quickly recap our stats for March!

March was our lowest month to date but I’m still proud of the work that was accomplished.

February Replay!

Happy March everyone! February is the shortest month of the year so I shouldn’t be too surprised that it’s over, but I am! Where has the time gone lol. Let’s recap our goals and stats for February and set some more goals for March!

Let’s Start With February’s Stats:

  • We slowed down a bit and only posted 12 blog posts
  • We had 861 Views
  • We had 516 Visitors
  • We had 246 Likes

Not a bad month at all. We had a solid month and I look to build upon that in March. Now on to our goals for February!

  • Finish Reading Royal Pains and Review It
  • Finish Reading the Darth Vader Comic and Review it
  • Write and Post Black History and Gaming Post
  • Purchase Kingdom Come RPG
  • Post at least 3 times a week to the blog
  • Upload at least 2 YouTube Videos a week

Yikes! I didn’t finish moist of these. February was a crazy busy month for me in my personal life that I didn’t blog as much as I intended haha.

  1. I did Finish Royal Pains and I’m working on the review (should be up next week!)
  2. I have not started Darth Vader but I plan on reading it next week.
  3. I did write the Black History and Gaming post but I posted it March 1st lol
  4. I still haven’t purchased Kingdom Come because I haven’t been home to play any games lately .
  5. I didn’t post at least 3 times a week. I think I maybe posted at least twice a week.
  6. I did not upload 2 YouTube videos each week because I want to work out my editing first. In March I should have better quality videos thanks to suggestions from Aluna and others.

Now for my March Goals:

  • Write the Royal Pains Book Review
  • Write the Darth Vadar Comic Review

1 Year of GamersUnitedGG!

Happy Thursday Novas, Players and Superstars! Yesterday, I received a notification from WordPress and unlocked the Achievement of blogging for 1 year! This past year has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I can’t believe I stuck it out this long. Today’s post is a thank you post for sticking with us throughout the year and a glimpse of what is to come from us here at GamersUnitedGG!

Past:

pacman_multi_agent

I’ve mentioned this before but GamersUnitedGG started as a Gaming Blog but transformed into a place that I can geek out, fan girl out and rant about all of my interests! I really love some of the segments that I have written and I look to bring them back in the future, Meow.

Present:

overwatch

We have launched the GamersUnitedGG YouTube Channel and will be uploading gaming videos 2-3 times a week. I’m getting my editing software by the end of the month so the intros and sound quality will be better in the future. Currently, we have the blogging competition to celebrate the 1 year anniversary going on. Luna’s Rankings posts happen every Tuesday at 11:30am EST where I will rank my top 5 favorite items in a topic from 5th place to 1st place. I’m also asking for your top 5’s so that we can display the “Community Rankings” the following week. This week we’re ranking Game of Thrones characters! The Video Game Tag will be up by the end of the month as well1

Future:

oculus

I’ve signed up to work on the Year of RPG, project with Athena at AmbiGaming. We will also be participating in the GameBlast weekend to raise awareness for Special Effect. Make sure to tune into Later Levels for more information and check out the stream in March! Click here for details! I’m going to be holding a Bi-Monthly blogging competition after the current one! I want to participate in more blogging competitions and collaborations throughout the year.

Acknowledgements:

I wanted to acknowledge some awesome people that I have met over the year of blogging. It’s impossible to mention everyone but I value all of the relationships that I have made and I will continue to make more.

Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek – I met Drew really early in my blogging career and his book reviews mixed with his sarcasm really drew (no pun intended lol) me in. I recently told him this but his blog really inspired me to not conform and write in my own voice. When you start something new, you want desperately to be accepted so you start to lose your way and your voice and Drew’s outlook on his book reviews really connected with me. Somehow, I think he helped me expand beyond just being a video game blog.

Reads & Reels – This was the second book blogger that I followed and I was so grateful to read the reviews. Shenanigans brought a more friendly and understanding side to blogging for me. I really appreciated her comments, feedback and kind words as I trekked along this jungle known as the blogosphere. My first video game review (for Halo Wars 2) was made possible because of Reads & Reels. I built up the confidence to officially review a game and haven’t looked back!

IgnitedMoth – I’ve told her this many times, but I feel as though we are kindred spirits. From the first time I read her blog, about a series that I was interested in, I knew that she would help me on my journey to grow and create. I read through other articles and see how she would talk about comics, books, shows and everything seemed to meld together. Nothing felt out of place. I would wake up and immediately search for any new articles that were written because she had such a great writing style and point of view. I can attribute my diversity to IgnitedMoth for sure! She also introduced me to NaNoWriMo and her version of the national novel writing competition early in the year.

Kim from Later Levels – Kim is one of the first blogging people I met as well. The year brought many collaborations, group messages and her infamous Blog Parties (which I’m always late to lol). Kim is very helpful and has a wonderful outlook on blogging, gaming and community. She will be participating in Game Blast and you can donate to the cause of Special Effect by clicking here.

The Comic Vault– The comic Vault was one of my first comic blogs to follow. I’ve always been fascinated with comics but I haven’t read too many and I’m not familiar with the canon. The Comic Vault introduced me to details about our favorite heroes, villains and sidekicks that I would have not known otherwise.

