Overcooked 2: First Impressions!

It’s Monday Funday and I hope you have all enjoyed your weekend! I’m back from my vacation and I have a few weeks worth of posts to write. To start off, I purchased a new game last week and I can’t wait to talk about it! Power Up Players for today’s first impression post for the game Overcooked 2!

Developer: Ghost Town Games

Publisher: Team 17

Release Date: August 7, 2018.

Platform: Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC (not cross platform)

Genre: Simulation

Price: $24.99 on Steam

Overcooked 2 is a chaotic co-op cooking game for 1-4 players in which you must serve a variety of recipes including sushi, pasta, cakes, burgers and burritos to hungry customers in a series of unconventional kitchens.

Premise: Overcooked 2 is the sequel to Overcooked where you play as a chef cooking and delivering orders to your patrons. I love a great cooking game and for a few months I have been trying to find an online cooking game to play with my friend Stephanie (Xsanie). She told me about Overcooked 2 and how the game will have an online multiplayer mode, unlike the original game that hosted local multiplayer only modes. This was all i needed to purchase Overcooked 2 on PC!

Story: Yes, the game has a story mode that’s actually pretty fun. You are helping the Onion King and his dog Kevin in the Onion Kingdom overthrow the zombie pieces of bread, known as “The UnBread (get it, get it lol).” To defeat these evil dough boys, you are tasked with journeying through the Onion Kingdom and learning recipes to feed to the evil doers. You and a party of up to 4 players journey through different levels, cuisines and outrages challenges to bring back fancy recipes to defeat the Unbread.

Replayability:  High replayability for me. There are different game modes other than the Story like Versus or Arcade mode that you can play. In Versus mode, you can play a public or private match where each player will pick a team and play in a 2 v 2 Cook Off! To win you need to make the most money from serving your customers. This game mode is intensified as you can sabotage your competition by taking their pans, stealing their ingredients or even taking their dish to serve to your customers. It’s super fun!

One of my favorite maps. Who doesn’t enjoy throwing food across a river rapids?

Difficulty: Surprisingly, the game gets difficult. There are different scenarios like dodging fire or running on treadmill that makes the simple task of cooking orders, quite difficult. Overcooked does an amazing job at easing you into more difficult recipes with 4 steps and mixing in an environment that’s not ideal to throw you off of your game.

Sights & Sounds:

Cartoon Galore! Your chefs are awesome chibi -like characters that come in different races, species and abilities. I love how Overcooked 2 is providing a diverse range of chefs showing representation in the game. One of my favorite characters to use if the Racoon on Wheels! The music is just what you would expect from a time based, simulation. It starts off sweet and happy and increases in tempo the closer you run towards the time limits.

Final Thoughts:

20180816213333_1

Cross platform play. Hopefully DLC in the future. I really enjoy playing games that test my reactions. Overcooked test your reaction time and problem solving skills making it a developmental and fun game for the entire family. A few things that I would love to see is Cross Platform Play! I have friends that have Overcooked 2 on the Switch so it would be awesome if I could play with them on my PC. I’m super excited to see if there will be any DLC in the future. Right now I have been playing the game for maybe 8 hours and there’s still plenty of story left. I can see myself playing and relaxing in Overcooked for a while.

Play & Skip: Fun for the family! Frantic fun! Level difficulties increase. * frazzled easily , need to cooperate with others. If you love a challenge, this is the game for you!

Play

  • Frantic Fun for the entire family!
  • Test your reaction skills
  • If you love a challenge, this is the game for you!

Skip:

  • If you get frazzled easily, maybe skip this one
  • Not a fan of cooking games

Thank you for reading today’s First Impressions Post! Have you played Overcooked 2? What games are you currently playing? Let’s talk!

Raft: First Impressions!

Happy Saturday Novas! Vacation is over and I’m super excited to talk about a new survival game that I have been playing. Power Up Players for today’s First Impressions Post on the video game Raft!

Developer: Redbeet Interactive

Publisher: Axolot Games

Release Date: May 23rd, 2018

Platform: PC

Genre: Survival

Price: $19.99 on Steam

By yourself or with friends, your mission is to survive an epic oceanic adventure across a perilous sea! Gather debris to survive, expand your raft and be wary of the dangers of the ocean!  -https://raft.itch.io/raft

20180816170156_1

Raft is a unique survival game where you start on a 2 x 2 plank raft with a shark circling you and a plastic hook in hand. To start surviving and building your raft into a respectable home, you will use your plastic hook to grab items floating in the ocean. Listen, I know this game sounds like it’s no fun at all, but playing with my friend Xsanie, we have been having a blast surviving the ocean a la Castaway style! The game is still in development and available for Early Access, but I’m mostly happy with the progress so far.

