Luna’s Rankings: Gears of War!

Happy Tuesday Novas! Last week I started the Luna’s rankings post where I will list my top games in a series or genre and reasons why they were placed in that position. Last week we ranked my top call of duty games and this week we will tackle one of my favorite series:Gears of War! The rankings will be from worst to best so let’s get to it!

Gears of War 2– Gears of War 2 is my least favorite game in the franchise. It’s dunny, I remember the midnight release for this game and how it was amazing… until the first patch. After the first patch (which I didn’t think needed to happen, especially a week after the game releases) playing as Skorge was a hack. Also the smoke grenades, when tagged to an opponent would sometimes glitch you out of the map. But also I didn’t care for the maps that much.

Gears of War Judgement- From my online friends, this was their least favorite game in the series. Personally, I didn’t think the game was bad at all, I just really liked the other games better so this one seems far down the list. I loved the new characters and game modes in judgement as well. The library stage was my favorite.

Gears of War– The original game was super amazing. Since there are only 5 games in the franchise, it may seem like this game is far down the list but it’s no at all. I completely love this game and I have so many memories tied to it. This was one of the first XBOX games I played for 360. Back when I used my brother’s profile and 360 to play. I made so many friends, many of which I still hvae and met in real life. This game is amazing, I can’t stress it enough.

Gears of War 4- This is the current Gears of War game and it’s fantstic! The only reason this game isn’t number 1 in my mind is becuase I’m extremely sad that I can no longer used my Theron Guard. Because of the story, there are no more “Locusts” and therefore the Theron character that I have used across other titles no longer exists. The graphics for this game is awesome and I particularly like the animations with the executions.

Gears of War 3 – Gears 3 is the best game in my mind out of the franchise. This game had everything, game modes, characters, a great story and the online multiplayer was amazing! The feel of the game, the stages, the memories all rank this game number 1 out of the other titles, but I love all of the GOW games (except 2 blahhh).

Those are my rankings! How do you rank the GOW franchise games? what’s your favorite video game franchise? Let’s talk rankings!

Have a great day and Game On!

Luna’s Rankings: Call of Duty

Happy Tuesday Novas! Yesterday, I watched a YouTube video where Chaos ranked the Call of duty Franchise from worst to best. I thought, why not do a rankings post every Tuesday! To start it off, I will of course start with Call of Duty. Each week I will rank a gaming series or genre from worst to best and ask for your lists to join in on the discussion. If you’re read my Favorite Call of Duty Post, you already know which title ranks in first, but what about the rest of them. Let’s start at number 10.

World At War??? – So my list doesn’t include World At War because I didnt really play this title. I mean I played it a bit, but I don’t even think that I’ve played 5 hours of World At War.

cod7

Infinite Warfare– IW was the first COD game that I didn’t buy. The game just didn’t appeal to me and after playing the BETA I knew that I wouldn’t like the game because of the movement, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it.

cod5

Modern Warfare 3 – Modern Warfare 3 was a pretty fun game until they added the payloads or whatever they’re called. Players just kept droppig the bulletproof vests and wouldn’t die. This game went downhill severely quickly.

cod8

Advanced Warfare – I liked advanced warfare. No real complaints, I just liked other games better.

cod6

Ghosts– This is where my list may get controversial, I really liked playing ghosts. The only thing I didn’t like was that the characters seemed slower in this COD than any other. The jumps seemed heavy but I loved the Game modes and the maps. I will say that the gun selection could have been better.

cod2

Black Ops – Black Ops one was pretty fun but I wouldn’t put it any higher on my list. I didn’t really like he levels or the guns, the only gun I used consistently was the Commando that you had to be like a level 70 to unlock, ughhh. No prestiging on this game.

cod3

Blops 2 – Black Ops 2 was the one that started competitive COD for me. My friends and I made a clan, played GBs, it was an awesome time. We even created a YouTube channel and I was able to learn editing so that we could showcase everyone. Black Ops 2 had great gameplay and people died when you shot them lol.