Precinct1313 – Is the second comic blog I followed and his sense for alliteration, absolutely, astounding and attained me (see what I did there 😉 ). I really love the interviews with comic characters and they inspired me to come up with the Memoirs of A Villain series. I love learning all of the intricacies of comic characters and their personalities. I am most thankful for the spreads on Wonder Woman that started the curve my interest in the hero.

DoubleJump – My Mushroom ranking system for game reviews and first impression posts are thanks to the hearts and lives rankings on Double Jump. Kris and Rachel have an amazing gaming blog and I love seeing how their Mii’s will rate an aspect of a video game. What’s great about their blog is that you will always receive 2 point of views on the review.

Thero159 – I met a while ago and has been a great friend and blogging buddy. Thero has introduced me to the events on FFXIV and with he posts, I was successfully able to complete them. She also introduced me to Offworld Trading Company which I love and the great Humble Bumble subscriptions that I have never used before. Thero has a great diverse mix of video games, comics, books and geeky interests to keep everyone entertained.

Those are some of the people that I have gotten to know over my year in blogging and I’m very grateful to have them. Thank you again for staying with us for a year and here’s to another great year of blogging, friends and most importantly, Video Games!

November Recap & December Goals!

Happy Sunday Players! November was a great month for me in a personal sense, but let’s see what has happened on the blog!

Surprisingly, we published 24 posts in the month of November! I was participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge all month, so I was not as active as I have been due to the challenge. Yet somehow between myself and our contributors we still had a decent number of posts!

We have 1064 Views, 668 visitors and 316 likes!

November Goals

  • Complete NaNoWriMo – Since we are in the month of November, I have been working on the NaNoWriMo challenge and my personal goal is to complete it!
  • 1 Steam Game Review  I have a few steam games that I have yet to play so I look to play them and write up a review this month (Thank you Thero159 for Offworld Trading Company and Amello!).
  • Post at least 3 times per week – The blog activity may not be as frequent as previous months because I’m focusing on NaNoWriMo, but I will try to have at least 3 posts per week for the month of November.

Ach2

The only achievement that we earned last month was the one for Completing NaNoWriMo! The novel is about 51,000 words (I’ve been editing it) and it is a Young Adult, period drama series.

December Goals:

  • Complete a Steam Game Review!
  • Set up the GamesUnitedGG YouTube Channel!
  • Launch a community Guest Blog Challenge!
  • Set up the GamersUnitedGG Podcast

snow

Those are my goals for December! As you can see it’s a lot of prep work for our anniversary in January and the launching of extensions to the blog!

Here are our top  posts from the month of November!

  1. Creating a Compelling RPG Villain
  2. Wooden Block Puzzle Mobile Game Review
  3. NaNoWriMo Update & Excerpt #2

I did it! I’ve completed the NaNoWriMo challenged and wrote a novel in 30 days (really 29 days because I finished a day early!). It was really hard and as you can see from the numbers, I slowed down towards the end (Thanksgiving played a large role in the decline), but in the end, I’ve pushed through the days of laziness and the days where I’ve felt like i couldn’t write anything and it has paid off tremendously. Thank you to everyone who was rooting for me and everyone prticipating in the challenge.

With the other updates I have included an excerpt from the story, so I will include one final snippet from the book titled: A Dance With Destiny!

Blurb: A kingdom in turmoil, an heiress’ position being challenged, a forced betrothal. Can Princess Ariana carry on the family dynasty of the House of Tamlin with a 16 year old secret looking to take everything away? Told through the eyes of household characters, a journal floats around the land. How will she cope? Will she survive? And will she ascend as the ruler of the kingdom? It is truly a dance with destiny!

The first time that I realized that I could rule was when the Dauphin of France studied at the same library as I. I was away from court for 8 months at this time and my scholars had me studying the philosophies of Galileo. The Dauphin, Francois was announced and he walked through with the arrogance of a king in waiting. Francois was 4 years older than me and ordered everyone around as if he were already ruling the country. I took it upon myself to test all of the skills I have learned over the years through observation and awareness. I introduced myself to the Dauphin and with the flirtatious techniques learned with my mother, I posed intelligent questions that I knew a prince would know the answer to. After flaunting my brilliance and catering to the Dauphin’s ego, I started making suggestions as to how the library could improve its processes. The Dauphin was so impressed that he began to think the ideas were his and after a week, the changes were made. I knew then I had a talent for ruling and a talent for persuasion and the Dauphin set me on a path, that I could not return from.

You may be wondering, why I think that I can be a better ruler. On all of my campaigns, I had to travel through cities that were forgotten. There’s been crime, murder and a disregard for the monarchy. If we are anointed by God, why does so many of our people despise us? It’s because of greed and envy. They want us to treat them as equals when they have not worked for it. Their allegiances are wavering to whomever benefits them at the time and they do not know true loyalty or respect. One of the philosophers that I have been reading says that the only way to truly rule is through fear. Being loved and respected is great, but love is fickle and waivers to the person that is providing the most benefits at the time. I aim to have both. To the outside world I will be loved, the only surviving heir. But behind the scenes, I will have my mercenaries bring law and order through an iron fist and a merciless rule.

