I’m Back and Upcoming Posts!

Happy Saturday Gamers and Friends and Welcome Back to GamersUnitedGG! Well, it has been a while since I have blogged or uploaded any video game posts. Life has just been busy, but I’m finally balanced enough to get back to blogging a few times a week ( by a few I mean probably 2 times a week for now). This is going to be a wrap up on what’s been keeping me so busy lately and an intro into the new format and upcoming posts I have planned.

Life: So I started dropping off blogging last year around November when NaNoWriMo hit because I was participating in the challenge. NaNoWriMo takes place every November and writers are encouraged to write a novel (50,000 words or more) in a month. A tall task, but I was more prepared this year than I was last year with a proper outline. The story was the continuation of the book I wrote last year (which I will publish this year).  The Destiny Series follows fictitious rulers in 16th Century Europe and the inaugural book A Diary of Destiny takes place between the sacred pages of a nobleman’s bastard grandson, appointed squire to the King of Tamlonia. Gabriel recounts the events taking place as the King’s Daughter, Princess Ariana has become of age to marry. I’ve had a great time writing this series and look to continue it with book 3.

Work: Work has been busy lately so I’m picking up overtime to save up for my trip in April. Along with my normal job assisting Travel Agents, I’ve started selling Scentsy on the side as well. Scentsy is wax melts, warmers and different product fragrances. This is my 3rd month and it’s a really fun way to make that extra money. I always have my Scentsy Kit with me with testers, catalogs and my beautiful Vega the Unicorn Scentsy Buddy that smells amazing. Never heard of Scentsy, ask me questions!    www.WhiffablesByLuna.com

Upcoming Posts:

  • I am participating in the Tracking Shells collaboration over on Normal Happenings so my post about my fondest Mario Kart memories will be released soon.
  • I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books (for the 1st time) and I have a post or 2 I want to write. The first will be: Which Hogwarts House Should They Really Be In?  I’m really excited about this post, should be completed next week
  • Even though I haven’t been blogging, I have been playing video games way more than last year. I have my first impressions of Lego Harry Potter, I still have a Red Dead Redemption 2 post and new content with the Nintendo Switch.
  • Bookclub: My co-workers and I have started a bookclub in January and I plan to write about the 3 books we have already read.
  • Question of the Month: Kim and Later Levels hosts the gaming questions of the month. I haven’t participated in a few months but I plan on catching up and answering each question since January (because they seem to be connected). I encourage you to also join in on the fun and meet new bloggers by visiting http://www.LaterLevels.com
  • Captain Marvel Movie Review
  • Game of Thrones Countdown

Some exciting posts coming up soon and I’m happy to have the time to balance blogging and life again. What have you been up to? Playing any new games? Watching any new shows? Let’s talk!

Community Game of The Year Update!

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays all! The end of the year is quickly approaching and between the Holiday Shopping and mindless hours in new video games, I am unable to properly oversee or promote the Community Game of the Year event. So we are switching things up! If you would like to nominate a game you can do so by replying to this post or you can still write your post on why you are nominating the game as your personal Game of the Year!

You can read the rules for posting your blog by clicking here!

I will compose a post on January 1st tallying the results and announcing the game that was voted the Community’s Game of the Year!

Game Guide:

  • Nominate a video game that you have played this year (does not need to be released this year) in the comments or with a blog post.
  • There will be a Twitter Poll going up on December 27th with current nominees. You can vote for your favorites here as well.
  • Nominate a game by December 31st!

Lightning Ellen has entered her Game of the Year in a countdown format, see what she has been playing and their ranks by clicking here!

Charming & Open: Board Games!

Power up Players for today’s collaboration with Ian from Adventure Rules! The Charming and Open event is where Ian accepts questions from the community and attempts to answer them in a single post. He has recently started including the community in these questions and here we are!

What are the questions?

We have decided to talk about board games for this post.I have asked Ian:“In a tabletop RPG, which character do you like playing the most (type and favorite character)?”

