30 Day Challenge Video Game Edition: Day 12!

Happy Monday Novas! Thank you for tuning in to today’s blogging challenge post. By now you know the rules but if not, we are participating in a daily writing challenge. Each day, for 30 days, bloggers will post about the topic of the day (refer to the 1st post to view the entire month’s questions). Let’s get into today’s topic!

Day 12 – A game everyone should play

Now, I’ve already answered this question before in the Video Game Tag that we’ve created (click here to read post!). Since there are so many video games to play, I can definitely recommend some more. I’ve had to think about this question because I didn’t want to mention games that I have already posted about. One game I think that everyone should play is Minecraft on PC. I’m sure you know about the game phenomenon Minecraft by no. It is available on consoles, handhelds and PC’s but everyone should play the PC version.

Why PC Minecraft? – While I do prefer console gaming, Minecraft is one of the exceptions to the rule. PC Minecraft is amazing because there’s so much you can do on it compared to consoles. Minecraft is a sandbox game in which the community can create maps, games, servers and more for others to enjoy. I’ve played games like the Blocking Dead survival (get it, get it), Block Party (which is essentially musical chairs) , Hunger Games and even Hide N Seek! You can play group games like factions, have scavenger hunts or just lay a good ole survival game. Playing on PC also allows you to insert mods, custom skins and texture packs for your games (I’m currently playing on the My Little Pony texture lol). It’s just amazing and there’s so many games and servers to play on. One of my favorite experiences was playing on a Mianite Fan Server.

Mianite was a YouTube survival multiplayer series by Syndicate, Jericho, Captain Sparklez and more. It was a daily series that I watched on YouTube so when a fan server came out, I had to play (and record some episodes lol). Pretty much you joined a god’s team: Mianite god of good, Ianite goddess of justice and balance or Dianite god of evil. Based on your joined team, you would try to use those core values when playing (I was Ianite). It was really fun! Here’s one of my mini games recorded a few years ago.

That’s my answer for today’s topic. Have you played Minecraft on PC? What’s your recommendation for a game that everyone should play? Let’s talk games!

Xbox Game Pass Thoughts!

Happy Monday Novas! I hope your weekend was spectacular! I wanted to post a quick blog about the new Xbox Game Pass Subscription Service that has launched for Xbox One. Shout out to Falcon Game Reviews for blogging about it, because as soon as I read it, I signed up lol. Sure enough I turned on my Xbox One and the trial was there for me to try out. So of course I did! Since I’ve previously been subscribed to PlayStation Now and Gamefly, I figured I could try out Xbox’s Version of paying to play!

What is it? The Game Pass Subscription is a service similar to PlayStation Now and Game-fly where you pretty much are able to download select games and play them at your leisure! Since the service is fairly new, the selection is limited but they are planning to update and cycle games continuously. You will also receive a discount on purchasing games to have permanently in your library. With the Game Pass service, you can quickly download and play games for as long as you have a valid subscription. Sounds easy enough, right?

My Experience: I was really happy to try out the new service. I immediately downloaded Saints Row IV, The Unwritten Tales 2, Halo 5 and Lego Batman . I haven’t played Saints Row IV before, but I am a fan of the series and The Unwritten Tales 2 game was interesting in it’s premise. I’ve never played a “Lego” game and wanted to try that out and I have yet to play Halo 5. I was happy with the speed in which the games downloaded and I started out with the Unwritten Tales 2!

Saints Row IV was amazing and everything that I thought it would be. I’m a little annoyed with myself because I was only able to play 2 days of my 14 day trial (my life has gotten soooo busy lately) which means I wasn’t able to play Lego Batman or Halo 5 as of yet. I want to actually talk more about The Unwritten Tales 2. I have never heard of this game but it looked fun from the appearance. The game aesthetics reminded me of Fable (you know how much I love Fable lol) so the game caught my attention immediately. Upon reading the games description…

“A fantasy story with over 20 hours of pointing and clicking The trademark BoUT-humor, lovingly spoofing LotR, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Discworld, The Hobbit, WoW and more Hundreds of weird, yet oddly logical puzzles…”

Yup, that description pulled me in 100%! The game is a point and click game which is fine, what I love is that you pretty much get to choose from the responses listed below. You also have to use clues presented to figure out what to do next. image   It’s not just spelled out for you. I highly recommend The Unwritten Tales 2 and it was a great find with the Game-pass program for me. I really enjoyed it so I will be continuing the subscription service for now.

I’ve decided to list my top reasons to Play or Skip the Xbox Game Pass Service based on my personal experience.

