Happy Wednesday Superstars! Do you know what time is it? IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS! Actually, it does. It’s time for another Countdown to 2018 post and if you haven’t guessed by the title or my Wrestling puns, today we are counting down my favorite WWE PayPerView Events in 2017! My rankings list will be in descending order, starting with #5 on my list and revealing my favorite WWE Event of the year!
#5 Hell In A Cell-
Hell in a Cell was the Smackdown Live Exclusive event in 2017. The main event was not one that I wanted to see as it was Shane McMahon inserting himself into another match that would have helped another Superstar’s reputation. Shane took on Kevin Owens in a personal match. KO felt like Shane was stealing all of the credit and not providing opportunities for deserving Superstars and Shane felt disrespected by Ko’s verbal and physical attacks on his family. This fueled each competitor to an amazing clash inside and on top of Hell in a Cell. Click here for the recap post!
#4 No Mercy –
The Raw Exclusive event was an excellent night of television. The Main Event match was for the Universal Championship where Brock Lesner and Braun Strowman met 1 on 1 for the first time. At this point, the entire WWE Universe is behind Braun (and ready to see the Universal Title weekly) so we were all anticipating Brock FINALLY losing the title. No mercy was a very well put together show and impressed me sooo much that I added a “Highlights” section to the end of the post. The women had a great match, the Tag Team match was memorable and Icon John Cena versus Roman Reigns was amazing. To read why I loved No Mercy so much, click here!
#3 NXT War Games –
NXT has been known to put on some exciting events to rival the main shows of Raw and Smackdown. The weekend of Survivor Series, the NXT Takeover event was appropriately titled “Wargames” for the resurrected match created by the late Dusty Rhodes. This was my first NXT Event in a while as I have been busy and not able to watch NXT as much as I did last year. The matches were exciting and entertaining but the draw, the main event was the best match of the night. Wargames is a match consisting of 2 rings connected together and surrounded by a cage. 3 of the most dominant forces in NXT were all battling each other for supremacy. The Authors of Pain + Roderick Strong versus SaNity, versus Undisputed Authority clashed in an epic match. Read more about the event by clicking here!
#2 Survivor Series –
If you recall my rankings of my favorite WWE Events, Survivor Series was one of my top choices. I really enjoy the 5 on 5 matches and this year WWE took that formula up another level. While the event could have been sooo much better, it wasn’t bad and I really enjoyed it. Survivor Series is one of the cross brand shows where Smackdown and Raw Superstars compete, but this is the only event that the 2 brands face off. This year there was a counter for the matches won by which brand. A new twist was that the champions from each brand were going head to head. Something that really made the event was the Shield reuniting for real on Pay Per View and demolishing the New Day. I was pleased all around. Check out the recap of Survivor Series here!
#1 Wrestlemania 33 –
My number 1 event has to be from Wrestlemania week when the festivities were brought to my home town of Orlando, Florida! This was the most amazing weekend and I couldn’t have asked for a better showing, not to mention I met my husband, Seth Rollins! The iconic Undertaker retired, my husband slayed the king of kings Triple H, The Hard Boyz returned in an epic tag team ladder match and more. This was an incredible night of wrestling and I was able to experience it all, here in Orlando. The night was filled with so many amazing matches, click here to review the night!
Thank you for providing your predictions and insights on the WWE matches and events with us all year! Next year the WWE posts will continue (with a few tweaks) with our previews & predictions post the Saturday (or day) before the event and on nights where I was super impressed I will provide Raw, Smackdown or NXT recap posts. The year is already looking promising as the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match was announced at the end of Raw last week! Goodbye 2017 and hello 2018!
