GamersUnitedGG Blogging Competition: Week 1 Standings!

  • On the designated due date all entries must be posted (you can post anytime before the due date). Submissions after the due date will be reviewed but not submitted for the challenge that week.
  • Make sure to link back to the prompt post (This Post) each week and place a link to your submission post in the comments section.
  • Each week the top 3 posts will receive 10, 7 or 5 points. All other participants will receive 3 points. At the end of the 3rd week, the participant with the most points wins (There will be 3 Winners).

Rewards:

  1.  1st Place will receive a large Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  2. 2nd Place will receive a small Mystery Box of gaming and geeky items!
  3. 3rd Place will receive a giftcard!

Challenge Prompt:

  • Week 1: January 8- January 15thYou’re designing a video game and the main character needs to be created. Describe your main character. What 3 power ups or abilities would you choose for the character and why?

Participants:

Flying Colours was the first participant to strike with the blue eyed, handsome male character who could fly!

superman
I think of a Superman type character!

I can see this character being a sort of Superhero in the video game and the added twist of him being able to transform into different people and read their minds backs up my assumption! I really enjoy comics and Superheros so I was excited about what a game with this character would entail.

Pix1001 from Shoot The Rookie came in to save the day with a tree hugging, environment saving, seemingly high angst character called Osha!

splatoon
I think of a cartoonish type character!

Aside from the cool name, Osha’s desription of the  “Torn jeans with big pockets for carrying stuff, short spiky hair and a T-shirt with a picture of her favourite bird on it” reminds me of a teen or young adult character that resembles a character from Splatoon! I can picture big animated features and I rebellious personality.  Pix did a fantatsic job of describing the abilities of Osha and I felt that Invincibility, Haste and Healing matched the character’s personality very well (I mean healing can do wonders for saving the planet!).

Daniel from Home Button was the final level in week 1’s submission and boy did he not disappoint! I really enjoyed Daniel running down the details of his character Jin Usagi in a sort of Dossier, FBI’s Most Wanted kind of fashion.

genji
I think of a Ninja type character!

Off the back I felt as if I were reading crime-fighting, assassin type game.  Jin is a trained killer (or so we believe) and he is “driven by honor, duty and loyalty” which makes him exceptionally charismatic. Daniel’s video game seems a bit darker and reminds me of the games like Metal Gear Solid or L.A Noire. I love how the main character is essentially on the run and portrayed as a high priority target.

All three entrants developed fantasic characters for their games and I can automatically visualize what each character might look like. Now let’s award the points for week one and don’t forget to clik on the links to read each participants’ response!

3rd Place receiving 5 Points – Flying Colours! While I enjoyed and could picture your character the other entrants gave a bit more detail and a name. Read Entry Here!

2nd Place receiving 7 points – Daniel from Home Button! Your entry was really well done and I love the premise! Read Entry Here!

1st Play receiving 10 points – Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie! I reallyyyy enjoyed your entry and the character profile. Your chracter makes me want to play the game immediately without knowing any other details! Read Entry Here!

Thank you for everyone that participated this week! Week 2’s prompt is live and I encourage everyone to enter! Remember, you can still enter week 1 and will receive the 3 Points for participation. The top 3 players with the most points at the end of Week 3 will receive the prizes! Check out week 1 and the official rules by clicking here!

What did you think of the competition on week 1? Who are your favorites and which character did you like the best? Submissions due next Wednesday 1/24/18 for Week 2 which is the Villain of your game!

November 2nd – 2846

November 5th –2107

November 6th – 2446

November 9th – 1453

November 10th – 2457

November 11th – 1255

Total Count 19986 (includes 99 words left over from last night).

I’m really proud that I have been making so much progress on the novel. I’m trying to stay motivated and dedicated as this will be the first novel that I have completed if I meet my goal. This post will include another excerpt from the novel. If you would like to read my first excerpt, please click here!

La Roja City, Mythonia  April 15th, 1523

“I am sorry to have to bring you this news Adrian, but you are now the head of the House of Star.”

The crown of his father was too heavy for the young prince and the burden of a country now lay at his feet. Adrian was a rambunctious boy who lived life as he saw fit. The day I had to tell him that he and his little sister Princess Lara were the last 2 remaining heirs of House Star, was the saddest day of my life. I could see his joy and happiness slipping away, but immediately I had to make sure that he was aware of the magnitude of this honor and on how quickly we had to move to install him as ruler.   son_of_morzan_by_murtagh231-d4by9kl

There’s no time for Adrian to grieve. His uncle is starting a petition throughout Mythonia to be installed himself, as king. It’s no secret that his uncle Bastion has been an envious brother to the deceased king. It’s no surprise that Bastion is reaching for the throne before the king’s body’s even cold yet. We have to make sure that the council and kingdom views Adrian as the heir apparent and a strong leader to place on the throne.