cod

COD 4 – The original Modern Warfare game and my first call of duty. It was pretty fun but I didn’t play it until a few months before MW2 released. This game is where some of my friends and I met.

cod4

Blops 3– Black Ops 3 was a really great game. After playing the Beta I was convinced that the game would do well and it did. It’s a great game to play and watch competitively. All I can say is that Blps 3 is amazing.

mw2

MW2– Yup Modern Warfare 2 is my number 1 COD game. This was the first COD that I oicked up at midnight and it’s my favorite of all time. The Scar was my weapon and I loved the stages. This is also the first game ever where I started buying DLC.I really want them to remaster this game and bring it back t next gen consoles, so many memories.

Alright that’s my rankings for the Call of Duty Franchise! What’s your order? What’s your favorite COD games? Tune in next week when I rank my favorite Gears of War games of all time!

Story Deck vs User Deck; Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist!

Happy Monday Novas! I hope everyone is being safe if you are affected by Hurricane Irma. I may or may not have power when this post goes live but I’ve tried to preset some posts to go out this week and this is one of them. Saturday night I was playing the Trading Card Game Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist on PS4. I’ve completed the main story and moved on to Yugioh GX which has to deal with fusions and stuff. When I played Yugioh physically, I played the normal version so I had little knowledge on fusions. Because of my ignirance, I decided to use the story mode decks for most of my battles; Big Mistake!!!! The story line decks are fine but some of the character’s setups are just plain annoying to play with. I know, I know that the premise is to teach you to adapt to your situation and such, but I like action! Some decks are passive like this one deck that was 98% trap and spell cards!!!!! I mean I won the duel after I was finally able to steal monster’s from my opponent (thank you monster reborn lol) but what if I couldn’t kill my opponent’s monsters??? I would have been a sitting duck lol.

So that experience prompted this discussion post. Do you use the story mode decks in TCG’s or do you make your own custom decks?

In the main story line, I made custom decks because I was familiar. My custom deck pretty much tore through any opponent that I was up against. It was pretty funny because playing online with my friends I was destrying as well. I highly recommend the Amazoness Deck build rofl. This deck can play against any normal deck pretty well, fusion decks will be your downfall but you can still put up a great fight. Let’s go through some of my favorite cards in this custom deck.

AmazonessTiger-LCJW-EN-UR-1E
Doesn’t he remind you of Shere Khan from the Jungle Book?

Amazoness Tiger – This card is targeted first out of all Amazoness monsters on the field. This card also gets a buff of 400 ATK (attack) points per each Amazoness on the field! Can you see how this tiger can be devastating for an opponent? It starts with 1100 ATK and 1500 DEF (Defense).

AmazonessScouts-LCJW-EN-C-1E
The first card I’ve seen that can negate Mirror force!!!

Amazoness Scouts – The scouts have very low ATK and DEF points. So why are they useful? That’s because some cards can have special effects. During either player’s turn: You can Tribute this card; this turn, face-upAmazonessmonsters you currently control cannot be targeted by monster effects, and cannot be destroyed by card effects. This card is amazing!!! You can block and effect for your tribe, sooo bye bye  Mirror Force! I always have at least 2 scouts in my deck.

AmazonessQueen-DREV-EN-SR-1E

Amazoness Queen– With the Queen, any Amazoness monsters that you control cannot be destroyed by battle. You can have a full lineup firing away at your opponent until they’re pretty much frced to pull out like a black hole card to destroy ALL monsters on the field.

Some of my favorite Amazoness trap and spell cards are:

QueensPawn-DREV-EN-C-1E
Can’t get rid of them all!

Queen’s Pawn– This trap card allows you to summon a level -4 amazoness monster when your amazoness in play destroys an opponent’s monster.

AmazonessVillage-LEDU-EN-C-1E
This card is LIT!!!

Amazoness Village– This is a spell card that allows you to buff all Amazoness monsters by 200 ATK. You’re also able to Special Summon an Amazoness monster equal to the Amazoness destroyed by battle or card effect.