Game Play-

20180714004736_1

The game play is enjoyable as you build and create a raft to survive. You can make your raft as luxurious (with paint, hammocks and furniture) or as minimalist as you would like. Many items can be found by reef diving in the water, but make sure you have the shark distracted or he will bite you. You can die from the shark, your health going to 0, starvation and not having enough water. I think I really enjoy having to multi-task, protect the raft and make sure that Xsanie and I have food and supplies to survive.

Research-

20180714005137_1

When we found out how to research items in the game, a entirely new experience was created. When the game is started, you have based recipes like how to make a base for the raft, water purifiers and grills. Once you build a Research Table, you can place items like wood, plastic, rope, etc into the table to unlock new crafting recipes. This open ups possibilities for comforts, upgraded grills & purifiers and more.

Danger-

20180713230405_1
1st lesson…Stab him with the pointy end!

Jaws is a constant thorn in your side throughout the entire game. I thought I could be smart and build my important items in the middle of the raft, because the shark can bite off pieces of your structure. I was wrong! The shark sometimes comes out of nowhere and bites the middle of the raft!!! How does that even happen? Once the shark bites off a piece of your raft, any item located on the section sinks to the bottom of the ocean. It’s quite annoying actually. Once you have a garden planted you also have to watch out for Seagulls that will fly in and eat everything.

Final Thoughts – I really enjoy raft and it’s a great game to play with a friend. Once the raft begins expanding, it’s great to have the extra pair of eyes and hands when the sharks or storm attacks the boat. Raft is currently in Early Access and there have been noticeable glitches like when you can’t see your hook and you miss barrels because of it. Hopefully the games gets an update that improves the experience, but all in all, it was worth the $20 that I spent. I will say it’s a bit tedious after floating for 3 hours so having different modes or even having larger islands that you can explore and stay on for longer periods of time would greatly improve the game.

This is the section of my reviews where I like to list my top reasons to Play or Skip the game.

Play:

  • A unique new survival game
  • Multiplayer Fun
  • Crafting Fun

Skip:

  • If you get seasick lol
  • If you prefer survival games where you can explore land and new areas

Round 1 – Great Baddie Bake-Off: The Arbiter!

Happy Monday Novas! Today is our entry into Round One of the Blogger Blitz: Black Sheep Competition! Don’t know what the Blogger Blitz community event is, click here for official rules and the lineup schedule. I am competing against Chris from OverthinkerY and his champion or should I say Villain, Master Xehanort from the Kingdom Heart Series. Below is  my case for why Thel Vadam, formerly known as The Arbiter will smash the competition! Power up Players for the Great Baddie Bake-Off!

Why did I accept this invitation again? I’m a great commander of the covenant armies and I am here with this Heartless Apron heartless that is a size too small and a counter of appliances…. NO INGREDIENTS! At least old Xehanort over there was slighted as well. He’s bald, smells like Bengay and doesn’t look like he has a clue on what’s going on. This is going to be a Piece of Cake… haha.

tumblr_njpf0grVvU1tob1xvo1_r1_500

If matters can’t get any worse, there’s a strange kid in the back of the kitchen wearing a hood. He’s probably here for an autograph, but when I send my grunt assistant to tell him to go away, he straights stab the grunt and he falls to the floor.  Guess that’s another twist I will have to deal with. Good thing I’m in no shortage of Grunts! I grab my kit from the orange grunt that keeps dropping my mixing bowl on the ground.  covenant grunt Laying out my ingredients I see the jars of purple Grunt Blood and line them up on the metal table. Old man Xeha over there walks away so I switch his frosting with the Grunt Blood. What can I say, some insurance for the judges.

One of my grunts mention a fridge 2 hallways over. I take out my energy sword and make my way towards the creepy kid that has managed to stab 3 more grunts. The goo on the ground isn’t sanitary, but at least it’s not next to my station. I use the slippery floor to slide past the Tonberry and I take a swipe with my energy sword. That should take care of him. I locate the fridge and place eggs, flour, butter, milk, cream and sugar in my basket. I hear the annoying shriek of another grunt. When I return to my kitchen, the Tonberry has stabbed another one. This little guy is tougher than he looks. tonberry

I throw a spike bomb at the Tonberry and glide past him again. When the smoke clears, the little fella is slowing moving towards us. He would be a great addition to my Covenant army. I reach my station to find Xehanort’s table unattended. I invoke my invisibility armor and take small Flood Growth Pods to replace with the eggs on his station. cloak I quickly return back to my table and begin mixing the cake.