You can read my question for Ian by clicking here!

My challenge is to answer:

What parts of playing tabletop are you best at? Where can you improve?

This is a pretty interesting question. As I am fairly new to tabletop gaming, I asked the help of my gaming buddies for this question. Jaysen told me that I excel at picking up the rules quickly and that he really likes that I am open minded about the type of games we are playing. A few times a month we get together for a game night and select a game from their massive collection that only seems to continue growing in size. My bucket list has become to play every board game that they own.

So I’ve started thinking more in depth about the type of role that I normally play. We played a co-op dungeon game called Gloomhaven and I was immediately drawn to the mage character for several reasons. I’m a creature of habit so choosing the female or the purple tokens are a given, just as much as choosing Yoshi or Daisy in a Mario game is for me. The mage was a female purple caster so I was immediately drawn to her.

20181004_2255321164939343.jpg
It looks more complicated than it is lol

Mages are great characters to use when you want to deal out a ton of damage from a rather safe position (normally behind your teammates lol). Gloomhaven was my first experience with a dungeon diving game and I was super happy to play it cooperatively with my team. My co-worker and his husband have game nights where I am a frequent guest. What I love is that they have a ton of games to play and each with more intricacies than then the previous game.

Root is a board game that I’ve recently played with my friends during our weekly game night. In Root, characters battle for control of the land using the resources of their kind. What I have found fascinating about Root is that every faction has different strengths and ways that they can win the game. I played as the Woodland Alliance where my main objective was to spread sympathy to rally supporters for my cause. Once I was able to build sympathy on a designated clearing, I could take control by moving my soldiers into that space.

root2

The more areas of the forest that your character controls, the more options you have when attacking or initiating an action.

Root1
My Secret Cards!

Root is my example on a way that I know I can improve my board gaming experience. I came in 2nd in Root having played a great game where I was seemingly last until the final few rounds where my plan started coming together. I am the type of player that loves the flashy plays and this tendency pushes me to play “The Long Con” game. A long con is basically looking like I’m always a step behind because I am playing for the huge playoff at the end of the game. Long Cons are super fun to play when they pay off and you see the reaction of the other players in the room ( which happened the 2nd to the last round where I lept into first place).

root3
I’m the green!

All was looking good for me except for 1 fatal flaw… my long con plan to release a large scale attack and score points was thwarted by my miscalculation. When I pulled the move I added my points incorrectly placing me 1 space from winning. During that same round after my turn, my friend Carl who played Marquis de Cat was just 3 spaces from the end and casually walked past me to score his final points and win.

root

Root isn’t the only board game where I failed at the long con, falling just shy of the victory. Because this strategy requires you to think several moves ahead, one mistake and you can find yourself in 2nd place or worse, still in last waiting to make your final move. I believe I can improve on the timing and farming needed for long cons to really play a well rounded game.

My game nights with my co-worker has really opened my mind in the possibilities of playing board games and playing outside of my comfort zone. I am eager to learn and willing to try any and all games to see if I enjoy them or not. Have you played any board games recently? What are your go to roles and where do you think you can improve? Let’s talk board games!

Community Game of the Year Challenge!

Power Up Players for a community collaboration! God of War took home 2018’s Game of the Year and it got me thinking about the games that I’ve played this year. 2018 has been a great year in gaming for me personally, from the long awaited release of Red Dead Redemption 2, a nostalgic Super Mario Party, to the first Call of Duty game that I’ve wanted to play in years. The end of the year is quickly approaching and I want to know what is the Community’s Game of The Year!

yay

Normally, I would ask what is your favorite game that has released this year, but since many of us gamers are not able to play ALL of the new games that we would like, I’ve decided to open this up to ANY video game that you have played this year. Your blog post can be as creative as you like while giving praise to the video game that is your personal Game of The Year.