As you can see, the Amazoness deck build provides a lot of versatility and can pack a punch if played correctly. The downside of this deck is that while you can gain ATK power quite quickly, the levels cap out quickly and typically before 3000 ATK. That’s why its crucial that you do not use this deck against fusion decks that can have average monsters of 3000 ATK or higher. If you attack quickly and with strategy, you can even defeat fusion decks but it’s going to be difficult. That’s why I add in a few high level monsters that can pack a punch!

So what type of strategies do you use in TCG’s? Do you play Yugioh, Magic or any trading card games? Do you prefer to use the story deck or a custom deck? Let’s talk trading card games!

Have a fantastic day!

Call of Duty WWII Beta Thoughts!

Happy Tuesday Novas and Gamers! This past labor day weekend was the last chance for players to get in on the WWII Beta before the game releases November 3rd, 2017. I started playing last weekend with the early access beta for PS4 and I’d like to share some.of my thoughts. First, I was only able to play maybe a total of 6 matches both weekends because I had a pretty busy schedule, ughh. I’m actually pretty annoyed that I didn’t have more time to play.

The beta included 3 maps but I don’t think I’ve played 2: One was a a building in like a wooded area. There was a bunker, a tank and I want to say a church or something. This map had 3 clear lanes, left to the water and woods, right to the building and down the middle y the tank. The other map I played was a town or a compound with a few buildings.I honestly don’t remember too much of the map, all I remember is going through the tunnel and shooting people in the back rofl.

Highlights:

  • A person on my team with the CMPR clan tag, yet he went 3 and 22! (sooo did you not camp?? lol).
  • The molotov cocktails! – Seeing people go in flames with the molotov cocktails hit them
  • Running to the spawn and getting a triple kil… before running out of sprint and getting killed myself lol

What I Liked:

  • The game play- With this COD game we are back to boots being n the ground. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the jetpack and super jump feeling of the last 3 games, but I’m ready for something else. More drop and jump shots are going to be used this time. I didn’t have any trouble with my bullets registering or dying too fast. The beta seemed pretty balanced for me.
  • The Feel – It’s definitely Call of Duty. I love the feeling it gave me when I was yelling out “Just install your game now, you’re trashhhhhh” lol. Ok I can get intense when playing but it’s all fun and I missed having that feeling.

CODWWII_PSBeta1_bonusLG

What I didn’t Like:

  • Dude, where’s my perks?– One of my main grievances was the setup of the classes. I’m used to being able to place marathon, sleight of hand and ninja on my classes as a perk. I didn’t really find a custom perk setup ike previous games had. Yes, you can get marathon by using the Airborne class and you can add on attachments to give youΒ  sleight of hand or steady aim, but I didn’t want to use a slot on my gun for it.
  • Maps– The Maps were fun but I’ve never been a fan for maps with more than 1 building. The 2 maps that I played were god sizes althoungh the one map reminded me of a map from Black Ops II.
  • The Weapons– I didn’t play World at War which is supposed to be the inspiration for WWII so I wasn’t quite sure what guns to expect (other than you know, old school guns). Again, I didn’t get much playing time because it was a busy 2 weekends for me, but I didn’t like the guns that I was playing with. This can definitely change because I only had a few things unlocked.

Overall I liked the game enough to decide to keep my pre-order. I hope that the actual game is a bit more customizable with the weapons, but other than that it was a great time! Did you play the beta? What’s your favorite COD game? What did you like about the game or hope that they would install? Let’s talk Call of Duty!

Sky Islands Mobile Game Review!

Happy Thursday Novas! Earlier this week on the Friendly Trends post, I told you that my friend Stephanie introduced me to a new mobile game called Sky Islands, so why not write up a review?!

Title: Sky Island Anime Avatar World

Publisher: Suga Studio

Devices: Android Systems

Audience: Simulation Game Rated E (Everyone)

Premise: Sky Islands is a mobile MMORPG game that allows the players to make money by running a resort! You start off with a villa that you can decorate and rent out to patrons. Renting, cleaning and decorating the villas is your task. You can serve your guests food to gain additional money. Like any MMORPG Game you are able to fully customize your character’s appearance. Screenshot_20170819-123757

Gameplay: You are greeted by Milky; a cat butler that is sent to help and serve you. This game is very anime, so you are referred to as “Master” throughout the game.