What Next?- I have committed to at least a month of the Xbox Game Pass subscription. I will be downloading and trying Payday 2, Farming Simulator and this Hexic puzzle game for sure. My downfall is I want to play so many games that I know I won’t have much time for (it’s what corporate America wants lol). You know what that means right? I’ll probably continue the service for more than a month bwahahahaha. Touche Microsoft… you’ve got me lol!

  • Easily access your gaming Library
  • Download multiple games that interest you
  • Try out games that you have never heard of with no commitment
  • Quick Start up of games
  • Different game genre’s from RPG’s to Indie games

  • You want to play specific games. Many of the games are plat-formers and games from Xbox 360.
  • You want more than about a 50 game selection (it actually may be less) at this time.
  • You do not find any games that you are interested in playing during your 14 day trial
  • $14.99 a month is out of your budget

Those are my thoughts on the Xbox Game Pass Subscription service. I really think it’s a great investment for me, however, we all know gamers come in all forms. I personally like being about to try out new games (plus there’s plenty of puzzle games for me to play). I also like finding hidden gems  I’ve never heard of and playing through the story. I hope you will give at least the trial a try. Have you ever purchased a gaming subscription before? Let’s talk Video Games!

30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day 11!

Happy Sunday Night Novas! The post is coming late today because I wasn’t able to write it earlier. Hey, better late than never am I right? For those of you who are new to the blog, at the beginning of June we joined in with other bloggers on the 30 day blog challenge. Basically, we are responding to questions and blogging about them every day for 30 days! Feel free to comment or join us on this excursion. Let’s see what today’s topic is…

Day 11 – Gaming system of choice.

Great topic! There’s different gaming systems and platforms for gamers to use to play their favorite games. This answer won’t be much of a surprise to Novas that have been following for a while. I’ve decided to answer this question in 2 parts: My favorite current console and my all time favorite console. My favorite gaming system currently is the Xbox One. I prefer the Xbox One console to the PS4 or to PC for many reasons.

  • I love the controller
  • I love that I can hook my cable box up and watch tv as I play
  • I love Microsoft
  • Xbox has my favorite game… Gears of War 4

The second part of my answer to today’s question will be my overall favorite console of all time. It’s going to have to be the Nintendo 64. I’ve already paid my respects to this gaming system in one of the Throwback posts.Click Here to read it! Pretty much the Nintendo 64 provided me with awesome memories as a kid. Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, Wave Race, Diddy Kong Racing, Pokemon Snap, Mario Party, etc.

Plenty of awesome memories that I will not forget and the 64 is the reason why.

Those are my 2 answers for favorite video game system, what are yours? Do you agree with my choices? Let’s talk gaming consoles!

30 Day Challenge Video Game Edition: Day 10!

Happy Saturday Novas! Welcome back to day number 10 in our 30 day blogging challenge! You’re welcome to comment or even participate in the challenge to talk about some of your favorite video game topics! I love this challenge because it’s a quick way to make sure that you are blogging everyday! And did I mention it’s fun! Shout out to our other blogging buddies that are participating in the challenge : The Shameful Narcissist, Thero159 & Khinjarsi! Feel free to check out their answers to the questions of the day as well! If you are also participating in the 30 day blogging challenge, let me know so that I can read your responses! Now on to today’s topic:

Day 10 – Best Game-Play

What I love about video games is that everything is subjective to what your personal interests are. We have gamers that love First Person Shooters (FPS), Gamers who love Strategy and RTS (Real Time Strategy) games. We have our fighting community, our RPGs (Role Playing Games) and even our puzzle gamers. Today’s question is definitely going to be based on your personal tastes more than anything.

My first choice for Best Game Play is a RTS game known as Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution. Civ Rev on Xbox 360 was my first encounter of a Real Time Strategy game in quite some time. I remember my friends on Xbox were telling me about the game and there was a free trial available so I gave it a go. I fell in love and since then , I have played and purchases Civilization 5 & 6 on PC. With Civ Rev, you select a leader (leader’s from history like Lincoln, Genghis Khan and Napoleon and build your cities. Each leader will have special advantages based on the type of civilization you are controlling. For instance, the Romans and Caesar have a cultural bonus boost, the Germans are military force and the Japanese have boosts to science and technology. You will use these bonuses to try and win a victory before the other players in your game.