How to Participate:

To Participate, write a post on a video game that you have played this year ( does not need to have been released this year) on why you nominate this game as your personal Game of the Year. Link back to this post so that I can read and tally everyone’s votes.

Your entry should be posted by December 29th so that I can tally the votes and compose the ending results.

On December 31st, I will release the Community’s Game of the Year post highlighting everyone’s post and vote and revealing which games the community voted for!

Have a great December and I look forward to reading the video game that you pick as your Game of the Year!

Gamers House Winner!

**Cue The Host**

Welcome back audience to the Gamers House Reality Show! Over the first season of this Community Event we have watched contestants get casted, enter the house and compete to be among the final 4. You have voted and sent Lightning, Spyro, Zelda and Peppy Hare into the finals.

During the challenge this week our contestants were tasked with completing a 5k Race. During this race they answered trivia questions, slayed waves and waves of the flood and traversed an Olympic Sized swimming pool. The first player to cross the finish line was Spyro and the winner with the fastest time (due to time deductions) was Lightning. Then we sent everything to Twitter for you to decide who the winner should be.

Before we get to the results, we have brought back some fan favorites to talk about the 4 finalists.  Please welcome back Bowser, Nemesis, Turok, Aloy and Kratos!

Kratos let’s start with you! First of all, congratulations on God of War being named 2018’s Game of the Year!

Kratos 1

Kratos: Was there any doubt that my game would be Game of the Year?

Luna: Of course not. Please, give us your thoughts on the final 4 contestants.

Kratos: Spyro is a great performer but I can’t see how he made the finals with his social game. Zelda is a beautiful Princess but to see her over Princess Peach is a joke. She probably signed a deal to guarantee her spot in the finale due to Hyrule Castle being the location.

Luna: Ok then… Well we also would like your help in picking a winner. The Twitter poll ended in a tie so out of Lightning and Zelda, who do you want to win Gamers House?

Kratos: Seeing as I would have only expected Lightning to be in the finale, I would have to give her the edge.

Luna: Thank you for your time Kratos. Please take your seat, we will have refreshments later. Bowser, it’s your turn! Tell us what you think about the final 4.

bowser

Bowser: Gwahahaha… Spyro has made it! My little buddy will win this season and prove that villains can have it all!

Luna: Um… Spyro isn’t in contention to win. We brought you all in to break the tie that the Twitter poll set. You can only vote for Lightning or Zelda.

Bowser: Foiled again! Lightning is strong and has always been nice to me, but Zelda is a beautiful Princess. My pick to win it all is Lightning!

Luna: Right! Thank you for your vote Bowser, you can return to your seat.

Some time later…..

After a few minutes of deliberations, we tallied the votes from the eliminated competitors. We have a winner!

Grand Finale:

Gamers House Finale Episode!

Happy Monday players! We have geared up through 8 weeks of intense video game characters schemes and this week is the finale… We will crown a video game champion for season 1 or Gamers House. Lets see how we got here. Last week the final 6 competed in a challenge where no one was immune and you the community voted to send 4 champions into the finale. This week your votes will crown the video game champion with a poll that lasts 4 days! The last challenge is an obstacle course. The contestants will battle swimming, trivia and a 5k race to the end to show you why they would be the best champion. Lets send things down to Luna and Lakitu for one last pregame challenge update!

Luna: Omg professor the finalist are surprising to mw. I had my money on Bowser at the beginning of the season but both him and peach got knocked out 2 weeks ago. After the vote last week the finalists are:

Lightning from Final Fantasy, Spyro from Spyro the Dragon, Zelda from the Legend of Zelda and in a surprising twist Peppy Hare from Starfox!

These 4 have been tremendous competitors and now they fight for the crown in this week’s challenge. There’s no night before meeting so let’s just jump into the action.