You also take charge of a garden where you can grow different fruits. The fruits have different uses like serving customers food, upgrading items in your villas or dyeing your clothing and hair! You can unlock different hair styles, features, clothing and accessories at higher levels.Screenshot_20170819-123918

Mini Games- When you are waiting for tenants to leave or crops to grow, you can take advantage of different mini games to gain extra revenue. One of the most popular mini games will be the Pinata Party.

  1. Pinata Party At Pinata Parties each guest donates 2 candies when they enter the host’s hot spring. The host can start the party once 10 candies are received. When the party starts, pinatas will start popping up over your screen and your goal is to tap as many pinatas as possible before time runs out (kind of like whack a mole). The top 3 players get to click on a prize box to receve coins or gems. Everyone else gets 100 coins as a consolation prize.
  2. Cuttlefishing – Cuttlefishing is a mini game that you can play solo or with a group. There is a time limit and you use a boat with 3 different hooks to try and catch fish. The best method is to try and catch the most combined weight of the fish. the larger fish will be at the bottom and are often blocked by obstacles like rocks, while the smaller fish are closer to the boat and easier to catch. You win coins based on the most combined weight.
  3. Treasure Hunt – There’s a treasure hunt party in which 2 or more players try and collect the most treasures. The kicker with this game is that it’s mostly luck. You roll the die and take the number of steps displayed. To catch treasure, you have to land exactly on the treasure space; yup, you can pass right by the treasures and have to circle the map to get back. I do like that there are power-ups on the map that can help prevent others from winning.
  4. Word Guess – Every 2 hours players can head to a community park and participate in the word guess game. You will be given a question with a blank and you only need to guess the letter that is inside of the word used to complete the sentence or question. Even if you don’t know the answer, you can guess a letter and win!
  5. Hunting Area – The hunting area is my least favorte activity. It’s pretty much fishing, but you have to keep tapping the line to reel in the animal. The larger the animal, the harder it is to reel in. It’s not my cup of tea and it hurt my finger playing the game lol.

Quests and Areas – You can also earn money by completing various quests on the game. Each day, you wil have a list of Daily Quests to complete. Upon completion, you receive XP and coins. There are also developmental tasks that give you more exerience and coins than the daily tasks. Screenshot_20170819-123744

There are different areas that you can visit like the Community Park, Friend’s Hotspring, Hunting Area and Treasure Island. These areas can be accessed by clicking on the World Compass. Each area has a different mini game and activities.

There are additional community activities like Fashion Shows and Boss battles (I haven’t been on to play any of these events yet as they are more infrequent).

Final Thoughts: I really like the game. It is targeted to anime fans, and I think it is targeted a bit more towards females, but I’ve seen plenty of males playing as well. It’s a great social networking game; as you benefit more from having friends that can send you candies, needed for tasks like the Pinata Parties. I feel like the graphics are what you would expect from any anime type game and the colors definitely fit the part.

As with all of my reviews, my top reasons to “Play” or “Skip” Sky Islands is listed below!

Play:

  • An addictive world building game like Farmville
  • Free To Play
  • A nice blend of activities

Skip:

  • Do not like Player Development games
  • Can be Pay To Play to advance faster in the game
  • Prefer more action

Thank you for reading the mobile game review! Have you heard of Sky Islands? What type of mobile games are you currenlty playing? Let’s talk mobile gaming!

Monopoly Gamer Board Game!

Happy Thursday Novas! Today’s post will be a review of the board Game Monopoly Gamer that I was able to play during my vacation last week with friends. Monopoly Gamer is not a traditional Monopoly Game that can take hours to complete. It is actually a game that ends once you fight the final boss in the bosses deck and the winner is the person who has the highest total points. Let’s jump into how you play!