I have convinced the council to hold off on the coronation of Adrian until he has found a suitable bride and married her. We need a strong marriage and hope for an heir to really solidify Adrian’s position. My prince is very “Fluent” in the language of love. His courtly love games and flirtations are known throughout the kingdom and it has damaged his image as he is now expected to turn into a respectable citizen and ruler. We have to get him married quickly and before anyone realizes that there is another candidate in contention for the throne.

I’ve received numerous messages from kingdoms offering up their princesses to Adrian. He is handsome, rugged and has a zest for life so I’m in no way concerned about the suitors not being attracted and faithful. But we need supporters. We need a country that brings wealth, a strong lineage and a great reputation to bring validity to Adrian’s rule. When I received a letter saying that the Princess Ariana of Tamlonia had come of age, I knew that we had a perfect match. Tamlonia and the House of Tamlin is one of prestige and respect. Their trade routes are some of the most lucrative and the princess is the most eligible bride on the market. I contacted the ambassadors of Tamlonia and proposed the betrothal of Adrian and Ariana. 2 Young, beautiful rulers that will most definitely create heirs and unite the 2 kingdoms.

Sterling, Prince Adrian’s Advisor

What do you think so far? I’m really proud of my work and I know that the editing process will be the hardest part, but I’m optimistic! Are you currently tackling the NaNoWriMo challenge? If so, how’s it going? Are you currently working on any projects? Let’s talk writing!

NaNoWriMo Update & Excerpt!

Happy Saturday Novas! Today is day number 4 in the NaNoWriMo challenge and I am ahead of schedule in word count. I’m trying to keep up with my schedule and write everydayuntil I have nothing left to write. This way, if I miss a day or have writer’s block and can’t hit the target word count, I would have built up a safety net. A while back I posted about possibly sharing some clips from the story that I am writing and you guys were great in saying that you would love to read an excerpt. Well today will be the first day that I let anyone have a peak at the story. I hope you enjoy!

My Novel: A Dance With Destiny

Genre: Young Adult / Fiction / Period Drama

Blurb: A kingdom in turmoil, an heiress’ position being challenged, a forced betrothal. Can Princess Ariana carry on the family dynasty of the House of Tamlin with a 16 year old secret looking to take everything away? Told through the eyes of household characters, a journal floats around the land. How will she cope? Will she survive? And will she ascend as the ruler of the kingdom? It is truly a dance with destiny!

Fort Canon August 5th, 1523

We were ambushed, but we finally have time to rest. Lexington is lost and the nobles are searching for us to finish the job. The battle was lost, we didn’t stand a chance but I have the king with me. He’s bloody, but he’s alive and we have to get him to safety. The extraction unit is myself and 3 of the king’s knights who were not slaughtered at the feast. There were 12 of us 2 days ago, but the combination of the cold and lack of supplies has cut through our party like the plague. Julius, the youngest of the guards is a mere 14 years old, yet he has the gall of a man. He found this abandoned fort when I asked him to scout ahead. We have to rest because the king is unwell. His wounds are deep and he has lost a lot of blood. We can’t move him too far at a time. I cleaned the wound where the spear was launched from the crowd through his gut. The good thing about the mountains is that you can get water from melting the snow.

I didn’t think he was going to make it. After the attack I sliced the long end of the spear and carried his grace out. Lucky for me, Angelina had told me a story about a rendezvous that she used to have. She would use the servants entrance through the kitchen to get to the hall in Bancroft Manor. The servants entrance was littered with secret passages so I chose one and it lead us out behind the pig pen. Had I not known about this passage, I don’t know if any of us would still be alive. period This fort contains a few pieces of iron so I had a fire built to keep his grace warm. Plunging the iron bar that I have found into the fire, I cauterized the wound that is taking the life of my king. I cannot let him die, but if we do not find refuge soon, his grace will not make it. Julius caught 2 squirrels and we fed the king and allowed him to sleep. Now I stand watch and plot our next move. The problem is, that I do not know which cities are still loyal to us. Lexington has been loyal to the Tamlin Family rule for centuries, so if they’re turned, who knows who we can trust. I have a map of our surroundings so I know that Tarringdale and Santa Lucille are pretty close to us. I guess I’m going to have to pick one and hope to God that they have not turned against the crown.

There’s a snippet of the story. What do you think? Are you working on any projects or stories right now? Let’s talk!

-Luna 🙂

Halloween Story Challenge!

Happy Monday Players and thank you for turning on GamersUnitedGG! Last week we started a Guest Blog Challenge in which we want you guys to write short stories (500 words or less) in regards to our themes and submit them! The prize, well recognition of course, a spot on our Game Credits thank you page with your blog linked and a Guest Blog Post on GamersUnitedGG! We love interacting with the community and we’d love to get more bloggers to be featured on the site so have fun and participate!