The batter is finally placed into the oven that was preheated to 350 degrees. Now to take out our little friend. I pull out a Plasma Rifle and begin firing at the Tonberry getting ever so close to us. After unloading 2 clips into the Tonberry’s chest I call for my vehicle. ghost A grunt crashes the Ghost through the wall, barely missing the oven. I shoot him out of the seat and turn the thrusters on to the ram the Tonberry. I hit him 3 times with my ghost at full blast, but the kid pops up like an inflatable and continues his mission which is surely to destroy myself and Xehanort.

I begin setting up shields in front of my station. I’m sure the human judges will still expect a cake at the end of this. deployable_cover2 The timer for the oven rings and I jump over the table to grab the 3 cake pans out of the oven. I set them down to cool. The filling I’m using is a strawberry raspberry jam that my mother used to make. Once the ingredients are properly pureed, I start building the 3 tier cake placing the layer, filling, layer filling method. Now it’s time for the decorations.

I have frosting that is white, black, yellow and red and I begin creating the masterpiece that will tower above and foil Xehanort’s plan for winning. There is one more element I need before I am able to complete the cake. I peer over to Xehanort who has begun tasting his cake. He grimaces from the first bite and frantically looks around. There’s no time for him to complete another cake and it looks like those flood eggs and grunt blood extras has thrown him for a loop. Flood_wall

To further distract the old man I have 3 of my grunts dress up as a human named Sora, a duck and a mouse. My grunts are finally doing something well as they run about his table taking items and playing a game you humans call “Keep Away.” A flustered Xehanort forgets that the Tonberry is approaching us and I instruct my grunts to lead him to his make. He chases the trio and winds up slipping on the spilled grunt’s blood from earlier stabbings landing directly in front of the Tonberry. I like the icing off of the wooden spoon in anticipation of what will happen next.

*BRGNNNNNNNNNNNNN*

“That’s it contestants! It’s time to judge the Great Baddie Bake-Off and crown the Greatest Baddie Baker!”

Just in time. I grab a keyblade from the Xehanort’s table and lean it against my cake for the judges. Xehanort returns to his station holding his arm. Not sure how many times he was stabbed, but he looks to be in bad shape. My cake is an inspiration and SOARS above the table. A picture of the cake is below:

Sora
A delicious recipe don’t you think?

The Tonberry is still chugging along so I offer him some of my opponents cake. The sour taste enrages the Tonberry and he fixates on Xehanort who is now pleading for mercy on his knees. Pathetic. I stand with my energy sword in hand while the judges cut into the beautiful cake that I have built. The screams of Xehanort being attacked all but fuel the joy and happiness I feel inside. Now I await, the decision…

Xsanie’s Art Corner Bio!

Hi, my name is Stephanie, but online I go by Xsanie.

Welcome to my art corner!

Here I will be uploading my work whenever I finish a project or shall I say Luna will be uploading my work XD Thanks in advance Luna. I’m originally from New Jersey now Living in a small town in Illinois.

I have always loved art and drawing since I was a kid. It has been sort of an escape from the darkness I deal with on daily basis. I wanted to be an artist, a art teacher, or a video game designer. But that didn’t happen so I thought my dream had died.At the end of the day I still love art, so I feel now that as long as you love something enough the dream keeps going.

I decided that even though I felt my art wasn’t good enough I needed to get over myself and my fears, I needed to share my art with the world . My art is a reflection of my mind and emotions I mostly draw what I feel that being sad, happy, excited, angry, or whatever emotion I am feeling at the time.

I sometimes do draw what I see but it’s usually something I really really like. Through my art I would like to share those thoughts and feelings. In time I hope that someone can relate and know that they are not alone. That we all struggle with our dreams and lives. We all have to find our light that helps us see even in our most darkest days.

Happy Bat Girl Art!

Today we are lauching Xsanie’s Art Corner! Xsanie is one of my best friends and she has finally built up the courage to show her work. Feel free to find her on Twitter to chat and show appreciation!

Memoirs of A Villain: Thel Vadam; The Arbiter!

I’ve lived the life on both sides of the coin. Being a villain or a hero brings different challenges as you are faced with tough decisions ahead. But I am not here to speak on my conversion to the side of heroes. I am here to recount my transgressions, both good and bad as The Arbiter and head of the Covenant Armies.