20170810_183715

Just like any Monopoly Game, each player chooses their character and receives “coins” from the bank. The initial setup of the coins will be 1 “5 coin” and 5 “single coins.” The coins are used to buy properties on the map and also to fight the bosses. Each player takes a turn rolling 2 dice; one for movement and the second for Power Up Ability actions.

imageedit_3_3780247710

Think of the Power Up Abilities as you would if you were playing Mario Kart. The Red Shells can hit any player of your choice and force them to “drop” 3 coins on their current space. The Green Shell will make the player directly in front of you drop 3 coins. The Squid will allow you to steal 2 coins from any player. The POW icon will force all other players on the board to drop 1 coin. The 3 coins icon will allow you to receive 3 coins from the bank.

Character Abilities: Each character in the game has different abilities that you can use. There’s the Power Up ability and the Superstar Ability. When you roll the Power Up die, if you land on your characters specific power up, you get an added bonus. For instance, I use Yoshi and his Power Up Ability is the Green Shell. Instead of automatically hitting the person in front of me, I could hit the person behind me for coins. Yoshi gets the choice! On the map there are Star Spaces, if you land here you can use your Superstar Ability. The game starts with 4 characters; Peach, Mario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong, but you can buy alternate characters to use. We bought Rosalina, Fire Mario and Boo!

Board Spaces: When you are hit, you leave coins on the space that you are currently on. To make the game feel more like Super Mario, there are a few different spaces. The Warp Pipe allows you to move to the next Warp Pipe on the board (for added fun, make the warp pipe sound each time someone lands on the space lol). The Thomp Space makes you drop 2 coins (I make the Ummpf sound on this space lol). The Go To Jail Space is standard and we have explained the Star Space. The last space, other than property, is Coin Block Space. You will roll the numbered die and take that many coins from the bank (the ba ding! sound is best used here lol).

Gameplay and Bosses: So we have established that you roll your dice and move your character. Just like standard Monopoly, you buy up spaces to collect rent (each property also has points attached). If you don’t want to buy the property or you do not have enough coins, the property will be auctioned amongst the remaining players in the game. Any space that you pass with coins on them are yours to pick up (if you don’t forget). When you pass go, you collect 2 coins from the bank and you flip over the top “Boss Battle” card. 20170810_183726

The player who passes Go gets to fight a boss by paying the number of coins on the card. To win, you must roll the number equal to or higher than the number shown on the boss card. If you lose, the next player can pay the fight requirement and battle until someone beats the boss. Each boss card also brings a perk that you can use at anytime like being able to force a trade between 2 players. Spoiler alert, you’re fighting the Koopa Kids and ending with Bowser!

Once Bowser is defeated, the game immediately ends and the players tally their points. You add the number of points on your owned properties, to your boss fight points and the number of coins you have to decide the winner. Every 5 coins count as 10 points. That’s it! Bragging rights goes to the person who has the most points in the game and you didn’t have to play for 5 hours.

20170812_120755
My winning setup! Yoshi is OP because he collects all coins on the board lol.

Here are my top reasons to “Play” or “Skip” Monopoly Gamer:

Play:

  • A fresh new spin on Monopoly
  • A quick family board game
  • The character abilities makes each game interesting so the replay value is high
  • Affordable at about $24

Skip:

  • You don’t like Monopoly

I would give Monopoly Gamer a 4.5 out of 5! I wish there were more bosses as an expansion pack that you could buy (fighting the same bosses can get tideous).

What do you think of Monopoly Gamer? Have you played any different versions of Monopoly? If so, which are your favorites? What type of board games do you love to play? Let’s Talk Board Games!

Gaming Bailouts!

Happy Tuesday Novas! I have spent the last week with some friends and we have been playing all sorts of board games (review on Monopoly Gamer coming soon!). It’s crazy how much fun you can have making up scenarios and just playing with friends. Today’s post will collaborate with some of my blogging buddies to talk about some of our favorite Gaming Bail Outs in board and video games. What’s a gaming bailout? It’s when you use a feature of the game to get out of a sticky situation. Well let’s get to it!