What Makes this game amazing? – I love that there are so many moving parts to think about when you are playing. You start with 1 group of settlers and you have to create your capital city. The strategy comes in by deciding what’s going to be the best way to start off your civilization. Certain areas of the map allow you to obtain core resources that are essential to your city’s development and growth. Green spaces provide food for the population, mountains provide production for your buildings, water provides science for your colony’s advancement, all of those things are taken into account when playing. Once your city is established you are in charge with developing your city and taking over! diplomacy

Another feature of the game is that you can create armies and take over other cities. The win requirements of a normal game would be by Domination Victory, Economic Victory, Cultural Victory or Scientific Victory. The first player to satisfy the win requirements for any of these options wins the game. Domination Victory means that you have captured all of the other capital cities in the game by force. Launch your warships, ready the tanks or catapults if you’re brave) and send your troops to take over. Any cities captured are added to your civilization and will bring their resources to help your fight! Check out the official trailer below.

Welp! This post ran longer then I thought with my choice of Civ Rev so this will be the only game play option today (can you tell I really love this game lol)! Have you played any of the Sid Meier’s Civilization games? Which games are your picks for best game play? Let’s talk video games!

30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day 9!

Happy Friday Novas! We have been diving into our game library and answering questions related to video games each day. I believe that we have favorite games and characters so we want to relate those experiences to our posts.  Let’s see what today’s topic is!

Day 9- Saddest Video Game scene

There’s been a few heartbreaking moments for me in my video game history. If you follow the blog consistently then you will recall that I’ve talked about my traumatic experiences with Fable III. One of the saddest scenes is at the beginning when you have to choose between the life of your best friend or innocent villagers. How are you supposed to make the choice on who you would rather die? I’m not going to lie, I was a little choked up with that decision.

Another sad gaming scene is when one of the main characters, Dom,  was killed off in the Gears of War franchise. It’s sad because he lost his family to the locusts, he searched for his wife to only find she had been killed. To top it off, they put him out of his misery. It was a very difficult scene to watch for me.

It’s a short post today because I don’t have my laptop with me lol. What are some of the saddest gaming scenes in your memory? Let’s talk video games!

Netflix Series of The Week: Riverdale!

Happy Friday Novas! It’s been a few weeks but the Netflix series of the week posts are back. They will be posted every other Friday! I know I have to review 13 reasons why but honestly I haven’t felt like watching it lately. Not because I don’t think it’s good, but because I know it’s really sad. Eventually I will watch it. I actually binge watched Riverdale last week so what a way to revamp the series!

Plot: Riverdale is the series on The CW where the old school comics of Archie are brought into the modern era. I haven’t read Archie, but I remember the shorts in the newspaper when I was a kid. As someone who didn’t know the back story I really, REALLY enjoyed the series. The story takes place in the city of Riverdale, just after summer break. You’re placed smack down in the middle of a missing person investigation.

Jason Blossom, son of the wealthiest family in town went missing on the 4th of July at Sweetwater River. The last person to see him; his twin sister Cheryl. Archie and friends are living their lives around the biggest town mystery and the normal turbulence of a teenager’s high school days.

Characters: I’ve read some reviews on Riverdale and the controversy between how characters are portrayed in the series. Personally, I really liked the characters and the actors commissioned to star in the role did an amazing job. You have Archie, the friendly boy he is all about helping people. Archie has some deep dark secrets and those are revealed early on in the series. Next you have Archie’s best friend and typical girl next door Betty. Betty is smart, beautiful and determined. Yet, Betty also has secrets in her life. Betty is one of my favorite characters.

You have Jughead, the neighborhood couch surfer that writes about the lives around him. Jughead is from the wrong end of the tracks and has a slew of problems ranging from family life to personal struggles. Lastly, you have the new girl in town Veronia Lodge. From the moment Veronica hits the scene you know that she is rich, snobby and out to make the most of her new life.

Alternate characters that I love are Cheryl Blossom and Josie. I really think that the actress playing Cheryl did a great job of playing the antagonist. I love shows that have convincing antagonists that you love to hate. It makes the series that much more interesting. I figure it’s the same premise as a good book having a great villain. Cheryl is popular, rich, beautiful and smart. That makes her character more engaging when shes stirring up trouble between Archie and the gang. She’s the typical mean girl in school.that you hate, yet everyone wants to be her friend.

There’s a new take on Josie and her cats. Josie takes on a more cool role then from the comics. She’s a total diva and her crew are beautiful, talented pussycats take over all of the school’s music functions. Josie doesn’t take no for an answer, she doesn’t let anyone take the reigns of her crew and she doesn’t care. Her sassyness and talent are interesting contrasts to the series.  Both Josie and Cheryl are awesome female powerhouses that add interesting elements to the series.