My name is Thel Vadam and I am a disgraced commander given a second chance to honor and spearhead the survival of my Sanghelli species. The Sanghelli are fierce warriors and we will stop at nothing to make sure that our race is protected and respected. I was approached by the Council to become the new Arbiter in their campaign to stop humans from looking to render my kind extinct. I accepted this high honor and swore to protect the High Prophets with my life.

During my work with the Prophets, I’ve made sure to eliminate all obstacles in our way. Humankind is not our friend and bloodshed is the only way to get results and ensure the survival of my people. My weapon of choice is an energy sword that can rip through its opponent with lightning speed.  THEL-VADAM While the cowardice of the humans’ soldiers uses guns to eliminate their targets from a distance, we Sanghelli fight with honor in close combat. halo

When I train for battle, I use my length and agility to attack with swift and precise blows. I am an ace shot with the Covenant Plasma Rifle and I have one conveniently strapped to my leg. I hit a combo strike with the Energy Sword and dodge behind my target while reaching for my Plasma rifle and taking the shot straight to the head. I’ve worked hard to increase my combat skills and I will work even harder in every task.

My next challenge is a Baddie Bake-off with one of the more devious humans who goes by the name Xehanort. Master_Xehanort This challenge was issued by a mortal from Adventure Rules. I’ve heard of this competition before where challengers are competing in tasks to find out who reigns supreme. I’d almost dismissed this silly invitation until my competitive edge kicked in. Humanity will soon be destroyed, but why not humiliate them in the Bake Off challenge. My planet has the finest cuisines that only a refined pallet can comprehend.

I’m bringing the heat from the Flood, the taste of the Sanghelli and the brains to win this Baddie Bake-Off. The challenge is a week away and I am already compiling recipes that will tantalize and show the superiority of the Sanghelli. I’ve had the honor of baking pastries for the High Prophets and they were well received. I will show the strength of the Sanghelli next week, August 6th and take yet another triumph over Humans… before they are enslaved!

Video Game World Cup Submission!

Power up Players for the Video Game World Cup event hosted by Pix1001 over at Shoot the Rookie! Pix looks to create the best video game soccer team to compete against the best athletes and teams competing in the World Cup. I’m not an expert in soccer by any means, but I did play for a season in 10th grade. I’m selecting my characters based off of what I remember from those glorious days of playing Sweeper or Half-back. For official rules and to enter your characters, click here!

For my submission, I have selected 4 great characters that many may not have considered as great additions to the team. Let’s start off with one of my star players; Beat from Jet Set Radio!

Beat1

In the Jet Set Radio games, Beat is the lead character who rollerblades around at ridiculous speeds. His agility, speed and reaction times can greatly assist in scoring. I would put Beat at the Forward or Half-Back Position. Beat This way he can play defense or offense using his speed. Beat has tremendous Power, Above Average Technique and Outstanding Graffitti skills (I mean in case he has to tag someone lol).

My second star player shouldn’t be much of a surprise; Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2.

Shadow

Shadow is a great pick for his speed, sick moves and determined attitude. Just like with Beat, Shadow would do well as a Forward or Half-Back as he’s not likely to shy away from a rough battle with an opponent. Shadow can also hone the power of a Chaos Emerald to increase all of his abilities and senses. With Shadow, he can out maneuver players, slide through opponents and quickly shift gears to score the goal. Did I mention that Shadow can keep up with Sonic? shadow1

We need a great Sweeper to play defense and help out the goalie. My sweeper would be Crash Bandicoot!

Crash1

Why, you may ask? Remember Crash is use to jumping, sliding and spinning his way through different terrains and obstacles. Crash can use these abilities to block the ball when players are taking a shot at the goal. Even better, Beat can graffiti the soccer ball as one of the fruits from the Crash series and Crash’s motivation will be amplified.  It’s full proof! Crash is an excellent sweeper and will greatly help out the only character that I would have in the goal… I’ll give you a hint… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My goalie is none other than the King Koopa himself… BOWSER! Bowser1

Tell me Bowser wouldn’t be a great goalie? He takes up most of the goal by size alone, he can roar loud enough to change the direction of the ball and have you seen Bowser in Mario Tennis? This big Koopa has moves! He can dive, scratch and claw his way to protecting the goal at all costs. In a shootout situation, Bowser’s intimidation techniques alone will send the soccer players running for the hills. Bowser His corner kicks will reach the other side of the field where Shadow and Beat can capitalize and score the goal.

I think I have put together a great team of characters for Pix to choose from! Do you agree with my picks? Who would you choose? Feel free to participate in the comments and write your own submission post to the contest. Pix is accepting submissions up until July 10th!