Challenge Day:

**Cue The Host**

Good morning Players! This is what you’ve all been working up towards; surviving until you have reached the finale. Now you will test your skills and race to the finish line. Keep in mind that there are no longer any immunities for winning, but winning will state your case to the audience that will have 4 days to vote for the winner. This challenge will be a race through the world of Halo while being chased by the Flood, contestants will need to swim across an olympic sized pool and answer trivia questions along the way. Let’s send it down to Luna and Lakitu to get things started.

Luna: Alright contestants, you’ve heard the rules. Here are some Plasma Rifles to assist you in your 5K. First up will be a round of Trivia.

Who was the first Player eliminated on this season of Gamers House?

The contestants rack their brains and Jot down the answer.

Peppy: Jensen

Lightning: Orchid

Zelda: Diddy

Spyro: Diddy

The correct answer is… Orchid!

Orchid

Um Peppy, you are Jensen were partners 2 weeks ago. Why would you write down his name?

Peppy: Never Give Up. Trust Your Instincts!

Luna: Yeah well your instincts were wrong there pal. Lightning for answering correctly you will have a 2 minute advantage. 2 Minutes will be subtracted from your time at the end. Each correctly answered question will have time subtracted from your finish time. Players ready? Set … Go!

And they’re off, Spyro taking flight and the early lead followed by Lightning, Zelda and Peppy who has dropped his glasses. Peppy better get a move on, the Flood will be invading soon. Lightning is quick and when the first round of Flood enemies appear, she jumps off a giant rock, turns and shoots 3 in the face exploding their contents onto a far behind peppy.

Spyro dodges each obstacle with precision and uses both his Plasma Rifle and Fireballs to shoot and clear a path to the next Trivia Question. Zelda is quickly behind gliding with the sparks behind her and Peppy… Well Peppy has found a Ghost and has started driving towards the next question.

Trivia #2: Which character was able to avoid elimination by not being listed in the bottom 4?

Spyro: Snake

Lightning: Snake

Zelda: Snake

Peppy: Bowser

Correct! 3 of you will have time dedicated while Peppy, has missed again. Peppy do you not remember how the house was in uproar when Snake hacked the results and removed his name from the elimination ballot?

Peppy: Slippy’s not such a screw up after all!

Luna: Yea… righttttt

The contestants have reached the swimming pool and starts making their way across the water. Spyro’s lead has diminished as Zelda and Lightning are able to surpass him. But he is still way ahead of Peppy who has just finished the trivia number 2. We are about halfway through the course.

Zelda is the first to finish and performs a quick wardrobe change with her powers.

Trivia 3: What was Nemesis favorite phrase?

Zelda: He didn’t talk much… did he?

Lightning: Stars

Spyro: Stars

Peppy: Sorry guys.. I’ve got to sit this one out.

Lightning and Spyro you are correct. We are heading into the final stretch and Spyro and Lightning are neck and neck rounding the final turn. Zelda is close behind and Peppy is still trying to swim across the pool. Lakitu get into position for a photo finish…

lakitu

The winner to cross the finish line is… SPYRO! But wait, now we factor in the trivia questions time. Spyro had 2 correct answers while Lightning had 3. So based off of time, the winner of the final challenge is… Lightning!

Congratulations! Now we will send the competition to Twitter. Audience, vote for the character that you want to win the Video Game Reality House… Season 1!

Umm.. Has anyone seen Peppy?

Peppy: I saw my life flash before my eyes!

Luna: Us too Peppy, us too.

Gamers House Week 7 Elimination!

Happy Thursday Players! This week the competitors competed in a head to head dodgeball match. The results ended with Team Red Bowser, Peach, Spyro and Solid Snake being up for elimination. You can review the episode here! Since this week we need to narrow down to 4 finalists, we put the vote to Twitter to eliminate 2 of the Players.

The competitor saved was Solid Snake with the most votes!

snake
You can come out, you’ve won!

Then we ran into a problem. Both Peach and Spyro tied. So Luna went into recon mode and asked co-workers who they would choose. The character with the most votes and the last person saved from elimination was… Spyro!

spyro-the-dragon

Sadly the game is over for Bowser and Peach who surprisingly is leaving together (we know you guys are secretly married).