This is the section of my reviews where I will list my top reasons to watch or “Play” and not watch or “Skip” the series.

  • A fresh new take on the Archie series.
  • A great teen drama/mystery show
  • Episodes are more interesting the further you get
  • Cole Sprouse!

  • You don’t like variations in classic stories
  • You get annoyed with teens doing stupid things lol
  • Don’t skip, watch itttttt lol

Thank you for tuning in. Have you watched Riverdale? Have you read the Archie comics? What are you currently binging on Netflix? Let’s talk Netflix!

30 Day Challenge Video Game Edition: Day 8!

Happy Thursday Novas! I’m cheating on this answer as well because I don’t want to repeat games that have already talked about. Trying to keep it a little diverse here. Oe of the features that make’s video games amazing are the memories that we associate with them. One of the most powerful forms of association is the integration of music, more specifically the soundtracks in the video game. Let’s see what today’s topic is.

Day 8 – Best soundtrack.

I  rockband  would say the game with the best soundtrack is Rock Band 2. Yes, this is a cop out answer because it has hundreds of songs in the library that you can download and play. Rock Band 2 had so many fantastic songs from some of my favorite artists. Between rock band and guitar hero games, my spotify has songs that are so nostalgic to me. Some of the songs I’ve first heard on the video games. It’s funny because I was listening to Can’t be Saved in the car and I just moved my hands as if I were playing the guitar. It was a great feeling.

My real answer to this question would probably be oblivion,  fable 2 or super Mario 64. These games have amazing soundtracks to me. Starting with Oblivion. I love how the music in the town differed from music in the dungeon. Even in ESO now, you will have great music throughout the game that will have you feeling happy, anxious or scared for your life. The subtle shifts in the music is what makes games great for us to play.

Fable 2 is the same way. When you’re going through the village, the music is calming and warm. You can feel the community atmosphere. When you’re learning new abilities the music changes to a more determined theme. When you’re fighting monsters a more heroic style of music plays. As a gamer, your style of play adjusts to the music that you are hearing as well.

Lastly, Super Mario 64! I can still hear the music in Peach’s castle after completing a level. It’s so uplifting and fun. You feel as if you want to explore and play around with Mario’s different jumps (ya, yahoo,  whoopie) lol. Playing the dark levels where you would encounter Bowser or a boss fight was epic. The shift in the musics undertones allowed you to get in the competitive mind frame. You start to feel the adrenaline pumping, your hands my become clamy, hearts racing… its amazing! Check out my favorite song below!

Those are my picks for the best soundtracks. I’ve stayed true to games that I’ve actually played. I’ve watched gameplay for Dark Souls, Dragon Age and Bloodbourne, but since I haven’t played it myself I won’t mention them. Also notable games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy have amazing soundtracks, but again I haven’t played these games. Which video games do you think have the best soundtracks? Let’s talk video game music!

May Lootcrate: Guardians Theme!

Happy Thursday Novas! Thank you for checking out last month’s lootcrate unboxing post. I apologize that the post is a week late, however, my brother didn’t tell me that I had a package until a few days ago haha. Last month’s theme was Guardians so let’s see what we have!

Each Lootcrate contains a T shirt. This shirt was a cool Goonies T Shirt. The Goonies is an old school movie. I’m not quite sure how this fits into the Guardians theme, so if you know feel free to comment below!

Next we have our collectible Rocket and Groot figure. I love this figure and it’s my favorite item in the crate this month. Of course the figure is in relation to the new movie release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I should make it a point to watch the first movie and the new one hahahaha.

Next we have a Star Wars Coloring book with colored pencils and a sharpener. Not bad, I might find some time to color in it. The outside of the coloring book looks stunning so it’s a great collectible for me to have (I love C3P0 🙂 ).

We have some Destiny patches. I was actually awarded 2 sets of 3 patches. I’m not quite sure if that was intentional or not. I’m not a Destiny fan at all, not even in the slightest but the patches are pretty cool. I think I will put them on my bag.

Lastly we received an Avatar pin. I like Avatar so I’ll definitely keep this pin for my collection.

Of course, there’s the product booklet telling you with items are inside. There’s also a puzzle book that I will complete in my spare time.

This box is the last in my 3 month subscription and honestly I wasn’t that impressed with the items. Because of my lack of interest, I’m not going to renew the original Lootcrate subscription, however, I’m very interested in the LootGaming crates.I have a code for trying that crate so I’m going to do a 3 month subscription.

Thank you for viewing my lootcrate unboxing post. Do you have any subscription services? Which items did you like in this month’s crate? Let’s talk Lootcrate!

