Solbot is an orb collecting indie game where the player will journey through space collecting energy orbs. What’s interesting about Solbot is that there is a very clear message to gamers ingrained in the story to raise awareness about the importance of energy.  screenshot_2018-09-10-21-34-111454103831.png Solbot is collecting these energy orbs to provide sustainable energy to the planets. It’s gaming with a message and the gamer can learn more about saving energy.

Sights & Sounds:

You’re traveling through space collecting orbs so the visuals will be a galactic feel. The solbot is racing through space avoiding asteroids and collecting the energy orbs. Each level increases in difficulty due to the orbs and asteroids increasing in speed. What I love about the game is the use of Power- Ups randomly throughout the game. As the level increases, you will be introduced to new power ups like the Magnet or Fire Blasters that can appear at any time. If you collect a power up during the level, a usage bar coupled with an upbeat tempo counts down the life of that power up before you are back to moving back and forth.

The music is an upbeat galactic track. The use of the music changes when you are close to losing the life on your power ups helps out and lot and creates a sense of urgency.

Controls:

Players will tap to the left and right of their mobile screens to move Solbot in that direction while trying to avoid asteroids and collect energy orbs.

Difficulty:

The game increases in difficulty the higher the level. Currently, there are 50 levels in total. After completing all 50 levels, the difficulty wasn’t as high as I woud expect, however, going for the high score proves as a challenge. I would like to see the game expand in levels.

Replayability:

It’s a quick game of reflexes and the levels change the number as well as color of orbs to keep the gamer invested. It’s a great quick game to play when waiting on a break or lunch. Your progress is saved and the levels pass by quickly so you can hop in and out of Solbot at your leisure without having to dedicate any significant amount of time.

This is the section in my reviews where I like to list my top reason to  Play or Skip Solbot Energy Rush

Play:

  • A fun galactic game of reflex and skill
  • Easy game to learn and play with the family
  • Compete to see who can reach the highest score

Skip:

  • If you are not a fan of timing games

You can watch the trailer below!

Final Thoughts:

I have really enjoyed playing Solbot and most of my play time was done on a lunch or break at work. Once I dialed in, I wanted to keep progressing in level and the time really sped by. I will say that I would have liked to see the levels progress a bit more in scenery like maybe having Solbot fly through an actual planet to collect orbs and incorporate that into the story. I liked the relevance with sustainable, clean energy and I love that the game looks to have make an impact.