My initial reason for this post was because we played a Monopoly Game called Monopoly Gamer. All of the properties were bought and we were running out of coins to pay people’s rent. So myself and my friend’s husband decided we were going to try and roll the exact number to step on the “Go To Jail” space rofl. That’s right, we wanted to go to jail so that we could forego paying rent for a few turns, tell me you haven’t done that before???

imageedit_2_4017548561

Chris from Overthinker Y told us about his favorite gaming bailout.

Fast travel to get me out of awkward situations would be amazing. Or quicksaving to try every conversation outcome and make sure I don’t say something dumb!

Adventure Rules chimed in as well!

In RPGs with a rest function (like KOTOR or Neverwinter Nights) if a group of enemies was giving me trouble I’d always run away, close the doors so they didn’t see me and start following, and then rest to get all of my health and abilities back. Then go back, open the doors and continue fighting!

Nathan from Hurricane Thought Process and I’s answers go hand in hand!

Mid boss fight when you’ve run out of health potions.Β  Oh, like when playing an RPG or Moba and you run out of mana. I would always hit the opponent with a basic and roll around until I regained enough mana to attack πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£

roll2

Kim from Later Levels Added in her gaming bailout as well:

In old-school adventures, when you get stuck, open your inventory and try everything with everything! You’ll usually find something completely random and illogical that’ll work.

Those are some of our favorite video game bailouts! Make sure to check out everyone’s blog for great video game content! What are some of your classic gaming bailouts? Are there any bailouts that you wish existed? Let’s talk video games!

Enjoy your Wednesday and Game On!

Favorite Call of Duty Game!

Happy Sunday Novas! Today is the culmination of the Call of Duty World Championship tournamnet that is taking place in my home of Orlando Florida! The COD World Championships is the biggest event of the year for professional COD PLayers and holds the largest prize pool: $1 Million Dollars. It’s no secret that this year’s Call of Duty Game (Infinite Warfare) wasn’t a fan or even pro favorite. Because I wasn’t really into the game, I didn’t watch tooΒ  much of the professional Call of Duty Scene this year. This also stems over to the World Championships. Since I’m out of town on vacation (ughhh I did want to attend the event but timing lol) I chose to just check Twitter for updates on the event. Anyway, because it’s a COD weekend, I wanted to have a discussion post about your favorite Call of Duty game!

My favorite Call of Duty Game of all time is Modern Warfare 2! Modern Warfare 2 or M Dubs as we called it, was the first COD game that I bought at a midnight release. This game holds some of my funnest and fondest gaming memories and was released November 10th, 2009. I remember playing the Spec Ops mode in which you were able to team up with friends to complete challeneges outside of the story mode. If you’re read most of my gaming posts, you will know that I am not one for playing a story especially in multiplayer heavy games. Spec Ops will little side missions that were super fun to play. My favorite missions were the stealth ones where you would used your Ghillie suits to blend in and snipe enemies.

The Multiplayer levels and movement of M Dubs was pretty awesome in my opinion as well. I don’t remember ever having too much lag or crazy things happening in the game due to conection. The controls were easy to use (and the same in just about ever FPS) and the levels themselves were pretty cool. My favorite level would have to be Estate but High Rise and Terminal were fun as well.

One of my favorite weapons appeared in MW2 as well, it was the Scar- H. This gun had no recoil, was insanely accurate and powerful. I actually thought that I was too good with this gun once I have my attachments and perks set up so I only used it when I was going try-hard mode.

My killstreak setup for multiplayer was almost always UAV, Harrier Strike and Pave low or UAV, Predator Missile and Harrier Strike! The UAV gave you enemy recon so that you could see enemies (not wearing cold blooded) on the map. the Harrier Strike was 3 jets flying over and dropping a bombardment of missiles on a single loctation and then 1 Harrier Jet stayed in the air to shoot enemy equiptment, players and even other airborn weapons,

the Pave Low was a helicopter that stayed in the air and shot at enemy opponents and the Predator Missile was a guided missle drop from the air.Β  Also the sound effects and soundbytes were some of the best “Tactical Nuke Incoming, It’s Over!” “Enemy Ac 130 Above!”