Here’s my thoughts on the posts submitted:

I loved how Chris described the scenery of the mansion. He exhibited video game tendencies by allowing the reader to see the choices that were before him. I really felt like I was playing the game alongside of Chris and it was a big plus!  We’ve all been there choosing the wrong path like in Crash Bandicoot and having to go back to the fork in the road. This post brought back nostalgic memories for sure! And is it me or does it remind your of a Goosebumps Choose Your Own path book?

Ellen’s comedic response had me laughing from the start. I like how she incorporated other gaming classic characters in her response.  Her response reminds me of myself when playing games, if I hear something creepy I’ll try to not look at it. Because if you make eye contact it will eat you right?

Incognita’s post was really funny. It starts out very professional and sounds like a Memoir of sorts. She references the type of puzzle games where you have to find the key to get inside which was all too familiar. She exhibited typical video game behaviors like listening for footsteps and looking for clues. I could envision the game and the steps that were taken.

Each response was great and made me feel like I was playing the game so great job everyone!

The winner from the first week’s post is…. They will be choosing the theme for Next Week’s post! The Winner is… Drum roll please… drum-roll-gif-16

Daily Prompt: Recreate (Poem)

The Tamlin’s family throne is up for grabs,

Their monarch is dead and only 1 heir lasts,

How can the crown pass down to her?

She betrayed her family enciting a stir,

Before her beheading a pardon was passed,

High Chancellor why am I not condemned?

Do you wish to sink, if so you’ll swim?

I wish to protect those whom I must hate

Then build up the realm and Recreate

A rule that’s just and fair for them.

A tattered shirt falls to the floor,

The mercernary can be no more,

I wash away my treason and shave,

Princess to Queen I must now behave,

Well dressed and regal , I approach the court.

Sworn to rule I also vow to defend,

My people and my court for the evil within,

The oath is taken and vows are said,

The verses are spoken, I bend my head

Another prayer I owe this win,

I kneeled as Serena, a child ordained

I ascend to the top of the mountain of kings,

Presented to the world as next in line,

They praise and shout my name to the divine

Long Live the Queen, Forever shall I reign.

Daily Prompt: Recite

I’m marching to the beat of the rifleman’s arms,

Thinking about everyone who’d do me harm,

I am a Tamlin and we have no fear,

The sanctuary’s tolling sounds all too near,

Reciting the prayers I’ve grown to love,

Soon I’ll be soaring, with the doves,

Silas catches my gaze and before he could speak,

I warn him off, the price is too steep,

My piercing stare has broken his heart,

Mouthing “I Love You” from the spectators, please, don’t start,

The flood gates are opening, holding back the storm,

Chanting “Down with the traitor” a reception so warm,

My next step is wobbly, old noodles for legs,

Straighten your posture and hold up your head,

This crowd’s not behind me, they wish me dead,

I’ve taken their freedom with 1 single piece of lead,

Their ruler was a monster and had to be stopped,

“Do you wish to repent?” Sadly Father, I do not,

In truth I’ve saved them from hunger and strife,

Paid the piper my ferry; my mother’s life.

I Recite my final words and then don’t hear a sound,

The executioner beheads the talk of the town.

Grainy Ambition- Poem

Another roulette of suitors appear,

To bid for my hand like a souvenir,

Their finest silks and gold trimmed arms,

To seduce the kingdom with wealth and charm,

Pour them ale, overflow their cups,

The poison of pride, vanity and lust,

Touches their fingers and drips off their lips,

Powerful gluttons drinking sip after sip,

White foam is emerging from.2 of them now,

The party’s still going, feasting anyhow,

Now 3 or 4 more have taken a turn,

A grainy bit of poison all soon will learn,

Was sprinkled in the chalices of select lords,

They prayed for mercy so it’s given with a sword,

A swift stroke to relieve and ease,

The suffering of a noble brought on by me,

The banker’ s daughter who’s just as skilled,

As the person they’d swindled, my father they’ve killed.

Daily Prompt: Shimmer

shimmer

If once you’ve blinked I’d know you’re mine,

Then all the stars on us will shine,

Breath taken quickly from my lungs,

If I can keep you hanging on,

A perfect shimmer will do just fine.

Six Word Story Challenge: Poem

Happy Sunday Novas! I’ve found another blogging challenge and this one is for the 6 word stories! Here is my entry into this week’s post!

Her fire ignited his crimson spell.

Feel free to join the challenge over at the Sometime’s Steller Storyteller blog by clicking here.

This post will be a short poem on the 6 word story that I have submitted.

Ember’s breathe, a volcanic eruption,

Brought on by his dark seduction,

Wildly flying to escape his gaze,

Knowing not his trap, his maze,

Trying her best not to consume,

The tempting lust in the room,

He cornered her before she could strike,

And tamed her beast before the night,

Merlin cast his spell so well,

It iced and smothered her mood to kill,

Blinding lights she could not see,

The reality of this fantasy,

Merlin loved the beast so wild,

Reluctant as though she were a child,

Ember found a way to love him back,

Saving her from her devious acts,

Now they fly hand in hand

The dragon and her magical man.

Have a great day!