Next the Twitter poll today will eliminate 1 competitor and the one tomorrow will eliminate the last competitor. Your votes will send 4 finalists into the final week of Gamers House!

Gamers House Week 7: Dodgeball!

Happy Monday and welcome to the semi-finals of Gamers House Season 1! On Friday the game was over for Marcus Fenix and Sonya Blade, who were voted out by the Players. Bowser and Spyro were safe for elimination and this week, the 2 will get to select the teams for Dodgeball! We are down to 8 Players so there will be 2 teams of 4, where the losing team will be up for elimination and 2 Players will be eliminated. This elimination will take place on Wednesday evening. From there the final 4 will be selected via the Twitter Vote. The 2 Contestants with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated on a special Saturday Elimination post. Let’s get to Dodgeball!

Challenge Day:

**Cue The Host**

prof oak

Welcome Players to the second to the last challenge to find out who will be crown the Best Video Game Character! Today’s challenge is a good old fashion game of dodgeball where Players will launch a ball at the opposing team. If a Player is hit by the ball, they are out for that round, if a player catches a thrown ball, the Player that threw the ball is out. This will be a best of 3 so the team to win 2 rounds will be safe from this first elimination. Bowser, Spyro what are the teams?

Red Team Blue Team
Bowser Lightning
Spyro Peppy
Peach Jensen
Snake Zelda

The teams will take a moment to strategize and we will send it down to our news crew Luna and Lakitu!

Luna: Thank you Professor. This is coming down to the wire as the contestants have clearly drawn the line in the sand for the Players that are teaming up. I have to say that I would give the edge to the Blue Team. Lightning with her movement, Jensen with his abilities and Peppy… well Peppy may be the weak link here. On the other side we have a large mass Bowser who may be an early target. I can see Spyro and Snake excelling in this challenge. Lakitu has provided us with ball cams to see the action straight on. Looks like everyone is ready..

3-Mario-Sports-Mix
Peach has the advantage!

Round 1:

The Blue team starts with concerted efforts to get Bowser out. After 3 balls are thrown his way Bowser is the first out. He doesn’t sit on the bench alone as Peppy was also hit by Spyro who is avoiding the balls with quick flight maneuvers. Lightning takes out snake with a fast throw an dJensen silences Peach. That leaves Spyro for the Red team and Lightning, Jensen and Zelda for the blue. It was a hard fought effort but Spyro finally falls giving Blue Team the first win.

Round 2:

In round 2 the Red team comes out blazing with a game plan and targets Lightning straight off the back. Lightning put up a great fight hitting the balls with the ball in her hand and dodging with elegance and grace. Snake threw a curveball and Lightning was out. During the commotion Peppy was able to strike Spyro out. Peach struck out zelda and Jensen caught the ball the Bowser threw leaving Peach vs Jensen and Peppy. Peach avoided the attacks and hit Peppy in the nose. The winner of round 2 is… Jensen!

That’s it, 2 wins to the Blue Team which means that the Red Team have lost and are now up for elimination.

That was a great match! Tune in to Twitter this afternoon to vote to save 2 Players. The other 2 will be eliminated from the competition. The Twitter poll will be up until Wednesday Morning! Tune in Wednesday evening for the elimination post!

Gamers House Week 6 Elimination!

Happy Friday Players! The video game reality house is coming to a close with one week remaining and we have ran into another production error. There were supposed to be 2 eliminations this week narrowing our Players down to the top 4. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen so we are only able to eliminate one team today. This is pushing the finale episode back to Monday November 12th. Today we will eliminate one team and have an impromptu episode on Monday. Next week’s elimination will bring us to the top 4 and the finale episode where you will vote for the winner of Gamers House will launch. Now let’s see who was saved this week!