The Perks that I would use in the game varied based on the gamemode I was playing. I played mostly Team Death Match so I would use Marathon to sprint longer, Stopping Power to have increased bullet damage and Ninja to move silently (no one was hearing my feet lol).Β  I was mostly an AR player in MW2 but sometimes I would switch to a sub or sniper, depending on the level. For a Submachine Gun my perks would be Sleight of Hand to reload faster, Lightweight to move faster and Steday Aim to have increased hip fire accuracy. For a Sniper class I went all stealh with Scavenger to pick up extra ammo and equiptment, Cold Blooded to be undetectable by UAVs and Ninja to be silent.

If you haven’t played it, it is remastered and available on Xbox as well as PC.

Modern Warfare 2 is my pick for my favorite Call of Duty game of all time. What are your favorite COD games and why? What are your favorite perks, weapons or killstreaks? What are some of your favorite levels from any COD game? Are you following Competitive COD or any competitive game? Let’s talk Call of Duty Favorites!

Have a great Sunday!

Video Game Playlist

Happy Thursday Novas! Thank you for tuning in to today’s post. I want to apologize for the content slipping this week, but I am on vacation at the moment so getting around to blogging hasn’t been an easy task. Today’s post will be a look into music that I love to listen to while playing videos games!

It’s funny, I turn on music when I’m playing alone in games like Gears of War, Call of Duty or a sandbox game like Minecraft. Why, you say? Because music can help you focus, put you in a great mood and help you forget about your stresses. I like to consider myself a bit eclectic so the songs I will list here will span different genre’s. I encourage everyone to share some of your favorite songs to game to and I’ll add them to a spotify playlist for everyone to download.

The beginning: listening to music while playing video games started for me in the original Xbox days. If you have read my Evolution of a Gamer post, I talked about gaming starting with my brother Kenny and his journey into the new consoles. Well Kenny introduced me to games I probably would never have played, one of which was the Tony Hawk Pro Skater Games. I remember him first playing Pro Skater on his computer and her would have music paying in the background. When the game released for Xbox, Kenny would still have music playing through his computer and he pretty much put me on to music like Staind and Nickelback.

Once I had my own system, I started burning music on to the 360 to listen to at my leisure. Β tony Here are some of my favorite songs in which I played during Tony Hawk Games:

  • This is How You Remind Me – Nickelback
  • Price to Play – Staind
  • Hero – Nickelback
  • Senorita – Justin Timberlake

Most of the songs I listened to were Alternative and Pop while playing Tony Hawk. I’m not sure if it was the beat, the lyrics or the feeling on the songs, but they seemed to mesh well when I was kicking flips or grinding on rails lol.

First Person Shooters – When I delved into the world of First Person Shooters, the music that I turned on changed. Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 were my first experiences with FPS games and before party chat, I would play alone with my mic muted and play music. Here:s a sample of my FPS Playlist:

  • Lose Yourself – Eminem
  • Forgot about Dre – Dr Dre & Eminem
  • Lollipop – Lil Wayne
  • Shots – Lil Jon

You can kind of see the difference in the music choices for each game. I wanted more upbeat or hardcore music when I shooting people’s faces off lol. I wanted to feel like I was watching an intense action movie and the playlist had to match.

Strategy or RPG Games: When I started playing games like Fable and Oblivion, music still played a huge role in gaming. When you’re playing games like this and you’re alone, you have to do quite a bit of farming to gain the resources you may want or need. This tideous bout of compleing the same quests, killing the same enemies or searching for the same item can get monotonous. How do you combat the endless farming? Music of course! Here’s a sample of my RPG or RTS playlist:

  • La La Land – Demi Lovato
  • Hey Daddy – Usher
  • Danza Kuduro -Don Omar
  • The Way – Ariana Grande

This final playlist features more pop songs than anything. I need to be energized and feel motivated to continue questing. Below is a sample of my current Video Game Playlist!