This is not the final chapter for me or my work. I am L, I am the only person that can truly bring greatness to our country. Not by kindness and the education of our people, but by ruling with an iron fist. Fear is the only option for a people so proud and entitled. Until I am old enough, I must play the part of the hand that I was dealt. But my supporters are lying in wait for me to rally the nobles and commoners to my side. I will take the throne, even if I have to take it by force.

–       L

What I’ve learned?

LP_hero

Since this was my first experience with NaNoWriMo and actually completing a story, I’ve picked up some great tips that I want to share.

  • Plan in advance – Creating an outline before you take on a writing task is highly recommended. I am a pantser and I can sit and write quickly once I have an idea, but sometimes I lose my way. That’s where the outline comes in handy! On days that I did not feel inspired to write, I read through my outline and it helped me gather my thoughts so that I could write through the writer’s block!
  • Just Keep Writing – My co-worker Mrs. Michelle is a writer and she has been invaluable through this experience. Any time I have a doubt or I start to freak out because of the pressure, she would give me sound advice. The best thing she told me throughout the process was “Just Keep Writing! Right now you are just shoveling sand in the sandbox. During the editing process you will create the castle.” I don’t know why that saying stuck with me but It did and the analogy helped me succeed.
  • Define Your Characters – So I had a very basic outline that did not have enough information in it, especially relating to my characters. This made it difficult and I had to use standard names until I found better ones to use. Thank God there is a Ctrl + F shortcode that allows you to find and replace words. It saved me in the end. Next time, I will define my characters, their traits and motives before writing.
  • In the end, everything will tie together – I was worried that my story wouldn’t make sense when I was getting to the end. Again, I was saved by my literary Angel Mrs. Michelle, she told me to trust in the system. She said that I would be surprised how everything ties itself together in the end and she was right! I knew somewhat about the ending, but i didn’t know where the gaps would fill in and with which characters, in the end everything seemed to naturally fit together with my outline of What if statements.

I’ve had an excellent experience with NaNoWriMo and I will definitely participate again next year. Now that I have tackled this mountain of a challenge, I will be back to writing full time on the blog starting Monday (a short writing break to recharge lol ). Have you participated in this challenge and what was your progress? Are you currently working on any projects? Let’s talk creative writing!

Happy Sunday Novas! Our good friend IgnitedMoth posted an update from the NaNoWriMo challenge for her first week. Check out her progress and say hi! November 1st – 1788

November 2nd – 2846

November 3rd – 1393

November 4th – 2194

November 5th –2107

November 6th – 2446

November 7th – 182

November 8th – 1766

November 9th – 1453

November 10th – 2457

November 11th – 1255

Total Count 19986 (includes 99 words left over from last night).

I’m really proud that I have been making so much progress on the novel. I’m trying to stay motivated and dedicated as this will be the first novel that I have completed if I meet my goal. This post will include another excerpt from the novel. If you would like to read my first excerpt, please click here!

La Roja City, Mythonia  April 15th, 1523

“I am sorry to have to bring you this news Adrian, but you are now the head of the House of Star.”

The crown of his father was too heavy for the young prince and the burden of a country now lay at his feet. Adrian was a rambunctious boy who lived life as he saw fit. The day I had to tell him that he and his little sister Princess Lara were the last 2 remaining heirs of House Star, was the saddest day of my life. I could see his joy and happiness slipping away, but immediately I had to make sure that he was aware of the magnitude of this honor and on how quickly we had to move to install him as ruler.   son_of_morzan_by_murtagh231-d4by9kl

There’s no time for Adrian to grieve. His uncle is starting a petition throughout Mythonia to be installed himself, as king. It’s no secret that his uncle Bastion has been an envious brother to the deceased king. It’s no surprise that Bastion is reaching for the throne before the king’s body’s even cold yet. We have to make sure that the council and kingdom views Adrian as the heir apparent and a strong leader to place on the throne.

I have convinced the council to hold off on the coronation of Adrian until he has found a suitable bride and married her. We need a strong marriage and hope for an heir to really solidify Adrian’s position. My prince is very “Fluent” in the language of love. His courtly love games and flirtations are known throughout the kingdom and it has damaged his image as he is now expected to turn into a respectable citizen and ruler. We have to get him married quickly and before anyone realizes that there is another candidate in contention for the throne.

I’ve received numerous messages from kingdoms offering up their princesses to Adrian. He is handsome, rugged and has a zest for life so I’m in no way concerned about the suitors not being attracted and faithful. But we need supporters. We need a country that brings wealth, a strong lineage and a great reputation to bring validity to Adrian’s rule. When I received a letter saying that the Princess Ariana of Tamlonia had come of age, I knew that we had a perfect match. Tamlonia and the House of Tamlin is one of prestige and respect. Their trade routes are some of the most lucrative and the princess is the most eligible bride on the market. I contacted the ambassadors of Tamlonia and proposed the betrothal of Adrian and Ariana. 2 Young, beautiful rulers that will most definitely create heirs and unite the 2 kingdoms.