**Cue The Host**

prof oak

After the Mario Kart themed event our winners were surprisingly Jensen and Peppy Hare! This placed 4 teams in danger of being eliminated. Those teams are:

  1. Peach & Snake
  2. Lightning & Zelda
  3. Bowser & Spyro
  4. Marcus & Sonya

The Twitter instant vote saved our mischievous troublemakers Bowser and Spyro! title

This leaves the other 3 teams in Jeopardy. This morning the house guests voted to eliminate one of the remaining teams. Before we get to the results, let’s check in with our field team Luna and Lakitu to see what happened this week.

Luna: Thanks Professor! Lakitu and I have been working tirelessly to find out what the Players are up to inside of the house. We were able to discover a few plots. Lakitu… Roll the tape!

Wednesday, 1:00pm.. Hyrule Gardens

Peach: I trust you were not followed

Snake : *Rustles in the bushes*

Peach: Alright give up the bush act Snake, we are far away from any prying ears.

Snake: Right. So I have stolen the Twitter results. The Team that is going to be saved is Bowser and Spyro

Peach: What? How many votes did we receive? Was it close?

Snake: You don’t want to know

Peach: Ughh.. Well it could be worse. At least Zelda is up for elimination.

Snake: Yea. This week we will vote off a team. Everyone casts a ballot and the team with the most votes is eliminated.

Peach: I see. Time to get to work and get Zelda eliminated.

***

Lightning: You know that crazy Princess is gunning for you right?

Zelda: Yes, I’m aware

Lightning: So aren’t you going to do anything about it?

Zelda: Oh, concerned for my well being Lightning?

Lightning: Not particularly but since I am tethered to you at the moment I would prefer you care about being eliminated.

Zelda: In any case, she will not be able to eliminate us. At least not this week

Lightning: Oh why is that?

Zelda: I don’t know. It’s a feeling, an aura in the air.

Lightning: Right. Well while you are meditating and talking to the faeries, I will go and make sure that we are not eliminated.

Lightning: Hey Bowser, remember me?

Bowser: Bwahaha of course. What do you want Lightning?

Lightning: If this entire thing comes down to a vote, which team are you voting for?

Bowser: Marcus Fenix

Lightning: Ah, you have a problem with him do you?

Bowser: He thinks he is tougher than me and smarter

Lightning: Well I don’t know about the tougher part but I’m with you

Bowser: Huh?

Lightning: You have my vote to get out Marcus. I never really liked the guy anyhow

Bowser: Do you like anyone Lightning?

Lightning: I suppose I’m the same as you. Everyone annoys me at some point, some less than others *patting the giant turtles shell*

Bowser: Bwahaha Marcus will never see it coming

Lightning: One more thing. Is that dragon with us?

Bowser: Leave it to me. We will have the votes. Do you have that witch wrangled in?

Lightning: Leave her to me. This will be quite the elimination

Both: Bwahahahaha

That was some great footage. It looks like everyone has an agenda. Let’s see which plan will take precedence and send a team home. Cue the results!

Jensen: Marcus & Sonya

Peppy : Bowser & Spyro

Luna: Peppy… you can’t vote for them, they are safe!

Peppy: I’m not too crazy about those guys

Luna: That’s fine Peppy but you still can’t vote for them

Peppy: Fox, take it easy! I’m sure he’s learned his lesson.

Peppy: Marcus & Sonya

Bowser:Marcus & Sonya

Spyro: Marcus & Sonya

Peach: Lightning & Zelda

Snake: Lightning & Zelda

Marcus: Lightning & Zelda

Sonya: Lightning & Zelda

Lightning: Marcus & Sonya

Zelda: Marcus & Sonya

There you have it. The team leaving Gamers House is Marcus Fenix and Sonya Blade!

Thank you for playing! The game is down to 8 Players! Next week 4 characters will be eliminated and we will have out top 4 for the finale! Make sure to tune in on Monday morning for the next episode of Gamers House!