That’s a list of some of my favorite songs to play video games to, what are yours? Do you have a specific time that you listen to music when you are gaming? Are there any memories that you have specifically about gaming and listening to music? Share your thoughts! Let’s talk Video Game Playlists!

Pokemon Battledome: Who do you choose!

Happy Tuesday Novas! Today will be a discussion post on you guessed it, Pokemon! For today’s post I wanted to ask other gamers which 3 Pokemon would they take into battle. This can be from any generation. Personally, I would take Charmander, Combusken, and Dratini because they are my favorites. Battle wise, I could be countered easily as 2 of my choices are fire types (but that’s only if my opponent knows who I am using bwahahaha).

Let’s set the scene: You are summoned to a battle arena for a tournament, but the details are vague. The only requirement is for you to bring 3 Pokemon to battle with… WHO DO YOU CHOOSE and WHY?

Luna- Aside from my answer above, I would probably really bring Machop, Haunter and Combusken. Β imageedit_2_2981487739Β  I feel as though, that’s a pretty good mix of characters and types to have with you in a blind battle and they are some of my favorites. Let’s check in with some of our friends to see who they are bringing to the rumble!

Mikey – My coworker Mikey prides himself on being a competitive Pokemon Player! He’s so crazy about it that he wanted more details on the rules and who he would face (type, tier level, etc). I again approached him with the description above on this post lol. After many changes he finally decided on 3…Here’s his response…

I would select Whimsacott, Slowbro and Megametagross.Β imageedit_4_3530078019Β  Whimsacott is the Lead setup against opponents and fastest taunter. Slowbro will be my defensive specialist tank that can take hits and output damage. Megametagross is my priority sweeper who hits hard and great has a finisher!Β

Erick: My co-worker Erickkkkkk who is another self proclaimed Pokemon master, selected Chimchar, Espeon and Blastoise as his partners in crime. imageedit_6_8096274036

Chimchar because hes my personal favorite and I love him! Espeon because they are beautiful and one of the most powerful special attackers and Blastoise because… well because NOSTALGIA!!!!

Rare: My homie from PS4 chimed in with his top picks for a Pokemon Battle as well!

I’d choose Dragonite because he’s super strong, Gengar for the strats and Dewgong because he’s crazy strong, especially against dragon types. imageedit_8_2477493524

Nathan From Hurricane Thought Process: I would choose Cubone, Squirtle & Eggsecutor because they are my all time favorites! imageedit_10_5602307796

Tim from Geek Out SouthwestDusclops because darn good defense. Haxorus because he’s only bested by Rayquayza for attactk, but her has a nicer move pool. Volcarona for Speed, Quiver Dance and great offense. imageedit_12_3001041546

Chris from Overthinker Y Rapidash, Hitmontop and Wailord because there are my favorites! imageedit_14_2215176843

NekoJonez -Absol, Alakazam and Groudon because they are my favorites. imageedit_16_8565110385

Kevin from The Mental AtticI’m one for the classics so I would choose Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno. I love those birds! imageedit_18_7600937720

You know how you have your Notable or Honorable mentions when selecting your favorites? Yea, well that doesn’t apply for my friend Emily here! She has more of an Un-Notable mention because of her answer!

Emily- I would choose Eevee because, I mean it’s Eevee!

Luna – Ok great and who else?

Emily – You don’t need anyone else, it’s Eevee!

Luna – Sooo you can’t do that?

Mikey – Yeah Emily, that’s against the “Species Clause.”

Luna – Is that a thing?

Emily – I don’t care, I would take 3 Eevees.

Luna – They’re all normal types, you have no diversity.

Emily – I’d have a pocket full of stones and no matter who is summoned, I can evolve Eevee right on the spot!

Mikey – You can’t evolve during a match -_-

Luna – Plus you can only evolve like 3 Eevee types with stones. Do you know anything about Eevee?

Emily – I mean it’s Eevee. THEY’RE CUTE!

Mikey & Me – Okay Em! lol imageedit_20_3363362111