30 Day Challenge Video Game edition: Day 7!

Happy Wednesday Novas! Thank you for stopping by on our 30 day blogging challenge journey! I’m switching up today’s post just a tad, so let’s see what the topic is!
Couples! The twist that I’m bringing to today’s post will be to blog about my favorite video game “Duos” instead of couples. There’s been historic duos that we all know and love. The best duos to me in video games are the ones that compliment each other well. You know the duos that work so well in tandem that any task can be completed.  Those duos! I’m going to skip common duos like Sonic and Tails or Mario and Luigi because we know they’re awesome!

Day 7 – Favorite game couple

My first duo that I love is Banjo and Kazooie from well Banjo and Kazooie! Playing Banjo and Kazooie and Banjo To lie on Nintendo 64 was awesome growing up. I was able to beat all of the levels myself and I love the combination or Banjo’ s strength matches with Kazooie’ s agility and flight.

Cole Train and Baird! There’s no secret on my blog that I’m a hugeeee Gears of War fan. From the GOW franchises story mode a great friendship has developed between Cole and Baird. Baird is the intelligent weapons expert while Cole Train is the Brawn. He runs straight into every battle like “Leeroyyyyyy Jenkinsssss.” Cole was a pro football player before E Day so his speed, strength and agility is unmatched. I love the snarky comments each make within the franchise and their snippets when killing locusts. Cole and Baird are the unsung heroes of Gears of War to me. Vulgar language inbound on these clips. GOW has obscene language and violence.

Johnny Gat and Pierce from Saints Row are a pretty awesome duo. Gat is the leader, mentor and total awesome character of the Saints whole Pierce is the comic relief! I love doing missions with Pierce and Gat because driving in a car and listening to them bicker is the best. I’m between the missions you can listen to full conversation and interactions between both characters. For that fact Shaundi and Pierce are a great duo as well.

My last duo will be the annoying creeper and skeleton duo in Minecraft. The skeletons take all of your attention by shooting you with bows while the creepers sneak up behind you! I would rather fight any other combination of 2 mins than creepers and skellies.

What do you think of the duos I’ve highlighted today? Which duos are your favorites? Let’s talk video game duos!

Creative Writing Pt. 3 The Discovery

Happy Wednesday Novas! I know this post is longggg overdue, but here is part 3 of my 4 part creative writing series. You can check out parts 1 and 2 by clicking the respective links at the bottom.of the post. For all of my new Novas and to refresh your memory, this series allows me to create a story from pictures sent to me by a friend. We have agreed to create a story comprises of 4 pictures. Here’s today’s picture.

Kyrie blinks his eyes repeatedly searching for the voice that told him he could never leave. With his go pro in hand, Kyrie decides that now is the time to record the events in the house as he knows no one would ever believe his story. Kyrie starts by grabbing a candlestick holder. He reaches in his pocket searching for a lighter. “You don’t smoke. What are you doing?” He says to himself. Kyrie has a flash of a memory. He could feel the smoke filling his lungs. The heat feels all to real as his core is warmed by the ash. Kyrie exhales and the clouds of smoke starts to take form as a shape. A face of a girl. At that moment Kyrie feels the cold metal of the lighter and wakes from his trance. Drenched in sweat Kyrie reaches in his pocket and pulls out the lighter.

With the candle lit, our friend looks up and starts mapping out his path. He takes a step on the winding staircase. Then another. Kyrie swivels the candlestick from left to right revealing the cracks in the walls. “The walls look like marble. ” he acknowledges.  The pictures on the wall are taking form. First they’re there, then they’re not. The staircase is lit; the staircase is dark. Everything’s changing on him, but he manages to reach the top floor.

He starts hearing the same chime as before. It’s echoing and directing him towards the room on the right at the end of the hall. The paint in the hallway’s faded; then its not. The house is silent and now it’s not. The chime is still going but now he hears a radio,  laughter and can smell fresh bread baking. “Am I going crazy?” Kyrie finally makes it to the room. He sets the candlestick down on the floor and looks around. The chiming has stopped. Kyrie spots a newspaper in the corner and picks it up. The dust is messing with his allergies and he sneezes releasing excess dust in the air. The sneeze brings to light the a revelation. The horror he’d witness in the piano room and the reason why he is here. The blood is all on Kyrie’s hand and this time it’s not a hallucination!

What did you think of the 3rd part of the story? Are you starting to piece together what’s happening? What do you think will happen in the conclusion? Let’s talk creative writing!
